Nicola Sturgeon has denied her government staged a cover-up over its decision to hand a scandal-hit ferries contract to a shipyard owned by an independence supporter after it admitted key documents “cannot be located”.

The First Minister said it was “regrettable” that there was no paper trail showing why her administration had handed the contract to Ferguson Marine after ferry chiefs warned the award was too risky and asked for it to be withdrawn.

She argued that her government had provided lots of other information but “this particular piece of written evidence” was not available.

But the Tories said it was “inconceivable” that there was nothing in the Scottish Government's records to show why SNP ministers pressed ahead without a full refund guarantee, a standard clause in shipbuilding contracts.

The ferries’ cost has since spiralled from £97 million to £250 million and their construction is running five years late.“

Well, well. ??

Oh c’mom! Only a complete pilchard would swallow that one.

The Scots love her despite the ferry scandal, hopeless health service, failing education, and the drugs explosion.

Bye bye Scotland.

MORE missing paperwork, really? Time after time. She must think we haven’t seen the first fall of snow.

Meanwhile, in other news:

“Allies of Boris Johnson have lashed out at Tory MPs calling for the Prime Minister to resign after the House of Commons ordered a third inquiry into lockdown parties in Downing Street.

Senior backbencher Tobias Ellwood said there had been “a huge breach of trust” with the British people as he called on Conservative MPs to force a change of leadership.”

MORE parties, yes really. grin

There does seem to be an issue when it comes to keeping hold of paperworkhmm.

How did I know just by reading the title that you had started this post Urmstongran? Call it intuition.

I fervently hope & ❤️ Scotland to remain in the family of the UK.
BETTER TOGETHER!
Scotland is very dear to my family.
Nicola Sturgeon is for pulling us apart. I don’t want her to succeed.

Actually on thinking about this .... Surely it's a breach of duty by civil servants to lose this sort of document? It’s not a nothing! Lawyers must have been involved too.

Sack a couple of civil servants and report the lawyers to the Law Society for poor professional standards and see if they are miraculously "found".

Aveline Fri 22-Apr-22 20:09:08

Urmstongran's not wrong though. It's very hard indeed to believe that the paperwork regarding this disastrous acquisition by Scottish government is missing. Also hard to believe that they somehow don't have a record of the businesses that were given money from Westminster as Covid support. Computers not working? Or something...

Urmstongran Fri 22-Apr-22 20:12:40

Thank you Aveline.

Better together, a strong United Kingdom ??

Definitely GG13 ?

How can a basic ferry be 5 years behind schedule to build? The Titanic took 2 years to build, with whatever old technology they had at the time, yet in this day and age it seems to be beyond them.

Yet, a member of my stepfather’s family said the problem is, “they are not basic”.

The islanders want a bog standard, proven tec vessel, yet the Greens / SNP insist on an over complicated version, full crew to tie up /cast off (hard to beleive in this day apparently ) a 50 minute crossing so must have full catering facilities (!) plus full accommodation for overnight crew - £37,000 for a deck hand on 22 weeks a YEAR.

Crazy stuff.

The Independence movement is grass roots led,Nicola Sturgeon is only doing what we asked her to do by calling for another referendum. If you have ever seen the marches you'll know there are rarely any politicians present .The SNP mandate clearly stated it would fight for Independence ..because thats why we VOTED for them.
You really need to get over your hatred of a woman
who is our ELECTED representativeUrm .
This is just another case of England(not all) telling us what we can and cant do .
Please focus on your own disfunctional leaders ,Didin't Mrs May lose lots of names on a list of WM paedophiles ? Go shout about that or the money Bojo has wasted on his Garden Bridge and Water cannon etc etc etc .

tidyskatemum Fri 22-Apr-22 20:31:11

The ferry fiasco is but one example of the ineptitude of the SNP government. There was a sell off of rights for offshore wind power recently. In England the average price was £360,000 per sq km. Scotland imposed a bid limit of £100,000 per sq km. Can anyone fathom out why you would hamstring yourself in this way in a public auction?

I agree, GG13

I will not comment urther on the grounds that criticising the SNP on GN is akin to blasphemy.

Bye bye Scotland.

You gonna blow us up?

Fill your boots. I canna be ar**ed

There was no suggestion from the auditor general that information had been withheld from Audit Scotland.

tickingbird Fri 22-Apr-22 20:38:28

Probably similar to her bad memory when giving ‘evidence’ in court.

Urmstongran Fri 22-Apr-22 20:47:08

Quite probably tickingbird I don’t know how she gets away with it to be honest.

grannydarkhair Fri 22-Apr-22 21:10:10

“The Scots love her” - trust me, there’s a lot of us who love neither NS herself nor the SNP. The two failed Independence Referendums prove that. Like the rest of the UK, apathy is the biggest problem when it comes to elections, both local and general.

Urmstongran Fri 22-Apr-22 21:12:59

The “papers” are probably with that missing £600,000……

How on earth do SNP supporters have the hypocrisy to criticise Boris with this apparent corruption?

Perhaps if Nicola wasn’t so keen to get on TV all the time - an example being doing every Covid briefing herself and also stirring up independence every 5 minutes she’d have been able to concentrate on doing her job and ‘finding’ those papers.

Urmstongran Fri 22-Apr-22 21:14:57

Those agin her are less vociferous grannydarkhair aren’t they? I don’t know why. Do you?

Wheniwasyourage Fri 22-Apr-22 21:21:02

I can't understand how people who are not affected by anything that Nicola Sturgeon does are so upset by her. We in Scotland pay our taxes (and the richer among us pay more while the poorer pay less) and make our own decisions on how to spend them. Our free prescriptions and all the rest do not have any effect on those of you in other parts of the UK.

Urmstongran Fri 22-Apr-22 21:26:17

I’m not keen on her because she and the SNP are a one trick pony. Independence at all costs and she’s pretty dire at much else. I want the Union to withstand this onslaught and I don’t believe she’s as popular as is made out?

If only those who await new ferries, a new road on the Rest and be Thankful , care about the missing £600,00 etc got their voting finger out and get rid!

Casdon Fri 22-Apr-22 21:27:54

It’s an attempt at a distraction technique by occupants of Cloud Cuckooland, the nirvana of Tory voters for whom Partygate is but a tiny cloud fading into the horizon.

Urmstongran Fri 22-Apr-22 21:37:36

Nope. Nothing to do with deflection from Boris & his woes Casdon. I’ve moved on from him. I’m grateful he Got Brexit Done but if he’s out on his ear, so be it.

Come the GE I’ll have to think hard.
See what my options are.

But on to Nicola ... “ it Wasnae Me..and anyway, it it was, I forgot..".
