Will Macron win?
Marine le Pen is surging forward in the polls.

Joseanne Mon 18-Apr-22 21:28:19

And as for Boris!!!
Mind you I've just bought a Jack Wolfskin fleece a bit like that in cream.

Joseanne Mon 18-Apr-22 21:22:01

Ew. So that's what someone meant!
That hairy chest looks photo shopped to me. Look at the bit overlapping his shirt near the buttons top left. Or else he dribbled his gravy on his shirt.

Coastpath Mon 18-Apr-22 21:17:00

We drew the short straw.

Urmstongran Mon 18-Apr-22 20:55:40

Goodness, I’ve just seen photos in the press of Macron in his unbuttoned shirt displaying his hairy chest. Swoon?

Someone should do him a kindness during this campaign and inform him what a total pillock he is making of himself.

Macron the macho manque!

Ew! Embarrassing. Wonder what the yoof think?

Perhaps it's used for the Communion wine?! It always tasted rough.

Fennel Mon 18-Apr-22 17:41:39

Mamie Never heard of that - but they're very creative with alcohol.

Mamie Mon 18-Apr-22 17:28:50

I was about to say wouldn't that be communard(e)s Fennel, when I discovered it is also a name for red wine mixed with Cassis. Sounds vile. ?

Fennel Mon 18-Apr-22 17:15:19

You're right, mokryna . Although we no longer live there. I still have love for the country and especially the rural areas and the people who live there. We left 4 years ago after 18 happy years.
re Communists - The country is still politically divided into Communes.

sodapop Mon 18-Apr-22 16:49:49

I agree Mamie & vegansrock

Joseanne Mon 18-Apr-22 16:47:20

Quoi?

Mildmanneredgran Mon 18-Apr-22 16:42:16

Must be the unbuttoned shirt and hairy chest.

Only joking.....

Mamie Mon 18-Apr-22 16:36:24

Macron lead now between 9-12 points. ???

vegansrock Mon 18-Apr-22 15:48:43

My French family voters are hoping that Macron wins as that means stability.

Mamie Mon 18-Apr-22 15:32:29

I would be more inclined to go with knowledge and intellect when choosing a leader.
Macron has been a pretty good President and through Covid we have felt in safe hands. Communications have been clear and his speeches to the nation have reassured and explained decisions. He is not perfect, but you have a sense of an intelligent man, doing his best. I think that in the UK you also do not get a sense of the role of the governments of Philippe and Castex. Véran has been a good health minister.
Le Pen has had some better expressed ideas this time (if you like that sort of thing), but she comes across as weak on the economy and frankly not terribly bright.
France cannot afford a populist in charge.

You must go with your heart and gut feeling that's all anyone of us can do. Sometimes who we vote for do us proud but unfortunately sometimes they let us down.

mokryna Mon 18-Apr-22 13:47:08

Maudi

I don't really know but if and that's a big if she does get elected it will certainly shake things up a bit within France and the EU. Obviously I am English so just an observer with no vote just my opinions, whether they are worth anything or not.

I think considering what has happened over the last few years he has managed well.

He couldn’t get the pension reforms through because of the protests from the yellow jackets.
After there was Covid which looking at other countries with similar wealth and population France came out reasonable.

She will just cause more unrest.

You now know who I might be voting for.

Joseanne Mon 18-Apr-22 11:45:08

Brexit or not, it wasn't fair to try to exclude someone from visiting our shores just because. And Farage is stupid anyway.

volver Mon 18-Apr-22 11:32:12

That "silly Labour politician"? Gisela Stuart. Brexit campaigner and chairman of the Vote Leave campaign.

Farage didn't want her either.

Interesting.

Joseanne Mon 18-Apr-22 11:23:27

Le Pen has not done anything bad enough to be banned from the UK like some silly Labour politician wanted. (Can't remember who - female, a few years back.) We're not Russia in that respect. Even Zemmour was allowed in to do his canvassing bit in London, little good it did him though thankfully.

Coastpath Mon 18-Apr-22 10:51:48

Is LePen not more enamoured with Russia than the EU though? That's a worry isn't it?

Urmstongran Mon 18-Apr-22 10:44:45

Maybe just not so cross with us or Brexit? Especially as Macron is an EU stick of rock whereas Le Pen (at one time) favoured Frexit and is not so enamoured with the EU and the euro.

Coastpath Mon 18-Apr-22 10:42:05

Macron has done the UK no favours.

What favours do you think LePen will do the UK Maudi?

I don’t know what will happen but this was the situation 4 days ago.

The occupation and protests at the Sorbonne are part of a wave of actions taken by students and youth to oppose the “choice” between neo-fascist Le Pen and Macron, who has pursued fascistic policies throughout his presidency.

halfpint1 Mon 18-Apr-22 09:07:37

I'm sure Monsieur Macron is as aware of the British Leader's
personality as are many of the British people. Is it any wonder he has taken a step back.
