Once again the government is showing that it knows the price of everything but the value of absolutely nothing.

Who, I wonder amongst their donors, have they promised the channel to?

volver Tue 05-Apr-22 17:23:08

Ach then, hardly worth the effort. Let's just hold on to it.

Boz Tue 05-Apr-22 17:23:25

Dorries is a Moron; part of a Moronic Government whose supporters think potholes more important than the Arts!!!

volver Doris is thicker than a thick thing on a thick day, isn't she? And it would appear that she is even less able to read her briefing notes than ABdePJ. I despair.

On the planet thick.

I suspect our esteemed Culture Secretary wouldn't even get this reference...

I can't wait for the May elections; I will vote anything rather than Johnson's Tory Party. If the results are bad, he will go and his sickly sycophants with him.

Who legally owns C4?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 05-Apr-22 17:55:44

Dont bother to answer, it is the government. I was clutching at straws wondering if it might be a trust or something

Witzend Tue 05-Apr-22 17:58:27

Gin

The only channel worth watching in this house. I suppose Saturday night Scandi dramas will be a thing of the past or on a subscription channel. I am becoming desperate, why does everything change? If it works it does not need fixing.

Aren’t Saturday night Scandi dramas on BBC4? They certainly used to be.

At a guess I imagine that this sale will have to be approved by both the HoC’s and Lords, let’s hope that it doesn’t get through.

GillT57 Tue 05-Apr-22 18:12:31

Let's hope this fails. A question for Urmonstongran and Kandinsky; if you don't watch C4, if it doesn't cost you a penny, why do you want to deny it to people who do enjoy it? I loathe the very idea of GB news, don't watch it but wouldn't dream of stopping you from watching it. This is called democracy

You so clearly don't have a clue about how a national economy works, Ug. They don't need to sell one thing to finance something else. It's not like a household or a business. ut I know I'm wasting my energy...

I'm finding it interesting that our right wingers think that the 'state broadcaster' should parrot the government propaganda. How very Putinesque...

Don't you know that the ability to hold the government to account is one of the basic freedoms of a democratic society.? It's a freedom that applies to every single media outlet.

This Russian backed Tory government is following the example of its oligarch donors. Steal what belongs to the people and line the profits of the billionaires.

Media companies are top targets. Channel 4 News gave us a balanced non partisan hour long daily news program, but committed the crime of criticising brexit, unlike the tame docile Brexit Broadcasting Corporation - and that cannot be tolerated.

Truth hurts and must not be allowed.

Luckylegs Tue 05-Apr-22 19:33:48

Of course, it’s ridiculous. Of course they must have a pal who wants to buy it. Of course, it should be left as it is. Why on earth does Nadine Dorris get to decide such a big decision on behalf of all of us? The question is what can we do about it? We are all outraged about Partygate, Boris in general, huge price rises for everything etc etc and we still haven’t got any answers or any reversal of decisions or help towards the bills so how can we get this changed?

varian Tue 05-Apr-22 20:46:52

Because we are governed by a party with a huge parliamentary majority gained by a minority of votes, we are virtually powerless to stop even the most outrageous acts.

Nadine Dorries could only be stopped by at least 40 Tory MPs rebelling. Good luck with that.

Nadine Dorries not understanding how Channel 4 operates. Just embarrassing.

Coastpath Tue 05-Apr-22 21:18:58

Sorry, just noticed this video has been posted before. (I seem to have skipped a page of comments).

Urmstongran Tue 05-Apr-22 21:48:15

I’m enjoying ‘The Simpler Life’ (living like the Amish) and its on Ch.4
?

GillT57 Tue 05-Apr-22 21:57:50

Maybe GB news could buy the rights Urm. Have a whip round or ask their Russian backers.

Urmstongran Tue 05-Apr-22 22:02:46

No ... I think the clue is in their title Gill57. ... GB NEWS ?

GillT57 Tue 05-Apr-22 22:07:27

Yeah right

Mamardoit Tue 05-Apr-22 22:33:01

Did channel 4 do Time Team? I used to watch that with my younger boys.

I have occasionally tuned in to watch Channel 4 news. To be honest it's not a channel I watch other than that. I'm finding I really am very selective now. Particularly with news output.

Grantanow Tue 05-Apr-22 23:08:57

Of course, Dorris was chosen by Johnson. Nothing to add....

Catterygirl Tue 05-Apr-22 23:21:38

Son just gave his notice to Channel 4 as have so many of his loyal hard working colleagues.

Looks like ITV are considering putting in an offer for it:

C4 make a profit and plough it into making lots of new programming using British production companies. So it’s good for our U.K. arts sector. Will a foreign (probably US) buyer do the same? Answer: no.
