Nicola ... again. Shut up woman! Are you for real?

Joe Biden won’t. Boris Johnson won’t. Ben Wallace won’t. Nor will, as far as we know, every other leader of a Nato member country. However, it is clear that Nicola Sturgeon just might.

Might do what, you ask? Consider backing a Nato no-fly zone over Ukraine, that’s what. Even if such an action risked a major escalation of the West’s dispute with a nuclear-tipped Russia.

The First Minister thinks that having warplanes, including British ones, taking on, and possibly shooting down, Vladimir Putin’s planes is worth “serious consideration”.

It’s a truly astonishing suggestion that was being described by enemies and one-time supporters alike as another piece of grandstanding by someone who appears to be desperately seeking a niche for herself on the international stage.

Standard responses to any criticism. Please choose one, or more if the discussion continues and you have really run out of valid responses.

You're jealous.

You're a bully.

You have no sense of humour.

You're woke.

Its not a real country anyway.

DaisyAnne I simply said what I thought. We live in a free speech nation thankfully. I don't often go on to political sites on here and just spoke what I thought.

Then it would be polite to explain why you thought it. No one can stop you from 'thinking' anything, nor would anyone want to in this country, thankfully.

However, you wrote your thoughts on an open forum; on a serious topic. You did not explain. If you do not explain, I think you must expect to be asked about it.

Did someone mention jealous?
I think Nicola might look nice in green. Maybe not, maybe a poster will link it to my meaning she supports Libya.

Which sea do you think the Baltic runs into the Pacific?
Is this a trick question?
Are you talking about the direct route (as the crow flies) or the long way round, or the scenic route as the satnav says?

I'm talking about the one that is shown on any atlas!!!!
I think the sat nav route might take you into some pack ice. The long way round via the Panama canal a couple of months and the only ports he has open at the moment are via the Baltic Sea, North Sea and the Atlantic.
Before you try to trip me on saying the Dardanelles,I know all the other names as well Bosphorus and even the Hellespont.
You still haven't answered the question are Russian fishing vessels still using Scottish ports?

The Baltic is technically a part of the Atlantic Ocean as is the North Sea so you are correct, I'm not arguing.

I said nothing about fishing vessels, I think that was another poster.

Thanks for that Callistimon 21, I apologise too. I was beginning to doubt my memory of years of study.

I think urmstongran must be getting weary of the company of all the other expat in Spain and has time on her hands. Try harder dear.

What a nasty sarcastic post, sounds like you are jealous.

I'm afraid I wouldn't be so kind to those who think Culture Politics is what should be keeping us entertained re Ukraine. I thought the post was very restrained.

Or maybe we might think the nasty Culture Politics some chose to post about supports no one but the Russians and does not take the war in Ukraine very seriously.

Oh c'mon DaisyAnn we had all this not taking the war in Ukraine seriously business the other day when someone flippantly mentioned Frank Gardener. There were pages of posters supporting the poster's comment as not in any way detracting from the atrocities of the war.

Josieann Fri 11-Mar-22 12:03:49

^ But allegations that she wore a red suit because somehow she supports Russia?^
And I repeat, it was not I who brought this implication up at 9.21 am.

Covid according to some is over ?????????????
Not according to the news concerning RCH.

Josieann Fri 11-Mar-22 12:08:12

Covid over????? Not according to a GP friend who is planning the next round of vaccinations in May for all over 50s I believe.

Casdon Fri 11-Mar-22 12:12:09

I wouldn’t worry about the stance some posters on here might take DaisyAnne. Some think it through and make reasoned posts for or against. For others, memories are short. When Boris says it’s the right thing to do it will be.

Omg is that woman trying to start world war 3 this is not our fight. We support them but we can’t get involved

Does it smart Josianne? Does it irk that I may have misinterpreted your comment about choosing to wear a red suit on the day NS was making comments about Russia? Well here are your options:

1) Tell us that you really meant it was reminiscent of the Welsh Dragon, that’s what you meant, obviously, even though nobody had made any comments about Welsh Dragons on this thread, and all these nasty people who misunderstood you have just got the wrong end of the stick and you are the victim in all this. Or,

2) say that you hadn’t even considered that implication but you can see how that would come about, and of course you don’t think Sturgeon was sending a message about Russia. It had nothing to do with Red Army, or Reds under the Bed, or the Red flag of the Soviet Union.

I see you’ve decided on option 1.

fairfraise Fri 11-Mar-22 12:52:11

Does it really matter about the red suit. Nicola Sturgeon is often in primary colours, red or blue and others. She can carry off those colours.

volver Fri 11-Mar-22 12:55:32

It matters that people can make throwaway comments without considering what they mean.

You do realise your uninformed opinion may not be correct, don't you? "That woman" will have far more information and people to advise than you do.

Why do you assume you know better, are better informed about war than Nicola Sturgeon. Why do you feel that your opinion is so superior to one based on information, facts and advice that you do not even need to explain why you hold this opinion? I would welcome an explaination. I know I don't know everything about this situation and would be happy to add to my knowledge if you would care to share yours.

Josieann Fri 11-Mar-22 12:58:12

Actually we are having a nice conversation about a candidate on the Apprentice thread wearing a red dress!
I'm half Welsh by the way, so red dragons are my thing!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 11-Mar-22 12:58:49

Am I alone in seeing the parallels with PM Blair/POTUS Bush waging an illegal war in Iraq on the premise that they had were producing WMD, and President Putin alleging Ukraine is manufacturing Chemical weapons?

All we’re trying to justify their wars and the massacre of innocent citizens.

volver Fri 11-Mar-22 13:00:23

Well that's nice. Not all of us read every thread.

The Lion Rampant is red too by the way. That would have been more believable.

Goodness when what’s been said on here is compared to what gets said about Westminster (where of course there are also plenty of caring and committed MP’s acting on behalf of their constituents too) it beggars belief! Can the SNP do no wrong? Oh wait ....

Perhaps it's worth pointing out,Urmstongran (although I doubt it) that as we are still a disUnited Kingdom, the Westminster government and Boris Johnston are still our government and our Prime Minister. We in the devolved administrations have our own governments and First Ministers as well, not instead.

I feel that I have the right to say what I like about my UK government and PM, as well as my Scottish government and FM. I would feel able to comment on the actions of Mark Drakeford, but not to be as rude about him as you feel able to be about Nicola Sturgeon. He is a leader in my country (UK) but not of my country (UK and Scotland).

I can assure you it is not over. It is rampant around here, including in this house.
