Boris Johnson wins confidence vote by 211 votes to 148
Sir Graham Brady, chair of the Conservative 1922 Committee, says 359 votes were cast. There were no spoilt ballots.

Confidence in Boris Johnson: 211

No confidence in Johnson: 148

That means more than 40% of Tory MPs voted against Johnson.

Well, that wouldn't be too bad!

How to you reconcile investment in infrastructure with a promise to reduce taxation (for some)?

Taxation does not fund Government spending

Lol I know, but Sunak keeps telling us it does, so he's going to be persuaded otherwise? Is he at last going to tell the public how money flow really works?

MSM means men who sleep with men - I assume Urmstongran was using it in that context. If so, it seems very unfair to link people’s sexual preference to their political leanings. Please correct me if I’m wrong!

Aha! I really am naive. I always thought it was "mainstream media". Thanks for enlightening me.

I think it means both now. Could cause much confusiongrin

Absolutely true, GG13, but although this government has 'created' £billions, at no cost,in the last couple of years they, and the MSM are telling the public that it has to be paid back through higher taxation and cutting government spending. And the public are happy to go along with it because Thatcher told them that there was no such thing as 'public money', just taxpayer's money.

Until we get a government that is bold enough to tell the public that state investment grows the economy through the opportunities for sales to the 'state' (because the state has to source goods and services from the private sector and the wages of both state and private sector employees in receipt of state funding are spent into the national economy) then 'austerity' (with its resultant economic depression) could well be the order of the day for a long time.?

I have never seen MSM standing for ‘men who sleep with men’.
And the expression is ‘men who have sex with men’

FannyCornforth Tue 07-Jun-22 10:37:30

Of course it’s Mainstream Media

Me neither. But if you google for "MSM acronym" (yes I know it's not an acronym it's an initialisation) it's the first that comes up.

FannyCornforth Tue 07-Jun-22 10:48:16

Oh really? Madness!

I stand corrected for my misinterpretation of the original comment and have apologised to the poster. However, MSM is used to describe men who have sex with men, in some contexts. Obviously, in this particular context it referred to Mainstream Media. Just shows how important contextual cues are.

Sorry Lizzie, I didn’t mean to sound confrontational.thanks
I was just baffled too!

No problem Fanny I was confused toothanks

Parody Boris

“I would like to apologise for my strange demeanor and the constant sniffing in my interview last night. I can assure you that it was just a touch of hay fever, which I seem to be prone to whenever I snort coke.”

More potential law breaking

CaravanSerai Tue 07-Jun-22 11:38:40

Alistair Campbell, who was tweeting this furiously yesterday, calling for drug tests, needs to be very careful. Opening of today's cabinet meeting, Johnson looked and sounded to me as though he has a cold or hay fever. This kind of allegation added to Lib Dems announcing this morning that they intend tabling a motion of no confidence in Johnson is ill-timed (imo) and is playing straight into Tory hands. Let them implode all on their own.

Slander in my opinion ?Gransnetter taken to court what a headline that would make in MSM.

Then the whole of twitter will also have to be challenged, including a lot of famous names.

Gove has never challenged anyone has he?

No slander if it’s true, but if MSM = Gay then why not say so

Grantanow Tue 07-Jun-22 12:29:21

Johnson is shameless and a lot of Tory MPs lack backbone and bottom. The 148 should all send in fresh no confidence letters to Sir Graham Brady and demand a rule change. And if any of them are threatened with having the Tory Whip removed they should collectively prevent his legislation in the Commons. He must go.

Amalegra Tue 07-Jun-22 12:32:31

All the discord and fractious Party politics are leading to a country groaning under their weight! Quite apart from the cost of living crisis! I would think Mr. Putin is rubbing his hands with glee, following on from the fiasco that is the current state of affairs in the EU (thanks, France, Germany, Hungary, Turkey! ) and the ongoing Democrat vs Republican debacle in the USA.

If they want to commit political suicide it only takes 40 or so to vote legislation down, my guess is that very few are prepared to do that.

Aepgirl Tue 07-Jun-22 12:47:32

60% voted ‘confidence’ which is a sure sign that the PM is doing the right thing. The 40% against are in great danger of losing their very highly paid jobs - and I hope they do. So disloyal.

volver Tue 07-Jun-22 12:49:12

Right. You know that most of the 60% are the ones in the high paid jobs, right? And that some of them resigned to vote against Johnson because they thought that was the right thing to do?

volver Tue 07-Jun-22 12:50:01

Too many "Rights". Just like the Tories. ?

60% voted 'confidence' which is a sure sign that they worried about the danger of losing their very highly paid jobs. The 40% against despite being in great danger of losing their very highly paid jobs. So loyal (to us, not the lying narcissist in no 10)
