Sir Graham Brady has just announced them. Wonder who will win? First voting tomorrow.

Liz Truss didn’t beat about the bush, as every other mp did, about what a woman was. When Nick Farrari asked her what she thought about the university student who got cancelled for saying women had vaginas she just answered. ‘ Women do have vaginas Nick.’ You wouldn’t think that was radical would you except it was the same week that Starmer said that some men had cervixes.
And yes she did wave a stick at Putin good for her.
And yes she was annoyed when she got to Oxford to find her new peer group no brighter than the Leeds sixth form she had left except they wouldn’t get to Oxford like the Oxford intake as they were all privately educated. That’s what made her angry.
Rishi Sinai was a disaster on Today this morning.
Penny mordaunt was angry when the Lords overturned the change in language from ‘birthing people’ back to ‘mother’. She shouted at the dispatch box ‘Transwomen are women’ . Now she’s desperately trying to back pedal. Not at all to be trusted for safe spaces for girls and vulnerable women.

Yes, I hope they vote to go with Truss. She will cock it all up the fastest - her slogan should be Go under the bus with Truss.

On the education front Liz Truss was certainly no lightweight and inexperienced. I remember her advocating a new look at the learning of Maths in schools, and her strong belief in the importance of persistence - that every child can achieve.
She was also an advocate for the learning of foreign languages, particularly Mandarin.
And though I have never said so here before, another reason why I like her is because she was against the idea of VAT being added to private school fees.

I thought there was a Suella in the mix.
Short for Sue Ellen, apparently.

I know people would say it would be unfair, but they might as well have got rid of her yesterday.

Kyliemay Thu 14-Jul-22 15:44:48

Penny for your thoughts! A clean slate, as they say, No taint of Boris.

JenniferEccles Thu 14-Jul-22 15:45:07

I’m pleased she’s out. She never looked Prime Minister material.

Tinydancer Thu 14-Jul-22 15:49:33

Tax cuts when we have high inflation are pointless as the cuts will be eaten up by the inflation. None of them are suitable to be PM. On a phone in show yesterday evening people said they would vote for Mourdant because she was good looking for heavens sake. Reluctantly Sunak would get my vote only because he is slightly more financially literate than the others.

coastalgran Thu 14-Jul-22 16:13:00

What a bunch of no-hopers, maybe that is what Boris is banking on, that they will continue to slag each other off and fight like cats in a bag and he will still be in No10 in September.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 14-Jul-22 16:56:37

So who is going to win? The Johnson faction - Truss or everyone else Sunak or the membership Mordaunt.

Annaram1 Thu 14-Jul-22 17:07:17

Sunak is just too rich and his wife, who wears saris, is about the richest woman in the country and pays her tax in India. They have several houses and he also has something which allows him to live in America. My husband was Indian so I'm not being racist, but I don't think they can possibly understand how difficult life is for the average Briton. My choice would be Penny.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 14-Jul-22 17:10:15

I think Sunak has his primary house as being in California

She isn’t Attorney General material either, but there she sits anyway.

She performs the same function; the rest of the cast gather round the breakfast table every day to explain the plot to her.

Why is the fact his wife wears saris relevant ? Mrs Sunak pays tax in the uk as well as India. The Sunak aren’t the only Conservatives who own several houses. Yes they’re extremely wealthy but Sunak did some innovative things to support ‘ordinary people’ during the pandemic.
I don’t see the Sunaks as any different from the Johnsons ir the Reece Smugs in having limited u derstanding of the life of the average Briton

None of the leadership hopefuls have talked about improving the public services that support successful countries. They’re all saying cut taxes -

Anniebach Thu 14-Jul-22 17:53:53

Mrs Sunak should not control her own finances ?

Why bring her wearing a sari into discussions of her husband’s politics?

tidyskatemum Thu 14-Jul-22 18:32:38

Penny Mordant is a liar (yet another one!) She was a staunch supporter of ‘trans women are women’ ‘pregnant people’ and was all for self-ID. She has now flatly denied every having such opinions. Why couldn’t she just say she’d learned more about the subject and had changed her mind? I could have respected that but telling porkies at this stage? Nah.

varian Thu 14-Jul-22 18:36:02

Unfortunately members of the Conservative party do not regard lying as any sort of disqualification.

MissAdventure Thu 14-Jul-22 18:42:55

I've no interest any more.
They're all cut from the same cloth.

Well how disappointing. All i learned from this thread is how most of you hate the Conservative party. No one who is voting will have changed their minds about who is their preferred candidate..

Absolutely no evidence that we hate the Tories. We do dislike the current bunch, in my case all those who have been on the front bench since Johnson became PM.

I briefly joined the YCs nearly 60 years ago because the organisation was reckoned to be a good way of meeting young people. I even did a bit of leafleting at a GE. I think Eric Moonman was the Labour candidate.

However, whilst my sympathies have always been left of centre, I have never disliked the Tories, apart from Thatcher.
I have of course, always disagreed with most of their policies.

We have to hope that the CP members who will be selecting the new leader will have done as much research into the candidates as many of us have.

Dinahmo Thu 14-Jul-22 19:28:36

According to my DH Penny Mordaunt is modellong herself (hair style etc) on Cindy Crawford, albeit slightly watered down.

Smileless2012 Thu 14-Jul-22 20:31:01

I was wondering why the wearing saris comment was relevant too Iam. Also, I'm pretty certain that Sunak relinquished his green card so can no longer have permanent residency in America. Also, when was being wealthy a crime?

Jeepers, same people that picked Boris, are now picking a new leader!!
Surely a clean sweep means a change of government, get rid of the whole corrupt lot. Not one of them has talked about helping people struggling with cost of living, or the fact that there are a whole lot of people that rely on food banks, all they have mentioned is tax breaks for their rich friends. Shocking

I wish that was the case Nainijo.
