Loud cheers for the Sussexes, loud boos for the Johnson’s

I can now believe that GN is definitely a counter culture?.

Frail Queen looking glamorous at 96 as always.

Good isn’t it?

There’s a time and a place for booing wwm.

TerriBull Sat 04-Jun-22 09:25:38

I can understand for those who don't give a monkeys about some current goings on in the news, it is after all wall to wall Jubilee and Jonny at the moment, personally if I wasn't interested, I'd just switch off. I do that when sporting events such as Wimbledon, football, cricket, rugby, golf whatever are on, or rather leave my husband to what he enjoys, none of those interest me, but appreciate they give many immense pleasure, so why rain on their parade by grouching about the coverage.

I thought it was poor form to boo at people entering or leaving a church, whatever their views on the people in question.

And I thought booers and cheerers can be "hired in" anyway, so not truly representative.

Extraordinary remark!

The difference between ordinary snd extraordinary is that little extra. Nothing to do with "excuse".

Anniebach Sat 04-Jun-22 09:34:04

Booing outside a church is nothing compared to a prime minister who lies, breaks the law, a compulsive adulterer ,
standing in the church reading ‘Philippians 4.8.

And held a party the night before the woman he was paying respect to buried her husband

I'm starting to think people will believe anything that they like, just because the alternative would be too awful for them to comprehend.

The British public wouldn't boo a PM attending church service for the Queen would they? When the Queen wasn't actually present? They wouldn't have the gumption and independent thought to let the worst PM in our history know what they think of him, if they were given the opportunity? Surely the British sense of decorum would win through, and they'd just bite their lips? Well, they must have been paid to do it. ??‍♀️

I agree

Haven't seen it myself as we were at a village party which combined Jubilee celebrations with an eco message.

I agree but wouldn't do it myself.

Now this& is a cause for celebrations - I agree with Anniebach.

And I'd boo Johnson wherever he was, church or no church. Going in there and reading that passage? Hypocrite.

merlotgran Sat 04-Jun-22 09:52:33

I was taught, there’s a time and place etc., so I wouldn’t have booed but I can understand why others seized the opportunity.

WharfedaleGran Sat 04-Jun-22 09:54:03

Regarding the bible reading that That Dreadful Man read, I do wonder whether someone was heaping coals on their enemy’s head? What better way to shine an enormous spotlight on all his failings than to have him read out such a passage, and thereby remind everyone of the precise ways in which he fails? And from his own lips. Genius.

Blossoming Sat 04-Jun-22 09:58:17

Oh my days! I find myself agreeing with both Whitewavemark and Anniebach,

I’m going for a lie down.

I wouldn't boo - I hope. But if anyone deserves it, it is the PM. Well argued Annie.

That crossed my mind as well.

Absolutely agree, Ab.

If I'd been there I would have booed as loudly as I could and no-one would have had to pay me to do it.

Johnson even turning up at the service feels to me like a huge insult to the Queen. A woman who is renowned for being decent, steadfast and honourable.

Hetty58 Sat 04-Jun-22 11:06:57

Spot on Volver - it would all make a good comedy, if it wasn't so serious. I was delighted by the boos. I do like to see people enjoying themselves, though, as around here it is, after all, just any excuse for a party.

loopyloo Sat 04-Jun-22 11:30:18

The important thing is we are allowed to boo! Not arrested and sent to Siberia.

RichmondPark Sat 04-Jun-22 11:41:40

I wish I knew how to get on the books of the Paid to Boo Agency. Will travel locally, have a very loud boo on me and could well use a top up on my pension.

I'm a natural at it. Years of village pantos and howling at Question Time make me experienced for this job. If only it existed.

I don't think this is Britain at its greatest, not in the slightest.

I think its Britain at its most deferential, undignified and easily led.

Me too.

I spotted this photo of Edward and Sophie on their way to the Thanksgiving service........some how Sophie doesn't look particularly happy to see someone or something does she?

They have two teenagers in the car with them, as I recall when ours were teenagers they could strop with us on the way to family do’s and then be all sweetness and smiles when we arrived to the rest of the family.

I think the Queen is wonderful and I love her. However I get irked when I hear people say how hard she has worked. At what? In the past she has opened various buildings, gone abroad to visit various heads of state, entertained foreign ambassadors, and all with the benefit of lovely dinners and cheering crowds. How does that compare with ordinary people working year after year in shops and factories and offices, and sometimes at 2 jobs as my sister in law does as a nurse. All to put bread on the table and heat their homes. Something Her Majesty never has to worry about.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Jun-22 11:57:55

I disagree with you 100% maddyone how can you say that the last two days of Jubilee Celebrations are undignified?

aonk Sat 04-Jun-22 12:00:47

I think it was unacceptable to boo the PM yesterday whatever people’s views on him may be. He was there in his official capacity on a special day when party politics should be set aside. The role would have been the same whichever party was in power and whoever the PM might be.
