In response to a Home Office immigration raid, with the power of humanity and solidarity, the people of Peckham, SE15, mobilised, fought back and got their neighbour released.

This is people power - so beautiful to see

Sending humanbeings to another cpuntry against their will is better than people trafficking?

Sounds like slavery to me

choughdancer Sat 11-Jun-22 20:51:24

Zonne

Refugees are not illegal immigrants.

The way to stop traffickers (and reduce even further the number of illegal immigrants crossing the channel) is to open legal routes with appropriate vetting elsewhere, particularly in refugee camps outwith Europe.

The way to reduce the cost of detaining legal refugees is to allow them to work.

But no, Patel and her ilk just have to blow their dog whistle instead. And, look at that, it works.

Well said.

Denmark started talks with Rwanda last year Re migrants.
Not Sweden.

You think so?

Remember this case? I imagine you were cheering when the passengers managed to get Yaqub Ahmed taken off the plane. Let him go they chanted.

He was a rapist. He'd raped a 16 year old girl. It was a gang rape.

People power beautiful to see? Pathetic.

If Britain suddenly became a really bad place to live, whether because of war, disease, famine, climate change or whatever, while my immediate reaction would be to flee to the nearest safe country, having done that, I might have many good reasons for then trying to make my way to another country, just like those people trying to get to Britain might have.

We are all citizens of the world. Stop bring so bloody small-minded, territorial and selfish!

I undestand there is no where and no way to claim asylum before turning up on our shores, they have to get here first, and then claim from here. So no person can be illegal until after a claim is denied.
Refugees can choose where they want to go, many speak English, or have connections here. Its hard enough to begin life in a new country but made worse where you dont speak the language fluently.
Putting aside the fact that because for historic reasons the world speaks English, if we were unlucky enough to be fleeing this country, we would choose somewhere to go where they did. We take very few in comparison to other countries, who welcome them but the majority of refugees seek refuge in neighbouring, poor countries which can ill afford it.
How would those ex pats, aka immigrants, who choose to live in other countries feel if they were as vilified. These are people, like us. Just not as lucky.

Well said.

Can one person be a gang rapist?

I think the EU could tell us a thing or two about slavery.
This article is from a reputable source: Al Jazeera.

It just shows what a god damned awful mess Patel is making if this whole issue.

The British people are clearly not going to tolerate the transportation of asylum seekers and will make their feelings felt at every opportunity.

Unfortunately Patel has completely clouded the issue by her actions.

Can one person be a gang rapist?

Of course he can, he was part of a gang that gang raped a teenage girl.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 21:11:12

It occurs to me that if Brexit hadn’t happened we wouldn’t be in this mess.

Thoughts and prayers with the bigots and racists who are incandescent that Brexit hasn’t stopped them from being called out for being bigots and racists.
It hasn’t stopped people seeking asylum here either. And nor will it.

Rage your stony hearts out. We will never let you win.

Zoejory Sat 11-Jun-22 21:25:05

Who is Sarah Murphy?

I'm not sure we can blame Brexit or Patel for this. There is a problem world wide. USA is trying to tackle it. Many European nations are in a similar situation.

It's wrong to suggest that people are racists or bigots if they try to tackle the situation. Would you call Biden a racist and a bigot?

I am totally against the Rwanda idea. However I don't know what. the answer is.

But calling up people in an area to go and stop an arrest/deportation is totally wrong.

Of course we can! It is Patels policies or rather Johnson’s government policies enthusiastically supported by Patel that is causing this mess.

And none of this would be happening pre-Brexit because we had a working relationship with France. Johnson broke that to pieces.

Yes we need to monitor those seeking asylum, yes it needs to be done in an ordered and humane fashion not this appalling transportation of human misery.

I have a neighbour who is from Zimbabwe - a family man, a kind and upright citizen. If Patel’s stormtroopers came to take him away I would be out there just like those folk in London.

Goodness, this is getting silly now.
I’m sure most of us know kind, black family orientated neighbours.
I do too. His name is Barry. I’ve known him for 40 years. He’s lovely. He’s almost 80 now.

But he didn’t come over to this country illegally. Or outstay his visa.

The Police have laws to uphold. Otherwise we might as well have no laws. Simple.

It’s a slippery slope and we cheer on these activist actions at our peril.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 22:02:19

But you see some Barry’s of this world have been forcibly transported back to Jamaica and other countries.

None of these people are safe.

Ask the Windrush folk and their children.

Urmstongran Sat 11-Jun-22 22:04:21

Hyperbolic nonsense.

Urmstongran Sat 11-Jun-22 22:04:52

Peckham vs Rwanda, it's a close call.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 22:06:37

How many deaths was the Mail responsible for by the propaganda they adopted. They are still at it today. What a disgusting rag.

Hyperbolic nonsense.

Are you saying it hasn’t happened?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 22:08:46

Actually I’m out of this, as it is leaving me with a very nasty taste in my mouth.

Urmstongran Sat 11-Jun-22 22:10:43

Try Rennies? It might be reflux, from bile.
Hope it eases.
