Was Boris Johnson bullied into resigning?

I was chatting with a friend at the weekend and she suddenly said - "They were horrible to him".
Suddenly, we hadn't been discussing the subject.
I was so puzzled, said I didn't want to talk about it. We could have fallen out.
Explains why he still has so much support in the country.

That seems quite humble to me.

Humble indeed grin

He may have recognised reality, for a change, though.

What these candidates are promising is pie in the sky - undeliverable - as was Johnsons pledges about levelling up and having a high wage economy, controlling our borders etc etc All just soundbites with no plan.

I suppose you could say that he was hustled out of the door, but that is very different from bullying. And you could also say that the hustling happened because he had overstepped the mark and refused to recognise it.

I think it silly and rather pointless to say that all politicians, lie, or are stupid or self serving. Most politicians in all parties are honest and hard working.

An endorsement from Boris would undoubtedly spoil anyone's chances so that's not a lie anyway.

CatsCatsCats Mon 11-Jul-22 15:20:11

I've no idea whether it's true as I happen to believe that all politicians lie or, at the very least, go back on their word.

But I'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt. It did sound plausible, and he looked pretty weary when he was saying it.

I don't know. Now he's saying that he won't endorse anybody for the post of PM as he doesn't want to spoil their chances. That seems quite humble to me.

???.

He has spent all of his adult life lying.

Do you honestly think that statement is true!

Oh, jeez. The arch liar lies again and you all believe him. shock

No 10 are briefing like fury against Sunak. And, no doubt the others...

Me too Cats.

His sister has been emotionally defending him on her radio slot, and is very sad as Boris wanted to be King of the World, from the age of 2.?

grin
Oh well, we better keep him then so as not to disappoint the wee soul.

Psst, Sis, he's not 2 anymore.

Urmstongran Mon 11-Jul-22 14:47:08

I totally agree with you Smileless.

Mind you so far then the candidates want to improve things like defence, NHS, education, pensions etc and cut taxes. I wonder why nobody's tried that before.

When DH and I were first together, we had polar opposite political views. He was very to the right, I was very to the left.

We had some "interesting and lively" debates lol ?

But, happy days, we are both more centrist now, and both loathe Johnson, so peace reigns. ?

Smileless2012 Mon 11-Jul-22 14:27:55

Politics is often a subject best avoided with family and friends if their's differs to your own Urmstongran.

Aveline Mon 11-Jul-22 14:23:40

He needed to be got rid of. All PMs fail eventually. Politics is no place for sissies.

Urmstongran Mon 11-Jul-22 14:22:39

My walk this morning was with a dear friend who is quite definitely a Labour supporter, hates the Tories with a passion and voted Remain. We respect one another’s political views and just avoid talking about them. There’s so much else friends can chat about whilst enjoying one another’s company I find.

You can't bully a lying bully. He was the author of his own misfortune.

His sister has been emotionally defending him on her radio slot, and is very sad as Boris wanted to be King of the World, from the age of 2.?.

You'd need a heart of stone not to laugh...?

Blinko Mon 11-Jul-22 14:17:11

As for integrity, Theresa May had it. This man doesn’t.

Blinko Mon 11-Jul-22 14:16:17

I find it incredible that even now, people cannot see what the man is like. I have all but fallen out with someone who has been a friend for years over this.

She apparently thinks ‘no one but Boris’ and I think ‘anyone but Boris’. We’re both of the same stripe politically, ie. Remainders and normally Labour voters.

Such a divisive influence.

westendgirl Mon 11-Jul-22 14:15:54

Actually he's still there !

Casdon Mon 11-Jul-22 14:12:34

As with Macbeth, he is the master of his own downfall. I hope Teresa May had a glass of champagne and a wry smile.

Oldnproud Mon 11-Jul-22 14:10:50

I do not think for one minute that Boris was bullied, or would ever allow himself to be bullied.

He was simply given no choice. That's not the same thing at all.
Millions of petulant children every day are made by to things that they do not want to do, but that are essential for either their own or other people's well-being. That's what happened to Boris - the grown-ups around him took charge. It's not bullying.

Urmstongran Mon 11-Jul-22 14:07:26

I don’t think he was bullied. But I do think he’s been the victim of a witch-hunt and once divisions became cracks, there as no chance for him. All the chancers joined the bandwagon once they saw opportunity. Poor Boris. I think he’s been treated very shabbily.

Yes I do think he was bullied, and no I do not think he is a bully. Flawed yes, but a fighter and courageous.
One of his faults was being too loyal, witness Dominic Cummings, Owen Paterson and others; bad judgements that led to his downfall.
Margaret Thatcher was pressured, and resigned with grace; we got John Major, who paved the way for T.Blair, who isn't dead yet.

Well said.

Well put nanna8.

Good riddance to him.

That defiant resignation speech blaming everyone but himself for his lies and failures of judgment was exactly what was to be expected from such an arrogant person.
