".... the assumption that, should Johnson survive such a vote, he is safe for another year. Yet, thanks to those who sought to defenestrate his predecessor, we know that this is not in fact the case. Should the 1922 Committee’s executive decide that another vote should be held, no matter how soon after the first one, then, if its chairman receives enough letters demanding one, it can go ahead."

A reminder that Johnson has been using the "let's change the subject, let's get on with governing" trope for a very long time. The Eddie Mair "You're a nasty piece of work" interview from 2013:

Peter Oborne reminding us of just how many times Johnson has mislead Parliament since he became PM:

I think he will win and then launch a huge charm offensive, hand shaking and grinning everywhere, and before you know it he'll be Good Old Boris again.
After all some of us knew what a complete shit the man was before he was elected. He has a record of bad behaviour and hanging on.

timetogo2016 Mon 06-Jun-22 10:29:44

I will be shocked if he loses.
I can`t see him calling for a GE though,i think the Labour party will be rubbing their hands together.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jun-22 10:29:09

God imagine tomorrow x all the cabinet will be wheeled out telling us to put everything behind us and they have a job to do and they are all rallying behind Johnson, blah, blah, blah.

But let them continue to make fools of themselves, the British public are no longer prepared to believe anything.

His credibility is shot.

I fear he will win, but it could be the beginning of the end for him.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 06-Jun-22 10:24:42

I predict he will win the vote but not by as many votes as he assumed! The vote is secret. He will be wounded but will stumble on, refusing to resign and telling all and sundry that he has a job to do. But he doesn’t actually do his job, does he.?

maddyone Mon 06-Jun-22 10:17:47

After watching various new items this morning it seems that the consensus is he will survive the vote but be wounded, probably mortally.

There will not be a GE.

Do you have a crystal ball?

Esspee Mon 06-Jun-22 09:27:12

If they don’t vote to get rid of him the Conservatives will be annihilated at the next general election.

Daisymae Mon 06-Jun-22 09:26:49

I have written to my MP but not really sure what he will do. He's a senior member and I don't agree with him on anything. Also in a safe seat. I suspect that he will do what's best for him, which is probably supporting the status quo. I think that Johnson will win, but I don't think that he will resign. He probably wouldn't resign if he lost!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jun-22 09:17:10

It is astounding really. 2 years ago he won a huge majority with a large level of goodwill thrown in.

He has squandered the lot on vanity and narcissistic behaviour, that has cost this country very dear indeed.

You must ask yourself the question whether those Tory MPs who voted for him as leader did so knowing full well his serious personality disorder and where it might end, but nevertheless put winning above the country’s welfare.

It's going to be fascinating. Is it known (I have looked but didn't spot it) exactly how many letters have been received? I know the minimum required has been reached but curious to know how many more letters than that, if any, have been received.

MaizieD Mon 06-Jun-22 09:15:15

How many threads are running on this topic? This is the third already..

DiamondLily Mon 06-Jun-22 09:13:36

I know my MP will vote against him - he was one of them who sent in a letter, and made it public.?

Iam64 Mon 06-Jun-22 09:12:03

I expect he will win but, it’s not a good look is it?

NotSpaghetti Mon 06-Jun-22 09:07:56

He will probably win but, I hope, he will be "on the way out".

rubysong Mon 06-Jun-22 09:00:16

I've just emailed my views to my MP. She has been a supporter of BJ and when I wrote to her before (once), she replied saying she did not want any further contact on this subject! I don't suppose who votes against him will be made public but I think we will know if she still supports him.

DiamondLily Mon 06-Jun-22 08:50:21

I don't know. Some pundits think he will go nuclear, but if Tory MPs go ahead with their threatened "vote strike" where they won't support any bills, the country will grind to a halt anyway.

Visgir1 Mon 06-Jun-22 08:47:24

There will not be a GE.

DiamondLily Mon 06-Jun-22 08:35:34

Yes, I think he will have to call a GE if too many Tory MPs withdraw support.

vegansrock Mon 06-Jun-22 08:27:35

The VoC is this evening. I think he’ll grease his way out of this but will be wounded.
