Up pops partygate again as Lord Geist resigns after admitting when under pressure from the standards committee that Johnson’s conduct fell far short of that expected from a British prime minister, and that Johnson had broken the ministerial code which includes an overarching duty to act in accordance with the law.

Geist stated that he was “sick of being lied to and his portrayal as a “patsy” and after what a friend of Geildt said was “a long night of the soul” Geildt sent a “strongly worded plan letter to Johnson.

Lord Geidt clarifies that his resignation was not over steel tariffs.

This means number 10 might have been economical with the truth, again.

So why did he resign?

I suspect he just woke up one morning and thought "I can't any longer try to advise this appallingly dishonest and unethical PM on ethics. He will never be anything other than self serving. His only interest is in fooling enough of the voters to stay in power. He is as blatantly unethical as anyone I have ever met and so my position is untenable. My title of "ethics advisor" to this charlatan is a total embarrassment.

No doubt there is something half under the carpet. After all we've come to expect some sort of mis doing whenever Johnson goes off somewhere. Why did he go to ~Ukraine .......watch this space.

I suspect that it was one thing after another for Lord Geidt until he could take no more. He was perhaps hanging on to his job hoping for better things but eventually realised that his advice on ethics was not welcomed if it did not agree with what the PM wanted to do. He may well be regretting that he didn’t resign sooner. A nice spin from Johnson to suggest that he wanted to break the ministerial code for the good of our steel workers. However, the public is wising up to his games or should be.
