Words without action don't mean much.
So sad I’ve nearly finished last Jilly Cooper
Happy Birthday - 100 years on Earth
National treasures. Who would you choose?
They appear to be having a great time, far the troubles the rest of us are coping with. I am wondering what GB gets out of it apart from prior warning that once the Queen goes many of these islands will want to choose there own head of state. Sorry Will, I don't think it is going to be you.
Words without action don't mean much.
It does if you are a Daily Mail reader.
And I mean a Daily Mail reader, before anyone decides that's being discriminatory. It's the Daily Mail who are blaming her. It's as transparent as can be.
Well love her or hate her, Meghan clearly has nothing to do with this.
He didn't have a discussion with the Jamaican PM though, the Jamaican PM told them what he and his people think about being reigned over by some family a few thousand miles away.
It's not, as someone said above, the host nations being ill mannered for not being nice to the people they invited; they weren't invited. They just thought they'd turn up for a wee trip around their colonies to remind people that their family still have a claim to them and tell them all they are all doing very well.
I'm sure that previous tours by Royals have had to deal with demonstrations from locals. But they've never had to cancel engagements before; they've never had to stand there while a PM told them that they weren't really necessary any more, not on live TV, anyway.
The diving off a reef is a PR faux pas, it really is. Its being seen as two posh folk going for a nice swim and pointing at fish. Its not raising awareness. Its not publicising it. And the fact that the Cambridges and their advisors think this is the right way to raise consciousness of environmental issues shows how out of touch they are with the real world.
BTW, one "journalist" this morning is blaming Meghan for the Cambridge's tour not being successful. You gotta laugh, haven't you?
Prince William said in his speech last night slavery has left a stain on our nation The Prince of Wales said something similar on his last visit there. He had a discussion with the Jamaican PM regarding removing the Queen as Head of State during this year (the 60th Anniversary of gaining their independence, which is fitting)
The photos of the two of them diving in Belize had a point to make, the reef is the second biggest in the world, and publicising this and the conservation work being done is vital to the planet.
There are plenty of pictures/videos of them being warmly welcomed, but the U.K. press has obviously decided that it’s get a William and Catherine time (they must be bored with Harry and Meghan) and choose to push the few protesters.
Nothing has so far convinced me that the U.K. would be better off with an elected Head of State as opposed to the Monarchy.
I read this morning that the aim for independence and the damage of the legacy of slavery has been raised with William by politicians. He made a speech at last evenings dinner event, criticising slavery.
These royal tours are IMO outdated and rather embarrassing. Especially in the context of the legacy of the empire. If we maintain a monarchy, I’d like to see it hugely modernised

Well, volver, you are obviously superior, so just go on congratulating yourself for not being a monarchist.
Oh I missed Volver doing that ? Where did she congratulate herself on not being a monarchist?
It is interesting on this thread though to see some who clearly are pro RF/monarchy nonetheless expressing concern about/distaste for this kind of tour , nice to see a bit of flexibility of thought!

Poor show, Jamaica. It's like asking someone over for dinner and saying we don't really like you, please don't come back. 100% fine with them leaving - it’s their democratic choice after all, but their timing is off. What is it with people who lack manners this week?
Please tell me you’re not on about Nazanin .
Why on earth do they need to tour these countries? What’s the point? Just to bolster their own position?
^ We are extremely privileged to have a royal family to represent our nation abroad.^
Just your opinion Urmstongran*. Many disagree.
Do other royal families do tours like this around their former colonies? For example the Spanish royal family?
Look at the faces of the people in the background of some of those photos. They tell a different story to the one the RF PR machine are trying to portray.
It would appear then that a lot of you missed the pictures on the tv news showing enthusiastic crowds cheering them in Jamaica.
Yes there were a few protesters but from the piece I saw they were vastly outnumbered by those people smiling, cheering and eager to shake hands with them.
I loved Catherine’s beautiful, colourful sundress. Just perfect for the Caribbean.
I wonder if they had an opportunity to visit the famous Dunn’s River Falls? Somewhere tucked away I have pictures of us there when we visited Jamaica on a cruise.
I agree Iam, I used to be a monarchist but I’ve gradually found myself changing position, but given that we have got a monarchy (at the moment anyway) I’m finding myself cringing at this tour. I feel sorry for them, it’s so dated and out dated now. I’d absolutely hate to be Catherine being wheeled out like this.
Let’s wish them all the best. ??
The Queen has held the commonwealth dear but, this isn’t the 1940’s or 50’s. The Empire, colonialism, Black Lives Matter, the focus on the fact slave owners were compensated when slavery was abolished. The history of how slaves in the West Indies survived during and after slavery needs to be told. William and Kate appear to be continuing the royal tour tradition of embarrassing dancing and Kate changing into several outfits a day. Surely at this point in our history and, with the pandemic, war in Europe a less flimsy, rather patronising way of visiting countries that were Empire could be found

You seem nice.
Is this what monarchists are like? ?
Looking at the photos, the smiles look a little strained just now, I think they must be acutely aware that they're not really welcome.
It the people who have manners don't have manners week
shocking isn't it
when we have to listen to
the those that think they have manners manners week, every single week
when
they don't have manners
Well, volver, you are obviously superior, so just go on congratulating yourself for not being a monarchist.

Nobody will ever convince me that they really don't want to be doing this and would rather we weren't asking them to do it.
My job involved meeting people all day every day, wearing clothes I didn't particularly like and being interested in what people were telling me. Plus a whole lot of other stuff which was actually work, not just PR. And I never expected anybody to be pleased to see me and I didn't expect to live in a palace, or have a hairdresser travelling with me.
If you don't want to be a future King and Queen and go on luxurious visits to exotic places (and even non-exotic places), off you go the pair of you. We'll cope.
As some others have said, it’s unlikely to have been their decision. They’ll have been told to go. They seem to be doing a good job in the circumstances.

Glad to be of service volver
