Reading this article about a Russian journalist’s protest I was so impressed by her bravery but I’m sure I wouldn’t possess that courage.

MerylStreep Tue 15-Mar-22 11:17:45

I admire the fact that she has apologised for perpetuating Putins propaganda over the years on her tv station.

Curlywhirly Tue 15-Mar-22 11:34:22

No, I am certainly not that brave - what an amazing woman. She would know for certain that there would be dreadful consequences for her action.
I just wish the IT hackers could somehow transmit footage on Russian TV of what is really happening. Surely despite the propaganda put out by the Russian PR machine, the truth will out when all those Russian soldiers come home in body bags (or don't return at all).

A very brave woman indeed, not sure I would have had that courage. Sadly its still only a minority of Russian people who see the truth of what is happening in Ukraine.

She has been released after 14 hours of questioning and fined but that is probably not the end of it.

Sparklefizz Wed 16-Mar-22 11:20:10

Bravo! I'm in awe of her for her bravery. Not sure I would have had the courage.

Davida1968 Wed 16-Mar-22 11:22:26

I'd like to think that I could be that brave, but I don't know how I'd be in reality....

Jane43 Wed 16-Mar-22 11:26:28

I was surprised to hear yesterday that she had appeared in court and was fined. I really hope that is true and that she is safe.

mokryna Wed 16-Mar-22 11:37:19

Jane43 We have to think nothing is true coming out from that country unless all her family have been allowed to travel outside Russia.

Yammy Wed 16-Mar-22 11:46:13

No, I might have thought what she did but would never have put my head above the parapet.
Let's hope the fine is the end of it but I doubt it somehow.

MerylStreep Wed 16-Mar-22 11:47:41

Putin is playing his evil cat and mouse games. She’s knows her days are numbered. Even if she were somehow able to leave the country he will get her.

Luckygirl3 Wed 16-Mar-22 11:50:34

I would not be as brave - I am filled with admiration.

She is a dead woman walking - he will "vanish" her in the fullness of time, quietly and behind the scenes when the spotlight is off her.

maddyone Wed 16-Mar-22 12:00:15

She’s a very brave woman, and no, I’m not that brave.

HannahLoisLuke Wed 16-Mar-22 12:02:43

Have I missed something? I heard she’d been fined the equivalent of £300 and released She said herself that it’s because she has children.
I’m sure that’s not the end of it though.

Luckygirl3 Wed 16-Mar-22 12:09:09

She has been fined - and Putin has made sure we all know that. He could not dispose of her while there is such a media spotlight on her. I feel sure the poor woman will meet with some sort of accident in the fullness of time. She has made him look an idiot - he will not tolerate that for long.

effalump Wed 16-Mar-22 12:09:28

My guess is that woman is desperate. At what point do you risk something like this, especially in a country that can make you 'disappear', like China.

sandelf Wed 16-Mar-22 12:09:37

I think it demonstrates the depth of her desperation and shame at what is going on and what she had been made complicit with.

Dylant1234 Wed 16-Mar-22 12:55:37

I’d love to be that brave but I know I wouldn’t be!

4allweknow Wed 16-Mar-22 14:55:35

Probably be jailed for a good number of years. I would guess hiven her job as tv programme/news program producer she has a wide view of the world and cannot accept what is going on in Ukraine. Understand one of her parents is Russian and one Ukranian. Think in her circumstances I would be very tempted to make a public stand.

crazygranny Wed 16-Mar-22 14:58:01

This war has revealed that there is so much courage and caring everywhere.

Dianehillbilly1957 Wed 16-Mar-22 15:02:32

I'm hoping the world doesn't forget about her and her bravery! I'm also hoping she'll be safe, be interesting to find out her fate!

grandtanteJE65 Wed 16-Mar-22 15:07:32

I hope I would be as brave in similar circumstances.

I hope and pray she and her children are now on their way out of Russia - as she was released with a fine yesterday, but it would not surprise me if she is arrested again or just disappears if she stays in Russia.

She had filmed a video before she went on the air so maybe she has now changed her appearance and got herself and the children out of Russia.

That is what I would have planned in her place.

crazyH Wed 16-Mar-22 15:09:33

Brave girl, but slightly foolish. Feel so sorry for her family

queenofsaanich69 Wed 16-Mar-22 15:31:09

Amazingly brave,we will never see or hear from that lady again,I couldn’t do that in Russia

volver Wed 16-Mar-22 15:41:00

Before we start writing her off, here she is last night.

Too many people watching the Ipcress File, I think...

Kim19 Wed 16-Mar-22 15:55:06

I really do fear for her (and her's) future. There's really no escape when Mr Putin is scorned. I SO hope I'm wrong.
