That's a good question
They are luckily small enough that they are not aware of the magnitude of this yet
Retirement is it what you thought it would be?
Sometimes it’s just the small things that press the bruise isn’t it? 😢
Yet another atrocity in the USA thanks to the control the gun lobby has over the laws. When will those in charge realise that the right to bear arms is an outdated concept and start removing these weapons, especially automatic weapons, from the population?
That's a good question

This is more than a weapon issue
In several cases, the shooter displayed examples of intent in social media, friends, etc
In other cases, they were well known risky cases of mental health illness
It is also the lack of seeing the red flags and preventing a tragedy
It is just a sad reflection on American society when the right to bear arms takes precedence over all else, including childrens lives.
No justification for any private citizen to need automatic weapons.
This is not the right to bear arms - let me clarify this
Somebody took advantage of that and took it to extremes
Disclaimer: I do not agree with this right
I don't think arming teachers would be a good idea, that would make them the first targets and leave the children without adults to try to usher them to safety.
If Americans insist on keeping the outdated right to bear arms then they should raise the age at which guns can be bought and ban the selling of anything other than hand guns - why does any civilian need an assault rifle?
Perhaps pictures of those poor children should be displayed at the NRA meeting due to take place shortly!
What an utter tragedy - the desperation of those mothers running to the school, and wondering whether their child is dead or alive ?
While on the subject of desperation, did anyone see the clip of that little boy who fell down a drain, while talking a walk? You could see her desperation, when she threw the manhole cover aside and jumped in to save her son….?

It’s such a hard road to walk when your DC are older. My GC are eight and 12, the younger one prone to anxiety anyway. I feel so sorry for my son and daughter-in-law in not being able to reassure their children that they’ll be safe at school.
I’m also baffled by the pro-gun lobby - do none of them have a family? Do they never feel a frisson of fear when their children set off for school the day after a massacre such as this? Or do they value their guns above their children? Or live in Cloud Cuckoo Land, that it won’t happen to them?

Yes I did see the little child falling down the manhole. Terrifying. It just gave way and he disappeared. I shall never step on a manhole cover again.
SueDomin You would imagine every parent would be anti-gun and living in constant terror. But the gun lobby must be parents themselves, at least half of them.
that right to bear arms relates to a well-ordered militia.
so even with the law as it stands, the 2nd amendment, it could be interpreted and enforced much more strongly, which would help to restrict such atrocities.
apart from crime, there is also a vast number of accidental shootings, many of/by children.
I wondered the same thing.
I feel it is a competition - my gun is bigger than your gun, so the gun owner buys a rifle
The bigger gun guy feels "unprotected" and goes for the an upgrade to the rifle....
So, the more arsenal the better and it reinforces their right to "protect themselves"?
“Republicans are working to create a distance between the shooting and gun restrictions- pushing instead for armed teachers and administrators as well as greater police presence in schools.”
?
it's the stockade mentality.
where does it end.
doesn't make for a healthy community.
Arming teachers and schoolchildren with guns is the first step on the path to madness.
So very sad but whilst you have the attitude of so many Americans things will never change. They even sell guns to children in nice pretty colours. They are so different from people in the rest of the world but they think they are superior
All of us who were closely or more peripherally affected by the Dunblane tragedy will be grieving again today. There was hope that in the aftermath, changes to gun laws here would also result in changes in other Countries but little has changed. Indeed, in the USA, there seems to be an atrocity every month or so, as if the publicity surrounding one instance, triggers another. Sometimes I despair about humankind.
Freedom is a dangerous word - my freedom stops where yours starts
My American cousin wants to come and live here. She hates so many things about her country and this is her ancestral home. It was her gt grandparents who emigrated from Scotland in about 1880 for that better life..
Don't expect anything to change very much under Biden. Apart from the huge strength of the NRA lobby the USA is a country that thrives on the arms trade. It sells more armaments than any other country in the world. The shooting of its own citizens is just a small part of the numbers of lives it is responsible for taking worldwide. www.forbes.com/sites/williamhartung/2022/03/18/were-1-the-us-government-is-the-worlds-largest-arms-dealer/?sh=176fd80a5bb9
If you manufacture and develop weapons you have to sell them to someone.
Those pictures are truly shocking. What hope is there with people like that? So how do they feel about the little children now killed? They will no doubt say 'guns aren't the problem, it's the crazy people who get hold of them'. They will point out that a car is a lethal weapon if you drive it drunk or drugged. The point is that cars are used for transport by virtually everyone. They are made for getting around. Guns only have one purpose, to kill. Unless you want to kill or be killed why have a gun?
Their gun laws scare me witless. My father is American and I have spent a lot of time in the country. I don't feel safe there anymore. There are far too many people with gums and even a simple disagreement can end in death. I feel so sorry for those poor little children and their teachers but this will happen again and again because Americans love guns.
Guns
Please do not generalize
Not all US residents like guns - dont let a bad apple ruin the crop
