Why should people be grateful to have a job?
Once upon a time, people could grow their own food, or forage and hunt for it on the land that belonged to all of us. When those who were basically gang leaders took bits of land for themselves, that was broken down, and people were forced to work and fight for them, wear their colours and fly their flags.
Then came enclosures, so all common land became owned by someone, and those foraging or trapping became poachers and were hanged or transported.
All that was left was for people to work for others, or sell their skills as artisans, and that persists today. Some people are able to command higher salaries than others, because of the scarcity of their skills and the necessity of their services. Traditionally, these people have been 'professionals' (basically a form of closed shop) and have enjoyed high status, with people supporting the fact that their earnings are above average. We are realising that transport workers are necessary too. If others join them, maybe those who have assumed that good pay and conditions were theirs by right will realise that others have that right too?
I repeat though - why should people be grateful to have a job?
