Live now - resignation speech

DillytheGardener Thu 07-Jul-22 20:02:59

Riverwalk this made me laugh too! He has everything going for him, Paddington Bear adjacent, self deprecating, funny, took on the despicable tabloids, I really rather like him.

Lucca Thu 07-Jul-22 20:30:09

TwiceAsNice

He did get brexit some others didn’t. I think they all cocked up the pandemic and labour would have us still locked up wearing a mask! He is flawed on a lot of things( as was Tony Blair) but I fear for Ukraine now he’s gone because the rest of Europe couldn’t care less. Be careful what you wish for it’s just going to get worse. Starmer doesn’t stand up for anything!

Good heavens what nonsense

Lucca Thu 07-Jul-22 20:30:58

Absolutely

Here's the hot news

Of course they do!
And of course we will, as will other countries.

Hot news!

Sorry, there's another contender:
HM promised him

M0nica Thu 07-Jul-22 20:53:28

I'll ask again. what is the evidence that the rest of Europe couldn't care less.

Speak to Finland,Sweden until now determinedly neutral, now joining NATO, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland. Ask them how much they care about Ukraine. Germany is very concerned as is France. NATO is united in its determination to support Ukraine and then, of course, there is the USA.

Callistemon21 Thu 07-Jul-22 20:56:33

I quoted the wrong post, sorry M0nica, I meant to quote yours.

Boris failed for the reason Charles Kennedy's career collapsed. And that is personal failings, In Kennedy's case the demon drink for Boris the fact that he is careless and casual and his instinct is to lie his way out of trouble.

I heard an interview with an Irish diplomat involved in the negotiations over the Northern Irish protocol. He said quite calmly and without emotion, that the big difficulty in solving this problem was because the Irish could not trust a word our Prime Minister said and until they could negotiate with a trustworthy leader in this country, nothing would move forward.

The more times I hear the speech the angrier I get.

I feel the same MayBee70.
Grumppa’s post is spot on imo. Johnson is dead in the water, we need the senior Conservatives to move quickly to replace him with a caretaker whilst an efficient speedy leadership contest takes place

I’ve heard Johnson tell lies in situations when he didn’t actually need to say anything. It’s as if he can’t help himself. Like a sort of vocal Dr Strangelove.

plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

Same Prime Minister, choosing whosoever he wants for his Cabinet.

pieinthesky Thu 07-Jul-22 22:08:41

As it says in the song “If you’ve gotta go you’d better go now, go now”. So just go Boris!

Iam64 Thu 07-Jul-22 22:08:51

Exactly MayBee70. It’s a personality flaw. Or is it a personality disorder

Callistemon21 Thu 07-Jul-22 22:10:13

Did I hear that correctly?
Christopher Chope telling us that we will rue this day

MayBee70 Thu 07-Jul-22 22:14:06

Was it Chope or Bone? ( I get them mixed up: they both talk rubbish and remind me of characters out of Gormenghast).

Callistemon21 Thu 07-Jul-22 22:16:43

Christopher Chope?

Casdon Thu 07-Jul-22 22:20:19

Chope and Bone - or Crabbe and Goyle. Is there a difference?

Why is a mummy stroking her baby's head nauseous? That's a bit of a mean comment.

I agree, nasty and uncalled for.

Cossy Fri 08-Jul-22 11:32:35

Sorry to upset any Johnson fans here, I thought his speech was totally self serving, no humility, no apology and no actual mention of the word resign. Thought it summed up our self serving, lying and nauseating PM and he should go now, let his deputy step in until the leadership contest is complete.

grandtanteJE65 Fri 08-Jul-22 11:39:16

Oldnproud

Did anyone hear the word 'resign'. Did anyone hear any indication of humility whatsoever, or any indication of his understanding why he's now in this position?
Only he could continue to big himself up in such a statement. Delusional to the bitter end!

Typical Johnson waffle. I doubt the man knows he has done wrong.

Actually, Oldnproud, Donald Trump would ( and did) do much the same, and I suspect if Putin lives to be superseded he will too.

Dillonsgranma Fri 08-Jul-22 11:43:01

Well I’d much rather have Boris than Keir starmer ! And that awful woman who is his deputy. She is so awful it’s almost unbelievable!

Grantanow Fri 08-Jul-22 11:44:30

Completely narcissistic and shameless! Thank God he is going. The worst PM we have ever had and not to be compared with Blair (whose majorities were substantial even after Iraq) or his Tory predecessors.

It’s not a bit mean, it’s it’s absolutely horrible. On a site for grandmas too!
