The USA’s Supreme Court have approved a (draft) judgement to overturn Roe v Wade decision. If this is passed, abortion (no matter what the circumstances) immediately becomes illegal in at least 22 states.
They don’t hate abortion. They hate women. Misogyny is at the heart of every right wing movement. Trump’s Republicans and Johnson’s Tories.
I am so glad I am old because this world is becoming unbearable to live in.

My brother has seen your posts and has advised that I report them
So you have been reported
My brother actually couldn't believe the posts on here were real he said he didn't know that older women could behave in this way, have to say I agree with him such bitterness just because someone does not have the same opinion as you honestly hard to believe
Your brother has a view on how older women should behave? Good for him. I have a view on any male who passes judgement on females, would he be interested in hearing it? Thought not, and his opinion of us 'older women' is equally irrelevant to me. The only bitterness I see is the vile use of the word murder when applied to legal abortion.
Of course you are entitled to believe that abortion is wrong, and nobody will try to make you have one (assuming you're of childbearing age) but what gives you or your brother the right to force any woman to endure 9 months of a pregnancy they don't want, even a pregnancy from rape? How would he like some women making decisions about his reproductive rights? Forced sterilisation for example, or the refusal to allow him the vasectomy he requested?
Are we supposed to know why we should have any respect for what your brother says TheodoraP? I must have missed something.
I imagine that if I asked my brother what he thought, he might say that he knows, from his active service in the past, just how extreme and cruel people, with no acceptance of democracy, are when trying to impose their views.
Those who constantly tell us, "I am entitled to my opinion", seem to disregard the fact that, if that is a rule, everyone else is entitled to their opinion without being considered to be criminals.

Are we supposed to be disappointed in ourselves because a man disapproves of our behaviour?
Which posts have shown bitterness, and what makes you think that they are bitter because you don't share the opinion of the poster?
Don't worry, it takes me at least 3 attempts to actually leave a discussion and stop reading it
He advised that I end my membership but there are so many kind thoughtful members I just need to avoid some members that all

The following is my opinion as an American. Please try to remove emotion from this topic & look at the facts before making an opinion.
Roe Vs. Wade (R v. W) was passed in '73 when I was 10. I didn't have an idea what it meant at the time, but remember the controversy on the news. As a teen, people from the County Health Office who worked in Project Venus was brought into my school once for "Sex Education". They said aborting babies was normal part of life & getting venereal disease as OK cause we have cures. The female in her fifties was happy to promote free sex to a bunch of 13-year-olds. (Note: The County Government later did away with this office.)
R v. W is very complicated when you delve into it. Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) lied about being pregnant from a gang rape. She got pregnant because of bad choices in life which is another story. The moment that she admitted she lied, the decision should have been revisited & reversed putting the choice of whether or not to allow abortions be made at the State level.
R v. W wasn't about protecting women's rights at all, but an attempt to erode the rights of each State (i.e., citizens) to vote on whether or not they want to legalize abortions & what restrictions, if any, to be placed on it. Some individual(s) saw a chance to promote their larger agenda & ran with it. As well, citing the 14th Amendment as the basis for the ruling was totally off as it had nothing to with this issue.
IF, R v. W is reversed, it will not outlaw abortions. It allows the people of each State to vote on it. If you live in a State that doesn't, you can go to another State that does.
My opinion over the years has evolved because of reading & learning about the facts. A family member who worked for a local abortion clinic opened up my eyes. She witnessed first-hand the same women repeatedly used abortion as a means of birth control. She also told me of women who had real medical conditions that had to abort a baby which tore up them & their husbands. This changed her mind on abortion & she quit.
There's no reason to become pregnant. You got choices & they're easy to come by i.e., condoms, IUD's, tubal ligation, spermicides, abstaining, the morning after pill & etc. It's your responsibility to be accountable for your actions. If you refuse, don't play the victim card and cry about it.
As of now, my belief is abortion should only be allowed in the case of a rape/incest or to save the life of the mother. To those who want to argue in case of the mother, my feeling is that she could possibly have more children or may already of children who need her to live.
No woman that I know or met has ever told me if they've had an abortion. I will not judge them if they had, that is between them and God. But I will not condone the killing of a child who was conceived & not wanted through no action of their own.

Switch off the 'life support' machine for a patient in a coma but has significant brain activity and that's murder. Take away the life support system (mother) for a healthy foetus and that's abortion.
Disclaimer: my opinion is directed at those who want to promote state sanctioned abortion, this being a political thread. If I have offended someone on a personal level who has been involved with an abortion then please know God can and will forgive anything. Not my place to judge but hope to argue for us as a society to do better in future. We have learned a lot about the unborn child since abortion was legalised so maybe time for change. Maybe the US Supreme Court is thinking along these lines...
You are distorting the facts HolySox. Under certain circumstances switching off a life support machine is legal. Your opinion does not change that. This means the opinion you are posting is flawed.
You can post all the disclaimers you want but a disagreement, political or otherwise is simply not valid if the arguments you use are untrue - and you appear to be using untruths. Some of the language used is by posters is both offensive and filled with hate. Some of it may even legally be religious hatred against a group of people who do not share the poster's particular religious views.
How many times has she flounced?
I’m sure she said yesterday she wasn’t coming back.

Daisyanne are you a lawyer because you are speaking like one in that you are twisting my words
Members have no reason to fear me as I am not call naming I am simply giving my opinion
No, I am not a lawer nor have I twisted any of your words. If you believe I have perhaps you could quote the original words and how I have wrongly repeated them.
I am surprised you can't see how what you say is hurtful. So hurtful it is possibly stopping the very people who have in-depth knowledge from contributing. You are treating your opinion as fact a then feeling justified in making accusations of extreme criminal behaviour. Calling people murderers is exceptionally harsh and also untrue. I think you should remember this is a legal procedure.
We do not "have a right to an opinion" it's simply that, under normal circumstances, no one can stop you from thinking. This fact does not mean you can voice just what you want to. Some laws limit how and what you say, as do GNs rules.
Ah, the classic flounce.
'I am entitled to my opinion. I am not playing any more as you're all being mean by having opinions of your own. I'm off now, bye!'
It's depressingly familiar.
PS as we are grown adults I hope that going forward we can still contribute to other threads and be civil to eachother
VioletSky did not use that word once
This is my last post on this matter//thread
I am entitled to my opinion
It has not changed it will never change
To me life is sacred
I wouldn't bother replying to my post because as said I won't be visiting this thread again so your reply won't be read
Thank you
Offering money to the daughter of a friend who made the decision to have a termination makes me feel sick and angry
Be anti choice but don’t try and talk a young woman out if her choice
I’m with GSM on the sanctimonious crap front

"She told me to mind my own business" - and this, quite frankly, is what it all boils down to at the end of the day. If a woman chooses to have an abortion, it is just that - her choice, and the reasons behind it are none of your damned business. Her body, her choice - end of story. You can be as anti-abortion as you wish - just don't attempt to force your views down the throats of others.
Discodancer you do understand the cost of raising a child?
Starting with a blank slate isnt going to do it. If she got into debt before then surely you can imagine after.
Its just an example of being pro birth imo.
Sanctimonious crap Holysox.
I just went to get some wine and thought about how little I care what a God I dont believe in may think of the issue.
This is one of those "start typing then give up in disgust" moments.
If I said what I thought I'd get banned. If there's anything that will get me to the brink of fury its "God will forgive you".

One of the things I remember about the patient coming back for her fourth abortion, ( it was the first time I’d met her), was asking her if there was any way we could help her to change her mind. This was common practice, even as far as the theatre doors. She told me to mind my own business, and kicked me. Then proceeded to kick out at everyone else.
My friend’s daughter had a termination, simply because they were in debt to someone, and couldn’t afford another child because of this. My husband and I offered to pay the debt off, and help with anything we could, to prevent the abortion taking place. She thanked us, but said she just couldn’t accept.
So please don’t say none of us are prepared to help afterwards. I don’t really care that much what people do. Their lives are for them to manage. I certainly don’t judge women who have abortions, just...in the main, don’t agree.
