Boris Johnson wins confidence vote by 211 votes to 148
Sir Graham Brady, chair of the Conservative 1922 Committee, says 359 votes were cast. There were no spoilt ballots.

Confidence in Boris Johnson: 211

No confidence in Johnson: 148

That means more than 40% of Tory MPs voted against Johnson.

If they wanted to improve things they would make the rule up to 40% of the new build homes be given over to social housing- because councils aren't building much either, if at all- nowadays hardly anyone can afford to buy and when bills rise again in october no one will be buying houses (only those already loaded!) especially not the young people who can't get a foothold on the property ladder already! Like i said- moving backwards, not forwards!

Just 4 Tory MPs in chamber for debate on standards in public life

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:27:44

Please God let's not keep them in till 2024!! ?

Leolady73 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:32:08

Boris Johnson is dangerous - how do we know he represents our country, and not just himself, when he lies and has no regard for the law! We deserve better!!

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:32:53

We are not 'allowed' to have standards, according to conservative party- thats why they're doing away with the 25% new built social homes rule- and why they are forcing disabled people off legacy benefits onto UC- so they can cut their money (drastically in some cases) and then cut their living standards!

We are now down to 3 Tory backbenchers in chamber for standards debate

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:36:08

Maybe they hope that if we the public have to accept lower standards in general we will accept the PM and rest of the conservative party with their own low standards as well???

polly123 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:38:30

Andrew Mitchell's comment about the party being medieval in it's management and character seemed about right to me.

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:39:25

RichmondPark- is that for members of the publics standards?- or to determine MP's standards for how they behave in public??

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:40:57

I agree with polly123- as i said- we are moving backwards- not forwards.

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:43:07

I also agree with Leolady73- and Hell yes we deserve better!!!

luluaugust Tue 07-Jun-22 14:44:34

Boris may be self interested but surely the 148 are selfless as they are almost certainly about to be voted out of very lucrative jobs if they carry on. The interviews with the general public are interesting as many of them are saying Boris has made some mistakes but we are all human and make mistakes. They also couldn't think of anyone else they wanted to take over from him. He seems to be seen as a damaged but relatable human being!. Certainly no great call for Labour to take over.

4allweknow Tue 07-Jun-22 14:46:04

He still has the misleading Parliament saga to endure though not hopeful he will acknowledge any negative outcome from that, just offer another apology.

RichmondPark Tue 07-Jun-22 14:47:56

Nannan2 - it's the latter.

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:50:54

Lets face it- BJ does not behave correctly in public or out- remember how they heaved up the price of 'anything' that might make Brits fat to deter us- fizzy drinks, takaways- oh and who could forget the laughable 'pasty tax'? And then came the pics of BJ hurrying home with a takeaway bag in his hand-let alone how he looks like he's ballooning in weight by the week- so yes its always been 'one rule for us and a different one for them' so we should not have been surprised to find out about the parties really! ??

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:53:55

So there's only 3 mp's interested in how they should behave (better) in public then? The rest dont care??

Chinesecrested Tue 07-Jun-22 14:59:48

I'm surprised he doesn't just go. He could get a much better paid job in industry, maybe do some after dinner speaking and make a fortune! And with less stress, more respect, and he'd enjoy himself more.

Respect?

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 15:02:30

Just offering more apologies is not good enough though is it? And there's many more were very angry about his parties- not just meekly said we all make mistakes- people who have standards- and people who had relatives die alone while the pm & his pals partied! And even again when Prince Phillip passed away! Oh, & if he 'couldn't remember' doing any of that was that because he was so drunk then maybe???

MayBee70 Tue 07-Jun-22 15:06:13

Why is that cabinet meeting being televised over and over again. It’s like a party political broadcast.

Anniel Tue 07-Jun-22 15:09:53

Not having the strength to read all posts, i think they did not get rid of BJ because there is nobody who supports Brexit that stands out. I wish B would stop listening to his wife who is not elected. If he was sensible he would have stayed with Marina. I note that the entire media is after his scalp with Beff Rigby leading. I am waiting for the Durham police to tell us Sir Keir holding up his beer and some who were there saying they had their curry snd beers after work finished will still result in Sir K being innocent because the Crime Commissioner for the area was present. I wonder what the UK electorate will think of that?
I wish we did have someone to replace Boris. Penny Mordaunt might be OK. Rishi is too rich,Liz Truss is not that popular. My son favours Ben Wallace but i am not sure which one is best. Looking at both sides of the house i dont see any outstanding members who would be great leaders.

Growstuff asked PS. Has anybody seen any building work on any of those 40 hospitals?

Well yes - today I saw in the local paper that the foundation stone was laid for a whole new wing on our regional hospital. It has been prioritised/fast tracked to deal with the backlog of surgical operations (mostly knee and hip replacements) which has arisen because of the pandemic. It will contain two wards, rehab facilities and two theaters.

OOps sorry, this is in Scotland under an SNP/Green Government and has nothing to do with Boris's promised 40 new hospitals.

Great! PAH in Harlow is one of the six hospitals which has been earmarked for a rebuild. The finance and detailed plans were already in place, even though it was included in the 40 new hospitals. Hopefully, work will start before it falls down.

It isn’t getting any better is it?

“Boris Johnson's spokesman says the Prime Minister will transform the NHS into "a blockbuster health care system in the age of Netflix."

Asked repeatedly to explain what this means, Johnson's spokesman is unable to say which features of Netflix he believes the NHS should imitate.”

Michael Gove is currently trying to reverse the rule that 25% of new build housing is given over to social housing so that no one on low incomes or benefits gets a chance to get a decent new house! (Only the rich can get 'dibs' who can afford to buy one) I read that the other week- no wonder he is keeping a low profile!

It never was social housing - it was affordable housing. You should look at the criteria for "affordable". People on anything other than relatively high incomes couldn't afford them. That's why the Right to Buy bribe could be popular.

Nothing more than a hyperbolic soundbite!

Maybe a Pay as you Go service or a subscription?
