The government is effectively removing the Electoral commissions independence to oversee fair and democratic elections in the U.K.

The lords have voted against it.

The voters polled showed a 70% of them think that the commission should be independent.

The government will almost certainly override the lords and push through a bill that the vast majority in the country think is wrong.

^It would be good if someone could explain what the negatives are, apart from not having had to do it until now.^

It's not about that, V. And people who don't currently have photo ID can get it free for voting purposes. but I suppose this does mean people who shouldn't be voting, for whatever reason, won't be able to. Hmm.

Butting in

There is no problem with voter fraud.

Why fix something that isn’t broken, other than try to manipulate the vote?

Oh, FGS, Baggs. Just who is it who now votes who shouldn't be voting? .Is there evidence that this happens or are you just making it up?

I find it extraordinary that people are so willing to accept completely unnecessary restrictions and loss of freedoms and even defend their imposition.

What is wrong with prosecutions being the job of the Police and Crown Prosecution Service? If anyone can answer that I'd be grateful as I'm not yet seeing what the problem is.

Of course, we have so many spare police around to investigate electoral crime, don't we?

Everyone keep their fingers crossed that the food you buy is ok.

No checks of any sort are to be made.

A Brexit benefit according to Rees Mogg.

Dear oh dear.

Weeks ago Johnson was told by MPs to publish the security risk attached to Lebedev.

He had 28 days - time has run out - he still hadn’t complied.
