Just that really

This is the front page of the Mail today. The day after Johnson took part in that terrible interview, when we all know his rather unusual relationship with the truth, when we all know what he's like at PMQs.

Who are the Mail talking about?

Keir Starmer.

We've reached peak absurdity.

I don’t know why anyone would bother to watch this- just seeing him legs akimbo with tie hanging over his crotch was enough to make me queasy. You know he will just bluster, lie and not answer the questions, which is what all the reviews said.

Charleygirl5 Tue 03-May-22 19:18:28

I watched about 10 minutes of it and then fell asleep but the little I saw I was impressed that Susanna was trying to get a word in edgeways and that clown was going on as usual about how marvellous he is. In case he does not know it is not only chicken which has gone up in price.

How in God's name would he know? I would think he would need a map to find their kitchen.

A lying, blustering fool.

Lorraine Kelly's riposte to Johnson's final line of the interview...

grin

I saw a preview of what he might say, which apparently was going to include the words "Ukraine's finest hour" - I did not think I could cope with that. He really does think he is Churchill, the sad little man. Don't know whether he actually said that in the end.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-May-22 17:10:25

Just skim watched the interview, not impressed.

Lorraine Kelly's riposte to Johnson's final line of the interview...

I just watched the clip again. Reid said Elsie's home is in band F so she isn't eligible for the £150 but Johnson wasn't listening.

25Avalon Tue 03-May-22 15:56:37

Good job she doesn’t suffer from travel sickness. There’s always the library I suppose - do you still get free newspapers and computer access? All joking apart the reality is that this is what people are having to do, if not now, certainly when the autumn comes. All cudos to Elsie for finding a cheap way to keep warm. Maybe she could entertain her friends on the ride giving “On the Buses” a total new meaning. Perhaps this is the solution, Boris, apart from re-opening coal mines. Take out a few seats and put some tables on the bus. Maybe a drinks machine?

But also:

*8. What support can I access if I am not eligible for the council tax rebate?
The government has provided all councils in England with funding to provide discretionary support to any household that is in financial need, regardless of council tax band. Each council will develop and publicise eligibility criteria and the claims process for this funding.*

She should have a look. She might be lucky (I agree that's not really the point).

thank you for the YouTube link. Well......Susanne Reid has gone right up in my estimation, she really wouldn't let him do his usual bluster, and the look on her face as she tried to keep control! Frankly anyone who votes Tory on Thursday after watching that needs to have a good long hard look at themselves.

DiamondLily Tue 03-May-22 15:51:59

Those eligible, in bands A-D only:

growstuff Tue 03-May-22 15:51:42

Ah! I missed that. However, if she's receiving Pension Credit, it's possible that she could apply for a discretionary award from her council. Whatever her situation, it's a load of hassle.

Zonne Tue 03-May-22 15:49:19

I believe Elsie is band E - a point Suzanna made, and Johnson ignored - so isn’t eligible for the £150.

growstuff Tue 03-May-22 15:42:58

Same for you Daftbag. If you live in an a-d house, you're eligible.

growstuff Tue 03-May-22 15:41:43

"Elsie" needs to contact her local council if she receives pension credit because she probably is eligible but will have to apply for it.

Daftbag1 Tue 03-May-22 15:19:24

I'd be surprised if Elsie will get the £150 being paid to those paying band a - d council tax. If, as I understand, Elsie is in receipt of Pension credit guarantee, she will not be paying council tax. Those pensioners of us not paying council tax due to being on the lowest income, won't be entitled to this £150 credit. Obviously because we can ride on buses all day to keep warm!

Haven’t managed to see the interview yet.
DD was rushed to hospital first thing, with a sever allergic reaction.
I am on Granny duty until she is discharged, will try and look when I have wrangled the GC into bed.

I hope she is on the mend GG. ?for your daughter.

OakDryad Tue 03-May-22 15:04:08

Of Elsie’s plight, Johnson said she would have a direct cut in her council tax as a result of what we [the Government] are doing.

The £150 being paid to people in lower council tax bands is not a tax cut. A blatant lie ahead of the local elections this week.

The Freedom Pass was introduced by the GLC in 1973.

The usual lies, bluster and hubris from BJ. Well done Susannah for heroically trying to hold him to account....bet he was expecting a nice cosy breakfast chat.
But please....the way he chose to sit, with legs splayed as wide apart as possible, made me want to vomit. Coming in the week when we've been facing the facts of horrendous male misogyny from parliamentarians!

DiamondLily Tue 03-May-22 14:44:50

Susanna Reid asked him about 'Elsie' - a pensioner who rides on buses all day, because she can longer afford to heat her home.

Johnson ignored the actual situation, and reminded Ms Reid that he had introduced Freedom Passes, as London Mayor.....?

Oh well, that's ok then....?

Thank you growstuff for the links. I've just forced myself to watch this and I'm glad I did. The split screen format was inspired. One can see Susanna Reid's mounting and suppressed rage as she pressed Johnson for answers while he did his usual talk-over-the-top-of blustering. Well done Good Morning Britain for showing him up to be utterly out of touch with what is happening in the country he and his party were elected to govern.

Greta Tue 03-May-22 11:45:42

Good to hear again that we are still 'world leading'. And that we enjoy the fastest growing economy in the G7. It must be so because our PM is always honest and truthful...
