So ... Nicola Sturgeon was reported to Police Scotland on Sunday for breaking her own mask laws, a breach that could result in a £60 fine, reduced to £30 if paid within 28 days.

Only hours before Saturday's visit to the barber shop in East Kilbride, the SNP issued a press release in which she urged Scots to vote for her party on May 5 "if you are as outraged as I am about the Prime Minister's contempt for the law."

Oh dear.
While she too be asked to resign?

I don’t envy the heckling Ian Blackford from Skye will be subjected to when he stands up n the HoC.

StoneofDestiny Tue 19-Apr-22 15:00:30

She forgot her mask for a few minutes and is on film wearing it for the rest of the event. Hardly comparable to Johnson attending multiple parties - and even going maskless into hospitals! But the real point is that Johnson has lied over and over again to Parliament.
Anybody excusing a lawbreaking liar like Johnson is a big part of the problem - diverting his noxious conduct by dragging in Scotland’s First Minister is pretty pathetic.

Omg how can anyone compare Nicola Sturgeon forgetting her mask for a couple of minutes to the behaviour of Boris and his cronies over the past 2 years during lockdowns.....Our First Minister was amazing during all of the lockdowns...Give her a break please..!!!!

Brownow1564 I think you must be reading a different press from me,EVERY media outlet other than the National is ANTI SNP and Anti Nicola Sturgeon. It really sticks in their throat that WE keep voting for them. Why wouldn't we? My 19 year old GS told me that the new free travel for under 22's saves him nearly £300 a MONTH.On a very low wage thats massive ,it also keeps local bus services busy and old bangers off the road ...win win I say.

Thats just ONE policy made for the people who struggle with zero hours contracts low wages etc.Our socail security benefits rise 6% ,Child payments of £20 a week ,SNP governmnet pays £600 MILLION a year to mitigate Tory policies from our FIXED budget that includes the "bedroomtax" .They have built more social housing in the past few years than labour did in decades, refurbished and built hundreds of schools .Why would we vote them out for a unionist government who reward the rich by taking from the poor ? Extra police ,extra NHS staff ,£10.000 a year bursaries for nursing students ...ask the people down south if they would prefer a government like this

I wouldn't do that job (MP) for all the tea in China, so to denounce them all as self-serving hypocrites is probably a bit harsh but....?

I'm sure many of them start out with high ideals and principles but I've heard it's dog eat dog in the House of Commons. They learn to toe the party line or life becomes very difficult. The Whips are there to enforce party discipline. WikipediA explains that system if you care to look. [Whip (politics)]

The Tories are scraping the barrel with this story. Brandon Lewis ( secretary of state for NI) also compared Boris's fixed penalty notice with a parking fine that Tony Blair was issued with while he was PM! Mind you, he was a lying angry too!

Secretsquirrel1 Tue 19-Apr-22 15:34:27

I’m really not keen on Boris getting ousted while this Russia / Ukraine crisis is this bad!. If the war were to escalate I’d rather have his strong stance on it.
I can’t really see anyone else in the wings who’s suitable to take over immediately I don’t think, this isn’t a time for a new PM to have to learn the ropes.
Honestly I think we need to put this party business on hold.
I bet Putin would be bloody ecstatic if Boris gets kicked out.

Dinahmo Tue 19-Apr-22 15:37:26

I think that the Tory party machinery is out in force. Several women on J Vine this morning parroting that it was just a party, people in other organisations held them too, he lives at No. 10 and T Blair is a criminal for the Iraq War. I've heard this elsewhere too.

Bluecat Tue 19-Apr-22 15:50:49

I don't have a strong opinion on Nicolas Sturgeon, except to say that I think she was a more decisive leader than Johnson during the worst days of the pandemic. However, that's not saying much. Ethelred the Unready could have provided more consistent and sensible leadership than Boris Johnson.

But I do think that it's unfair to compare someone forgetting to put on their mask in a shop and someone going to parties. An incident of forgetfulness is hardly the same as deciding to do something that you know breaks the rules...unless you accept Johnson's claims that he is unable to recognise a party when he is in the middle of one. Including his own birthday party.

You are absolutely right. Idiots actually parrot the idea that Nicola Sturgeon was actually doing things differently just to get 'one over on Boris*. Seriously - how utterly banal. Some cannot accept she is The First Minister of Scotland and voted in to work to the benefit of Scotland.

StoneofDestiny Tue 19-Apr-22 16:05:25

For balance OP - her in Nicola at the same event in her mask.

StoneofDestiny Tue 19-Apr-22 16:10:11

Boris Johnson had to be told three times before he finally followed rules and kept his mask on for a hospital visit.

He was accused of “callous disregard” for the NHS after wandering around without one

Susie Flintham of Covid-19 Families for Justice said: “The PM was putting lives at risk completely unnecessarily by visiting a hospital and refusing to put his mask on, despite being repeatedly asked to

“For him to make a point of posing for a photo without a mask is a slap in the face to bereaved families.”

Sources confirmed Hexham General Hospital chiefs emailed Mr Johnson’s team before his visit to tell him masks must be worn in all areas

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Tue 19-Apr-22 16:20:02

They are all a load of hypocritical liars only interested in themselves. I used to push female friends, co workers, female family etc, who never bothered, to vote but now am at the point of not even bothering myself not one of them to be trusted including our local candidates who all have skeletons in their closets. I'm joining the ranks of the CBA's and will just accept that non of them are worth the walk to the polling stations.

TheSocialHermit Tue 19-Apr-22 16:22:45

You don't even live in Scotland! What Sturgeon did was a simple mistake. I wear a mask whenever I go out. However, I pull it down if I am walking and there is nobody around. A few times I have forgotten to pull it back on before entering a shop.

You seem like a typical Tory trying to deflect away from the corrupt Johnson and company!

The person who reported Nicola Sturgeon is Jane Lax, the former treasurer of the Moray Tories, who incidentally was suspended for making jokes about Sturgeon’s miscarriage!

Grandma2002 Tue 19-Apr-22 16:26:52

This is a bit silly. I can't count the number of times I have forgotten to put my mask on for a few minutes. She put a mask on soon after it was pointed out to her.

Nannashirlz Tue 19-Apr-22 16:27:53

Yes hetty58 if it was her first time I’d agree with you but it’s not her first time is it. You can’t have one rule for one in charge to an other. They all as bad has each other. It’s not one rule for them and one rule for us. Like it’s not one rule for Boris and different rules for Nicola. Suppose to lead by example are they not none of them deserve to be in charge because no one of them have earned my vote and I mean labour can’t tell you what a woman is. So I will be voting for no one.

Brownowl564

Nannina clearly you are utterly clueless about Sturgeon
More statesmenlike, what a joke, lied to Scottish parliament and report said so , what did she do, resign? Of course not, just got one of her supporters to write another report saying she didn’t lie and then ignored the first one,
The press never call her out on anything, partly because she keeps putting super injunctions in the way and partly because they are useful for attacking Westminster with.
When they finally did start questioning her , she banned the press from all briefings

That's mostly just made up though, isn't it? smile

No, it is not made up.

volver Tue 19-Apr-22 16:31:50

Aye, aye it is.

Got any links? Got any corroborative evidence?

I'm away to look for some front pages of the press "never calling her out".hmm

I loved the 'most dangerous woman in Britain' headline. As someone commented, they can't have met many Scottish women.

I was of the opinion this feed was bout FM forgetting for all of 2 mins to put her mask on not putting her on trial for everything some people can dredge up about her....Couldn't possibly compare her to Bojo and his antics during lockdown Please stop tearing her apart..

Nannashirlz Tue 19-Apr-22 16:49:37

Peterra it doesn’t matter who did what or one did more than other. They both made the rules and both broke rules end of …..

Ah 'end of'. How can we argue against that?

Mine Tue 19-Apr-22 16:59:11

Sorry NANNASHIRLZ totally disagree with you...To forget a mask for 2 mins is an oversize...What BoJo and his cronies did was preplanned and it wasn't just forgetting their masks....and I'm sure we don't even know the half of it...

I will keep saying it. What don't you get about the difference between one person not putting a mask on for a couple of seconds, realising her mistake and putting it on and also apologising.

and

a person going to several illegal (at the time) gatherings, repeatedly lying about the very existence of these gatherings, being found guilty of having been there and fined. He has also blamed others for his actions and been prepared to sack someone who wasn't actually at the gatherings.
