Oh Nicola! We’re not as green as we’re cabbage looking! ???????

Nicola Sturgeon has denied her government staged a cover-up over its decision to hand a scandal-hit ferries contract to a shipyard owned by an independence supporter after it admitted key documents “cannot be located”.

The First Minister said it was “regrettable” that there was no paper trail showing why her administration had handed the contract to Ferguson Marine after ferry chiefs warned the award was too risky and asked for it to be withdrawn.

She argued that her government had provided lots of other information but “this particular piece of written evidence” was not available.

But the Tories said it was “inconceivable” that there was nothing in the Scottish Government's records to show why SNP ministers pressed ahead without a full refund guarantee, a standard clause in shipbuilding contracts.

The ferries’ cost has since spiralled from £97 million to £250 million and their construction is running five years late.“

Well, well. ??

Oh c’mom! Only a complete pilchard would swallow that one.

The Scots love her despite the ferry scandal, hopeless health service, failing education, and the drugs explosion.

Bye bye Scotland.

MORE missing paperwork, really? Time after time. She must think we haven’t seen the first fall of snow.

I wasn't talking about Scotland in particular but the UK as a whole.

Some countries just get on with building the infrastructure needed.
We need a by-pass. They'll dither about it for years, listen to all the objections, by the time it might be built it will have quadrupled in price and probably doubled again by the time it's finished.

I agree with you @Urmstongran

The road equivalent tariff that slashed prices had unintended consequences…. not properly thought out by the Scottish government… It caused a boom in tourists … great, but it means that islanders find it very difficult in the summer to get off the island with their cars at short notice because it it fully booked. So if you have a last minute hospital appointment you can’t get over to the mainland hospital. Why are islanders not given some sort of priority booking for emergencies. I know all about the problems of getting to Arran as I have relatives there. They had to go over to the mainland a day early for the hospital and stay in a B and B … then a further night in the B and B. before they could get a ferry home. It seems now because there is only one ferry operating that islanders are at least getting some priority. It beats me why the islanders of Scotland have been continually voting in the SNP as this has been ongoing for years. Don’t get me started on the Arran ferries …It’s a shocking situation.

The Independence movement is grass roots led,Nicola Sturgeon is only doing what we asked her to do by calling for another referendum. If you have ever seen the marches you'll know there are rarely any politicians present .The SNP mandate clearly stated it would fight for Independence ..because thats why we VOTED for them.
You really need to get over your hatred of a woman
who is our ELECTED representativeUrm .
This is just another case of England(not all) telling us what we can and cant do .
Please focus on your own disfunctional leaders ,Didin't Mrs May lose lots of names on a list of WM paedophiles ? Go shout about that or the money Bojo has wasted on his Garden Bridge and Water cannon etc etc etc .

100% what paddyann54 just said.

It seems to me that whatever huge projects we undertake in this country, we spend huge amounts on feasibility studies then the projects usually always end up years late and way over budget.

Some countries just get on with it!

A thought for St George's Day:

"The enemies of Scottish Nationalism are not the English, for they were ever a great and generous folk, quick to respond when justice calls. Our real enemies are among us, born without imagination."

I don't live on an island, Callistemon21, and I know that those who do are definitely fed up. However, there are those who want to get their knives into the SNP government from outwith our borders. I don't see that they can contribute much when it comes to sorting out the ferries mess. That is surely up to us and our votes.

Thank you for your concern, Urmstongran, but we'll probably cope. Why do you think that those of us who live in Scotland are commenting on a foreign government if we say anything about Mr Johnson and the UK government? Very odd.

Thank you for your concern, Urmstongran, but we'll probably cope

Presumably you don't live on one of the islands which are having problems, Wheniwasyourage?

According to my nephew's friends, they aren't coping very well at all and are fed up.

TopsyIrene06 Sat 23-Apr-22 11:55:48

"We are better together?" What? From a Brexiter? Very weird.

Granny23 Sat 23-Apr-22 11:47:22

volver you have an awful lot to say about Boris and the Tory government! I never say ‘butt out you don’t live here!’.

And there you have it in a nutshell. UG displaying her total ignorance of the political situation in the UK. She seems to think that the Westminster UK Government does not govern the whole of the UK and that we, who live in Scotland should have no opinion or right to criticise its policies and actions. It is certainly true that Scotish MPs have little or no influence at Westminster, because the much larger contingent of England based MPs outvotes them at every turn.

Nor does she understand that the devolved parliaments have very restricted powers (which can be rescinded if the UK Government so decides) or the ability to invoke quantitative easing or borrow money.

So many false assertions - eg 'rise in Ferry Fares' Of course there is as fuel prices soar, but no knowledge that Scottish Ferries operate on Road Equivalent Tariffs. i.e the cost will be in line with the cost incurred if you were able to drive there in a car. Nor that e.g. the Isle of Skye is now linked to the main land by a toll free bridge, whilst retaining a ferry connection to the Outer Hebrides. I could go on all day with examples, but suffice to say Uniformed opinions are not worth consideration

Urmstongran Sat 23-Apr-22 11:41:25

Coastpath ?

I don’t WIWYA. I think we should all be allowed to comment on anything we like.

Callistemon21 Sat 23-Apr-22 10:49:29

The Scottish Government would have been criticised if they'd awarded the contract to overseas companies so ? for attempting to save Scottish jobs but the result has been calamitous which doesn't say much for British shipbuilding or competence.

Coastpath Sat 23-Apr-22 10:49:07

Good on you Urmstongran sounds like a great balance.

Sorry to swerve proceedings. No deflection intended.

Now that's odd as I thought you said you had downsized in the UK and a small place in Spain and divided your time between the two Ug. I felt sure I remember you strolling out for Tapas in the sun for Sunday lunch. My mind is obviously kaput.

Nope. You are absolutely correct. It’s just that I don’t divide my time exactly between here & there. We are in Urmston more (as Maw pointed out).

Urmstongran Sat 23-Apr-22 10:42:44

It is Coastpath if anyone wishes to use the full allowance.
Even then, that means 183 days are spent over here, for anyone in the UK means they pay their taxes here.

Urmstongran Sat 23-Apr-22 10:40:11

I’ve never reported a post in my life Calli. You’re quite right.

Anyway folks, perhaps enough about my holiday home eh? And back to the ferry debacle as in the OP?

SOME might even think this was a DEFLECTION! ??

Apologies if I have mistaken, but I thought Urmstongran spent half the year in Spain.

She used to, but she's restricted to 90 days now... grin

Do be careful folks!
Other posters reported people for daring to mention they might not live in the UK.

I'm sure Urmstongran wouldn't do that though.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, surely?

Coastpath Sat 23-Apr-22 10:35:18

MawtheMerrier

I don’t think we can do that can we?

^You will be allowed to spend up to 90 days in Spain, and then you must leave the country. You will not be able to return until 180 days have passed since your date of entry into Spain (or Schengen). However, you can divide the 90-day period into two (45 days each) and spend each of them in Spain during the 180 days^

So two lots of 90 days in one year - that's half the year.

Granniesunite Sat 23-Apr-22 10:34:13

There is a lot of us in Scotland that think the UK deserves better but we’re stuck with a government that we did not vote for. A government that puts party before country.

Let the ballot box decide what way Scotland will go.
