Will you vote Tory next time?

Just wondering if those who voted Conservative at the last General Election will do so next time? I ask the question in light of all the scandals associated with this Government, together with the lack of action taken to mitigate the effects of the ‘cost of living crisis’ (despite France, Spain and several other European countries giving much more help to their people), abandoning the Triple Lock (despite retaining it being in their manifesto).

Mo Mowlem was gobby too and so is Anne Widecombe and Ann off the chase

Maybe you have to be gobby to be a "successful" politician.
It seems to be what the media like (sells more papers etc) and this seems to be where most people get their information from.

Or have a good personal photographer for PR shots. Both Sunak and Truss have them.

Here in Manchester there is a lot of anger towards Andy Burnham because of CAZ (Clean Air Zone). A lot of folk saying they will not vote Labour because of the mess it has caused here, but not sure they want the Tories either!
Would be interested in how other places are dealing with the CAZ.

Maybe a DAZ (Dirty Air Zone) candidate would win some votes. hmm

I wouldn’t describe Mo Mowlem or Anne Widdicombe as gobby. Far from it. It isn’t having something useful to say and saying it that makes you gobby. Gobby = common and loud mouthed in my book.

Wasn't Mowlem famously potty mouthed and loud?

But she didn't wear cardigans. That's the important difference. ✔️

Hmmm ... I have a feeling that kind of subjective interpretation wouldn't stand up in court.

At least we have got to the bottom of it. It means 'common and loud'
Chippy women then

Anne Widdecombe is just plain nasty. A devout Catholic who believes that the death penalty should be reintroduced….

for common women in cardigans? wink

I will not adopt the anyone but a Conservative mindset just to oust what could be a perfectly good and honest councillor just because they are sporting a blue rosette.

But what if they supported Johnson and this terrible government, GG13?

volver Thu 14-Apr-22 16:31:00

If someone is standing for elections under the Conservative banner, they are associated with the party as it is today. And I could never in any way support a person or party that is so seriously out of kilter with my values.

Don't care how good they are at getting the potholes filled in.

She worked tirelessly for the Good Friday Agreement and she’s dead. Sadly far too soon.

I was referring to the forthcoming local council elections MaizieD , I will look at the details of what our Conservative Councillor has done, what the council proposes to do on several contentious local planning issues, and who is standing as an Independent against them.

I just cannot see the point of and I will not through my ward under the bus of an unknown quantity of a new councillor just because they are not Conservative.

Doesn’t the Bible refer to an eye for an eye?

She is a weirdo - she was a contemporary at university.

Maybe they helped secure funding for the local hospice or improvements the local school, or successfully campaigned against a hideous development that none of the locals wanted? But just reduce it to filling in potholes if you will.

volver Thu 14-Apr-22 16:43:46

Nope.

They're still a Tory and they stand with the party that wants to send people to Rwanda and who defends a leader who lies to Parliament.

Lie down with the dogs, you get fleas.

C'est la vie.

I honestly don't think there are any Essex County Council elections until 2025. Could be wrong, but I haven't heard anything and I should have done because we don't have a Conservative county councillor and the seat is likely to be hotly contested.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Apr-22 16:50:02

So to hell with the interests of your community then? Anyone as long as they’re not a Tory. But then I know that you’ve got SNP written through you like a stick of rock anyway whereas I vote for the right candidate for my community in local elections. I hear you can get very effective flea treatments by the way. My dogs have even had treatments to prevent them getting fleas.

Tulpia Thu 14-Apr-22 16:53:19

Of course I will vote Tory. The other parties are a joke.

JaneJudge Thu 14-Apr-22 16:55:19

we don't have any local elections for ages either growstuff and my county borders yours at some point smile

Wheniwasyourage Thu 14-Apr-22 16:58:38

I intend to vote for the SNP candidate in my ward, who is an excellent councillor, as well, probably, as another non-Tory. One of the Tories who are standing has been a councillor before, but I have never heard of anything he's done. At the moment I can't bring myself to think of putting a cross (or in this case a number) beside a Tory candidate, however good, although normally I do believe in voting for the candidate, not the party.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 14-Apr-22 17:00:29

We have local Council elections in May in this party of Essex, I have received my polling card.

growstuff Thu 14-Apr-22 17:01:05

This a full list of places with upcoming elections:

Many of them are for borough councils.

Quite honestly, this is Labour's election to lose - the situation is obviously different in Scotland.

Casdon Thu 14-Apr-22 17:03:09

And Wales. And Northern Ireland.
