Live now - resignation speech

seadragon Fri 08-Jul-22 11:53:24

I don't understand why they don't expel Mr Johnson from the Conservative party given the Supreme Court's judgement that proroguing parliament was unlawful; he was fined for breaking his own Covid laws; he was planning the breach terms of the Brexit deal relating to Northern Ireland etc etc. Others have been expelled for less: Brexit showdown: Who were Tory rebels who defied Boris Johnson?https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-49563357

Well I for one am sorry to see Boris go, or should I say was forced out, and as someone said earlier "better the devil you know". Quite agree with you Dillonsgranma about Starmer and his deputy, she is known as "gobby" in our house, perish the thought of those two ever being in charge.

kevincharley Fri 08-Jul-22 11:59:32

Only the names have changed.

It's only going to be another tory PM, not Starmer.
Don't panic.

Growing0ldDisgracefully Fri 08-Jul-22 12:01:11

No, sorry Farnorth, I can't agree with the Downing Street cat as the next PM. He hasn't done his job properly either - he has not rid No 10 of the rats infesting it!

kevincharley Fri 08-Jul-22 12:02:23

DillytheGardener you may be the poorest judge of character in the country!

kevincharley Fri 08-Jul-22 12:16:12

Calendargirl

Well, he read it out well.

No bumbling and erring.

Sounded very confident.

(His insides must have been like jelly).

I think his insides were more a seething mass of bile and bitterness.

Johnson says he ^was elected with the biggest majority since 1987 and the biggest share of the vote since 1979. He is proud of what he has done, he says. He mentions Brexit and getting the country through the pandemic and delivering the fastest vaccine rollout in Europe. And Britian has led the way in supporting Ukraine, he says^

Yes because people were desperate to keep Corbyn out of No.10!

polly123 Fri 08-Jul-22 12:32:22

A self congratulatory and self serving 'resignation' speech with no reference to the real reason he got removed. Just another lie really, are we surprised? Such a waste of opportunity and a charismatic persona.

Would suggest Gransnetters watch Question Time on BBC 1 last night, to get a really accurate description of Johnson from one who has known him for many years, Alistair Campbell.
Alistair was brilliant in it and I wanted to hear more from him, although understand that Fiona Bruce needed to give everyone a fair hearing. Johnson needs to go right now and I agree with the person who said Theresa May would be a good person to care-take whilst they choose a new leader. It is dangerous for him to be present whilst they choose. He also shouldn't be taking anymore decisions, he has done enough damage to our beautiful country already and is the very worse prime minister we have ever had the misfortune to have. Alistair Campbell made a very good point that it is often our media that presents as newspapers for the working people, but the only one we can really trust to tell the truth is The Guardian. We need to wake up to this, otherwise it's going to happen all over again.

Susie3042 what a nasty view you have posted .

Iam64 Fri 08-Jul-22 12:51:23

Susie3042- disgusting post
It’s also bigoted and inaccurate

I shall miss him , hope he can push forward with shipping these illegal immigrants bleeding our country dry, 5 million a day would be better spent on people who have paid into our country and could do with our help, instead of arriving and have it all laid out on a plate

Revolting sentiments. I know who I'd choose to stay in this country if it was a choice between someone needing shelter and help or you.

Casdon Fri 08-Jul-22 13:02:41

Goodness me Susie3042 you’ve really shown your true colours there. I hope nobody reports your post so everybody can see your view.

Riverwalk Fri 08-Jul-22 13:03:18

What will you miss about him? Susie3042

Just in case you don't know, when he was Mayor of London he advocated an amnesty for illegal immigrants... knowing how essential immigrants are to help grow an economy.

Have a nice day smile

Rosina Fri 08-Jul-22 13:03:32

Daisend1 of course you will be shot down in flames - if you don't agree with the Boris Bashers your sanity will be questioned, as there is no room with some posters for anyone who takes a more moderate view.

Yes because people were desperate to keep Corbyn out of No.10!

They voted for him because they wanted a brexit which was based on the lies that Johnson had fed them. Because Johnson’s lies started long before he became PM.

Moderate ??!

In place until October-plenty of time for more scandal and cock ups

When I joined GN I thought that there might be lots of nice, reasonable people on it! That was an error - I have seldom encountered a nastier, more self-righteous, humourless bunch. BJ may have done some bad things, but he has had more to contend with than most PMs - Brexit, Covid (both the pandemic and getting it personally) and then Ukraine. I can't wait to read the stream of vitriol that will undoubtedly come my way now!

Oh don’t be too worried - your heroine Patel is putting up for leader - you must hope she gets in.

Regardless of the fact that she is seen as a security risk by having secret talks with the Israelis - no one has ever found out what they were about - leaving behind her security minders and for which she got the sack.

Later if course she was found guilty of amongst other nasties - bullying her staffs - for which she has never paid any penalty.

Just the sort of person I’m sure that you would like as the next Tory leader.
