How busy are the local election stations...do you feel weary of voting when most are unknown candidates or, you vote for the same old....I had a long list to choose from ....

This loss of some Tory seats is only to be expected mid term, and Conservative voters are bound to want to send a message that although the party has done brilliantly in some areas, they need to buck their ideas up before the general election.
The rise of the Lib Dems in some areas must be hugely disappointing to Labour, despite what they will inevitably say.

In my opinion there is absolutely nothing inspiring about Keir Starmer whatsoever He’s wooden, lack- lustre, and there is nothing about him which shouts PM in the making.
I know I’m not alone in thinking like this.
Likewise I can’t ever see the Lib Dems getting enough support when push comes to shove in the general election.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 06-May-22 13:18:38

Of the seats up for election in our area not one Labour candidate was elected, there were 6 independents and 8 conservatives.

No party has overall control.

volver Fri 06-May-22 13:21:46

In Scotland about 1/3 of the seats have declared and the Tories are currently 4th in terms of numbers of councillors, behind SNP, Labour and the Independents. 20 seats lost so far.

It's all going quite well. wink

Casdon Fri 06-May-22 13:28:27

I wonder what the Tory Party strategy will be for Scotland and Wales if they lose a big proportion of their seats? I just looked at the Scottish latest position, and so far it’s just under a quarter of their total previous seats lost, which is very high. We’ve not had any councils declared yet, but if they lose Monmouthshire there will be no Tory held councils in Wales.

Again, as someone outside the bickering, I don't think he will change his trajectory.

The people he has to persuade outside London seem to be ex-Brexiteers. I don't think the left would have any effect on their views. Isn't it more a case of sitting it out and letting them see just what Brexit has done to the country. Just my "un-party" opinion.

I had the option of three votes but could only manage one and that was with serious difficulty. Toyed with spoiling my paper but can't manage as it feels too much like an act of vandalism even although I know they are scrutinised.

“Sheer joy here in Worthing as
@UKLabour
takes control of the council in a stunning, historic victory.

Remember, five years ago Labour had no councillors here.

Proof that Labour is reconnecting to traditional coastal communities.”

Overall projection

Labour 35%

Tory 30%

Libs 19%

Other 16%

Tories in choppy waters. They have quite severe storms ahead.

Labour certainly now in the running which no body thought would happen in 2019. They have everything to play for. A lot of work ahead.
Lib - best local election results since the massive error of going into coalition.

I can remember when Chaddlewood was green - literally!!
Wall to wall housing and an industrial estate now.

I was expecting a larger swing towards Labour after many years of a Conservative Government along with the controversy surrounding the current cohort.

I was expecting a larger swing towards Labour after many years of a Conservative Government along with the controversy surrounding the current cohort.

The pundits weren’t predicting that to happen though, as most of the councils were already Labour held in England, and they currently hold more of the contested seats than all the other parties added together. What I think is the important message is how many people didn’t vote Tory who did last time, whoever else they did vote for. It’s very interesting times politically for sure.

Zonne Fri 06-May-22 14:48:26

The really interesting election is Northern Ireland. So many ramifications - and not just for NI - if Sinn Fein win.

I wasn’t expecting a good result for Labour.

Largely because they have such an enormous mountain to climb after 2019. That result was a disaster, and one would never expect a political party who did so spectacularly badly to get the sort of support that they have achieved so soon after that disastrous election.

In my West of Scotland ward the Tories got ....(drum roll) 666 votes .Much hilarity about the number as folk here tend to think of tories as spawn of the devil ,now its official with the vote number .lol

Glorianny Fri 06-May-22 15:09:35

paddyann54 I can't decide if that's funny or horrific. It's alright for you lot in Scotland but they're actually in charge down here grin
