Seems that these two have met to discuss the report. No one saying what was in the agenda. So the report is impartial?

Urmstongran

Take a step back and just laugh at the absurdity of it all: the PM is stood holding a glass in the air, toasting someone who’s leaving with people who have all been working together all day anyway! What a load of cobblers all this is.

So why did he lie about to the Commons?

Mamie Mon 23-May-22 18:12:59

Laugh at the people who made the rules merrily breaking them? Ug?
Not in my universe.

vegansrock Mon 23-May-22 18:14:53

It’s the lies and the cover ups which are the worst aspects of this.

OakDryad Mon 23-May-22 18:21:54

On 8 December 2021, Labour MP Catherine West asked: "Will the prime minister tell the House whether there was a party in Downing Street on 13 November [2020]?"

Johnson said: "No - but I am sure that whatever happened, the guidance was followed and the rules were followed at all times."

The photo is of Johnson at a leaving party for Lee Cain his Director of Communications ... on 13 November 2020.

Even the devious Malcolm Tucker, Director of Communications on The Thick of It knew that lying to the House was the most serious breach of the Ministerial Code.

It is not cobblers. It is proof that the Prime Minister lied to Parliament.

And why have you condemned Keir Starmer for being at a similar event when there wasn’t even a lockdown if it’s absurd?

Urmstongran Mon 23-May-22 18:47:15

KS was more about the hypocrisy. To be honest I’m fed up of beergate & partygate now. I wish we could move on.

Urmstongran Mon 23-May-22 18:53:08

The rules were quite clear, you could only meet others if it was "responsibly necessary for work".

It is obvious that the police investigation found Boris, with his red PM box on the table, spent a short "reasonable" time saying three cheers for Lee, and then left. Others stayed longer to finish off the vino and gin and therefore acted "unreasonably" and got fined.

Urmstongran Boris, with his red PM box on the table, spent a short "reasonable" time saying three cheers for Lee, and then left.

..then went to the Commons and lied about it.

Urmstongran Mon 23-May-22 19:12:38

Did he though? Lie.
Or did he think that what he did at a work venue was within the rules? He only got one fine and that was when Carrie presented him with a cake on his 56th birthday. This photo? I bet he didn’t think he broke the guidelines.

Parsley3 Mon 23-May-22 19:17:03

Your unwarranted optimism is worthy of Pangloss himself Ug.

Mamie Mon 23-May-22 19:19:13

Ignorance is no defence. (Especially when you were responsible for the bloody guidelines in the first place).

Urmstongran Mon 23-May-22 19:22:44

This is not news, and the Met have already investigated this event, which Boris has never denied took place.

He gave a short speech of farewell to a colleague in the office and proposed a toast, at some point during the working day. I don't think the PM would have been taking his Red Box to a party!

As far as I understand the rules, saying a formal goodbye to a colleague in an office with the people who normally work with you there was never illegal, and nor was wishing them well with a glass of wine, tea, coffee or coca cola for that matter.

Yes he did. Lie.

Yes he did. In Parliament. On 8th December 2021.

No, usually he leave then lying about the flat for any passing interior designer to look at.

Its got nothing to do with whether it was a party, a get-together or even a wake. People weren't allowed to gather. There is a takeaway on the desk along with party food. It was pre-planned at a time when that is not allowed.

Why are people so keen to defend him? I really don't know why? I would really never have thought that the Police were corrupt but I'm more and more convinced of it every day.

What a state we're in.

Urmstongran Mon 23-May-22 21:01:15

These people worked together. It was an end of day work event.
I bet offices up & down the country had similar ‘all the best’ groupings to say goodbye to work colleagues.
Maybe just with a coffee & a gift?
At the time some nurses were making Tic-Tok videos.
Some citizens were ‘illegally’ protesting on the streets.

volver Mon 23-May-22 21:05:34

I retired in 2020. I went into the office, dumped all my stuff on my desk and shouted upstairs to the HR lady that I was gone. I'd worked there for nearly 15 years. No wine, no expensive takeaway salads, no coffee, no gifts.

We're having a work get together later in the summer, for all of us who lost their jobs during the pandemic.

Don't sit there and tell me everyone was at it. It's insulting.

Urmstongran Mon 23-May-22 21:11:47

This was his place of work. He and his team, were indoors working long hours in close proximity saving our economy and purchasing vaccines. Having a drink during or after the day did no create any additional risk or impact anyone else.

And he has been proven innocent.

Casdon Mon 23-May-22 21:21:34

You do know there’s more to come, don’t you Urmstongran? I still want to know why you think this was okay, but don’t think Starmer attending an after work takeaway meal when there was no lockdown in place is not.

volver Mon 23-May-22 21:22:26

Saving our economy?

That's going well.

Is this Stockholm Syndrome in action? Or is it for a bet?

Zonne Mon 23-May-22 21:23:36

And he has been proven innocent

And yet others who were there have been fined. Go figure.

Urmstongran Mon 23-May-22 21:38:02

The others must have stayed on.
To party and karaoke.
Which is why they’re getting fined.

MayBee70 Mon 23-May-22 21:40:52

Why did they think it was ok to stay on and karaoke? Maybe because the PM had been having ABBA parties in his flat?

Casdon Mon 23-May-22 21:45:32

That was the same night MayBee70. He was ‘interviewing’ the successor apparently, it wasn’t a party at all! Perhaps the person who could mime Dancing Queen best got the job.

Zonne Mon 23-May-22 21:56:42

So breaking the law for ten minutes is fine, but breaking it for longer is not?
