Absolute chaos!

From tomorrow a visa centre for Ukrainian refugees will be set up in Lille. It will be a ‘pop-up’. It will not offer appointments or walk-in access for those seeking to come to UK. The most vulnerable cases in Calais will be taken there for biometrics checks. The Home Office will NOT publicise its location and capacity will be small.
Anyone turning up at Calais will be told to go to Paris or Brussels to fill out the correct forms - if you can get an appointment
In Brussels, Ukrainians seeking UK visas will find the embassy has outsourced this work to a private company (a mate of a Tory MP??) and it closes at 3pm. First find it - it is at the back of the station!
Families with UK visa biometrics checks done in Rzeszów (Poland) are being told to travel 200 miles to Warsaw to collect their visas stamp for their passport.
Meanwhile Patel is contacting the Irish to oppose their refugee policy with the abject fear that some of those Ukranian refugees might make it to UK.
All this being allegedly to stop Russian terrorists entering UK. Don’t worry - such terrorists don’t need visas - they come in as tourists and do their worse - evidence Salisbury poisoning.
In the words of James O’Brien (LBC): you - the UK - voted for this and this government intends to make it as difficult as possible for ANY refugees to enter UK!

I think she is useless at her job I think lots of the comments about her parents are mired in racism to be honest.

Iam64 Wed 09-Mar-22 20:31:08

I don’t care that Patel’s parents were immigrants. I care that she’s an incompetent, not very bright individual, promoted beyond her abilities by an incompetent PM. Add to that her lack if compassion and rude, bullying approach. Oh yes and she’s dishonest.

I really do find it offensive when posters suggest people born here are ‘sent back’.

AuntieEleanorsCat Wed 09-Mar-22 20:10:51

I’m talking about today. A woman whose own family were immigrants allowing the callous treatment of refugees coming from a war zone. Disgraceful.

AuntieEleanorsCat Wed 09-Mar-22 20:09:22

Patel’s father … UKIP. I’m not saying her entire family but the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

M0nica Wed 09-Mar-22 19:54:33

Well, why waste my time on Maizie when AuntElinorsCat is around.

AEC How do you know her whole family are hypocrites? And why Uganda? If you go back far enough there are several other coutries you could send her to. It is the same with Boris Johnson? His origins reach back to 3 or 4, or possibly more countries. What about those with impeccable British pedigrees going back to pre-history?

I see nothing even remotely racist in any of MaizieD's posts.

MaizieD Wed 09-Mar-22 19:33:41

M0nica

MaizieD what a shockingly racist taunt your last two paras are.

Why?

It has nothing to do with race. Some people seem totally unable to emphasise if they haven't experienced something themselves. We see it pretty often on this forum...

And 'British' encompasses a huge range of of 'races'.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 09-Mar-22 19:31:30

Remember when we were told by the Brexit loons that we will get rid of all bureaucracy?

The Home Office and it’s minister is not fit for purpose.

MaizieD Wed 09-Mar-22 19:30:43

Idi Amin wasn't even President when they left, CvD66. He became president in, I think 1971.

Granted that there had been 'tensions' before that, but Patel's parents would have made an orderly exit. No 'fleeing'.

annodomini There are claims Patel's parents were NOT refugees but who would leave the lovely, propersous life in sunny Uganda unless you perceived the threat of Idi Amin. Sad to also see her Dad stood as a UKIP candidate!?!

MaizieD Wed 09-Mar-22 19:22:50

In the 1970s didn't we welcome with open arms and hearts Asian refugees from Uganda? And, among those refugees wasn't there a certain couple by the name of Patel who later produced a daughter, named Pritti?
Talk about closing the door after you've made your entry.

I have to keep repeating this, don't I?

Patel's parents were NOT among those Asians thrown out by Amin in 1972.

They came to the UK in the 1960s. Patel wasn't born until 1972. She has no experience whatsoever of being a refugee and neither did her parents. Which could explain her total lack of empathy...

Mind you, most of the British seem to be able to emphasise...

Lucca

And I say Tory not as a dig, in my book this is no time for political argy bargy, I just mean Conservative voting GNs

Lucca I voted Conservative, I have already posted on this thread that I am ashamed of the way this Government is performing regarding all refugees.

M0nica Wed 09-Mar-22 19:16:23

Like others , it makes me ashamed to be British. Making fefugees shuttle back and forth between Calais Paris and Brussels. These are refugees. Many will be short of money or unable to access funds in Ukrainian banks.

Priti Patel is a shame and embarrassment. Who runs the Home office, her or her civil servants? She should just tell her minions to get offices running eficiently and smoothly within two days, no shuttling, no queueing for hours in the bitter cold, hot drinks and snacks while they wait and a decision within 24 hours. That or the sack

Casdon Wed 09-Mar-22 19:12:39

That won’t apply with this scheme as I understand it Pantglas2, the Ukrainians are only allowed in to stay with an immediate family member. I haven’t seen anything about them being housed in separate accommodation, or being allowed to enter the UK if sponsored by a non family member. I might have missed that though, I don’t know if anybody else knows more?

mokryna Wed 09-Mar-22 19:03:33

Especially if you think back to a few months ago when those that had money, would have been given a golden visa.

Pantglas2 Wed 09-Mar-22 19:03:10

Talk is cheap Casdon - whether it’s in London or Cardiff!

Let’s see some efficiency from both administrations on this batch of refugees and not be hearing that they’re still in hotels in a few years time!

Lucca Wed 09-Mar-22 19:02:06

Where are the Tory GNs ? I’d honestly be interested to hear if they agree with government’s stance on this.

Poland has opened their border to over a million refugees. It is really shaming that the government can't get in place a system of emergency visas to help people who have gone through so much. The news tonight showed a 92 year old queueing with her 70 year old daughter to try to get an appointment for a visa, she has a son in the UK. Heaven knows what they have been through to get there only to be met by a barrage of red tape. Where is the humanity??

dragonfly46 Wed 09-Mar-22 18:52:46

I am ashamed that the British people voted this evil government in and also voted for Brexit which is causing problems getting donated goods to the Ukraine.
We need to take responsibility even if you personally did not vote for the above!

GagaJo Wed 09-Mar-22 18:49:19

HOW can they put feathering their friends nests over the literal lives of people fleeing war?

But then, they didn't care about dying British people at peak covid, so...

Casdon Wed 09-Mar-22 18:42:34

And yet Pantglas2 the almost unthinkable has happened today, Andrew RT Davies has broken ranks with the Government and supported the Welsh Government’s approach to Ukrainian refugees. He virtually never criticises Boris and Co.. I nearly choked on my dinner.
