Keir and Angela’s drinks party

After all the relentless droning on day after day, about Boris having a drink, the very same month we now find that Keir and Angela did the same. Pity the video came out or they might have got away with it, What hypocrisy, I believe the Durham police are going to treat this in exactly the same way as the conservatives were, or perhaps it’s different rules when you are the opposition, so let’s wait for the sort of apology Boris gave, the sort of grief Keir relentlessly day after day, war or no war, inflicted on Boris to resign, let’s hope he gets the same. All the time knowing what they had done but not owned up to and banking on not being caught out. Talk about two faced. How can you believe award he says. As he was fond of saying, rules are rules whomever you are. (If you are caught out).

GG13 I for one remember that you have criticised Johnson and his government in the past few months.

TBH, that's why I am so surprised to see that you believe this Daily Mail nonsense. There is no story here and they want people to believe that every politician is as bad as the others. And they are not.

I doubt Starmer or anybody else is perfect, but this entire story is fabricated, and the Mail is using "clever" techniques to make people think Starmer or someone else in the Labour Party lied and broke the law, and there is no evidence for that whatsoever.

But, get the electorate to think they are all as bad as each other, a big proportion don't bother to vote or spoil their ballots, Johnson and the Tories get in again. Dacre gets his knighthood. Its not rocket science.

Liebour the new name for Labour?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 30-Apr-22 11:22:06

volver I know that this is timed for the local elections next week.

I just have this niggling doubt regarding why this was not corrected at the time, and all the subsequent times when this gathering has been brought up in various media outlets?

I really really dislike lying/liars which is why I cannot give the PM my continued support.

(Blimey am I falling down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole?)

Serious questions.

Before today, did anyone on here know or care whether Rayner was there?

Does it have any bearing on whether Keir drank a beer or not?

Does anybody have any evidence of the Labour party denying she was there?

Does it matter whether she was there or not?

Why is anybody taken in by this????

GrannyGravy13 Sat 30-Apr-22 11:39:04

Honestly, I think it is deception by omission.

Whether or not it is/was intentional i do not know?

Like I said upthread I really think that I am over politics.

I hope they get the same treatment as the Conservatives have. I’m so sick of Labour being portrayed as these perfect people who never do anything wrong or lie. They do. People are delusional if they think otherwise. I’m a paid up union member and normally vote Labour but they’re a shambles. Perhaps now they’ll shut up about partygate and focus on letting us know how they would run the country. Then, just then, I’ll maybe consider voting for them in the next election which I wouldn’t do currently.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 30-Apr-22 11:52:15

volver when Durham police investigated the incident they would have requested and been given a list of names who were there.

I would have thought Mr. Starmer was aware of the statement/information and that on seeing that Ms. Rayner was not on the list rectified it at the time.

Giving inaccurate information to the police is not a trait I wish to see in any political party.

growstuff Sat 30-Apr-22 11:55:21

But it's not just Labour who are going on about "Partygate".

When I have time, I might plough through all the obfuscation and find out what Keir Starmer has actually done.

All we seem to know is that an inaccurate list was given to Durham Police. We don't know what verbal evidence they were given. For all we know, Starmer may have told the police verbally that Rayner was there. Unless the police were to publish the whole dossier on the incident (which they won't) we will never know what evidence they were working on.

But, there is absolutely no earthly reason why Rayner shouldn't have been there. So why should anyone lie about it?

(Unlike Johnson's wife, who shouldn't have been in a government office offering cake. She doesn't work for No 10 and the only place she should have been was in the flat at No. 11.)

Well it was the Mail who asked, not the Police.

From the BBC website:

A Labour spokesman told the BBC their initial response to the Mail's questions had been "a mistake" and not a cover-up, because Labour would have had no reason to conceal Ms Rayner's attendance as no lockdown rules had been broken.

So. It seems nobody lied to the police abut anything, whatever seeds of doubt the Mail have managed to sow.

Nandalot Sat 30-Apr-22 12:36:43

Durham police have investigated and no lockdown rules were broken. There were no restaurants open, the hotel did not serve food so they bought in pizza and beer, that is a meal, not a party.
As for the birthday cake incident, that took place after rules had changed and you could meet six people indoors for a social gathering..

You are making things up now GrannyGravy. Despite what you have said, you seem determined to make this a "lie".

What difference did the unintentional missing off of Angela Rayner's name make? Nothing illegal had taken place whether she was there or not. The police didn't think anything illegal had happened and they still don't think anything illegal has happened.

Every time someone points out the fault in your argument, you try and find another to sooth your personal bias.

No, when the media report Labour inaccuracies or omissions, we’re all being manipulated.

Perhaps now they’ll shut up about partygate and focus on letting us know how they would run the country

I’ve even gone so far as to write to KS and my local Labour Party candidate asking exactly that. You’d think that now would be a great time to say how they can improve things in the face of the current government problems.
KS-no response.
My local candidate mentioned a few things-mostly to do with local council issues.
He couldn’t tell me what the LP were going to do about poverty or the rising cost of living or farming or Brexit related problems but he did say there’ll be a lot to sort out “before we even start”which is what every incoming government says.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 30-Apr-22 13:00:52

Isn’t this exactly the problem? Endless criticism but nothing to say ‘this is what we would do’? Are they devoid of ideas or afraid of putting forward a suggestion that the current government might take on board?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 30-Apr-22 13:02:01

DaisyAnne you couldn’t be further from the truth regarding my own personal bias

Like I have said repeatedly (I am bored with posting this so I can only assume that you and others must be bored reading it). I am politically homeless and totally over politics until such time that we have politicians who tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

At the very least, Mr. Starmer has mislead the electorate and the media, just another day in the cesspit that is The Palace of Westminster

I shall not hold my breath holding out for a Centrist, honest and electable party, as the wait, in my opinion will be substantial…

So why has he said that it was a genuine mistake not to mention that Ms. Rayner was there his words not mine.

A mistake, we all make mistakes but in my experience when it comes from any politician it is more likely to be misleading by omission

I must point out that I am the at the stage that I really do not care if we are ruled by The bloody Wombles…

How did he mislead the electorate and the media? Did he go out and say "Angela wasn't there". I didn't hear it; when did you? I only took on board that Starmer was there. How come you knew about this before the latest lies in the Mail, et al? Politicians are not all the same. Johnson is a liar and he lies about important matters of state. This is no more a lie than you forgetting to tell a friend about one of the people who attended a wedding/funeral etc.

I feel that the moral compass of the Tory voter has now actually been turned on its head. They now lie to try and make up a lie by their opponents.
