I recently started watching GB News and am finding it so interesting. Once you get past the different format to the usual news programmes it is very good. There are so many different views expressed from all political spectrums. I like that contributors are allowed to say their piece and it's then debated. Not just left or right wing views.

I saw something on Facebook about it. It said he beat Eamon Holmes’s and Piers Morgan so the competition was pretty fierce….

I don’t know if there are accurate viewing figures as Farage was trying to explain before he was gagged at the podium.

Well, he would say that, wouldn't he?

MaizieD it was a well orchestrated campaign to encourage people to vote for Farage

Well, there you go, Shinamae. Not a 'straw' at all...

Campaign would have been targeted on Farage supporters and it's in the nature of things that they would rally round to support him.

How many other presenters ran a well orchestrated campaign?

Shinamae Wed 28-Jun-23 10:24:51

Ww2 the great British public voted. Who else?

But they would only be the ones who'd actually watched his show.
In view of the viewing figures that Casdon has posted I suspect a well orchestrated campaign to up the votes.
Probably no presenters on other channels are that desperate.

Wow…😂😂
Where are those straws? 😁

ronib Wed 28-Jun-23 10:23:46

MaizieD it was a well orchestrated campaign to encourage people to vote for Farage but Farage didn’t physically stand behind anyone to push the voting button. A lot of people actually like Farage.

Possibly those who weren’t interested didn’t bother to vote. That’s what usually happens.

Ww2 the great British public voted on the Tric award website. Some report that it kept crashing if Nigel was selected for a vote. That’s democracy for you!

How did they vote?

FannyCornforth Wed 28-Jun-23 09:40:17

Choice, no idea where Chou came from 🤷‍♀️

FannyCornforth Wed 28-Jun-23 09:39:28

Regarding Farage’s award.
It may well be a case of having an extremely loyal and vocal fan base.
I’ve seen it happen before.

The Radio Times had a competition for Britain’s favourite radio voice, and Steve Allen (of LBC) won the listeners Chou award, due to his fans making sure that he won, voting multiple times and putting it about on social media etc

Nigel Farage railed about this on stage when accepting his award. Apparently BARB which is responsible for measuring viewing figures is skewed.

Makes sense because the tv awards are voted for by the public and they won by some margin apparently.

FannyCornforth Wed 28-Jun-23 07:55:58

The TRIC awards.
Never heard of them previously
And I’m a bit of a speech radio geek

I’ve already pointed this out, GBNews is NOT the most popular
TV news channel in the UK.

‘GB News' linear TV audience is a third of that of BBC News
Monthly reach, May 2023
Talk TV
1.8m
GB News
3.4m
Sky News
8.7m
BBC News
10.7m’

Source: Press Gazette

(I don’t know why ITV News isn’t included, as I copied and pasted - but I know it is between the BBC and the Sky ratings).

Oh, what awards are being celebrated?

Yesterday they won at the national TV awards. Voted best breakfast show for one. Nigel Farage actually won best presenter and they have now got higher viewing figures than the major channels.

I was surprised you didn’t know but I suppose the other channels aren’t going to highlight it.

Joseann Wed 28-Jun-23 07:30:33

My DH watches it, so I have seen it for myself, mainly late evening.
I think it is shouty because presenters are allowed to feel passionate, frustrated or cross themselves. However, I think they are never shouty at each other, but respectful towards their guests.
There's one young Leftie man on the Dan Wootton programme who comes back for more ribbing week in week out, but they have a balanced discussion and I actually think they are all quite good friends underneath.

Have they got very good ratings, or something?
I think that I saw something recently

I have given it a go.

It is the equivalent of the DM in broadcast form, so will be popular with people who like that sort of entertainment.

Not for me though. I find it beyond irritating and why do they all get so excited and shouty? Just like red top headlines I guess

Celebrating winning awards and thumbing their noses at those that gave them no chance that’s why! grin

Well done Nigel Farage! after a very short time as a Presenter he makes it look effortless. He is relaxed and professional with all his guests and I have never seen him lost for words. Once a week he has a guest on where they have a drink together. It might be a pop star, a businessperson, a sportsperson or just a well known person but whoever it is he is able to draw out the best in them and they open up to him and discuss all manner of things. He deserves the award.

I’m pleased that someone understood what I meant 😄
Just incase anyone is confused as to my views on GBNews, I’ve watched it from the beginning as I followed Simon McCoy.
I loved his humour and irrelevance of most political stuff when he was a bbc presenter.

I think what some of us are trying to say, is: the perception on here seems to be that everyone who appears on GBNews is to the right of Attilla the hun, when they’re not.

Well I don't know who you're referring to MS, this thread or GN as a whole?
But I would definitely judge the heckling at the awards as coming from people who had mis judged the channel in exactly the way you described.
