I don't "do" labels, so I can't really be bothered whether they're "wealthy" or merely "upper middle class". Both of them are wealthier than the vast majority of people in the UK and neither has a clue how anybody in the middle or at the bottom of the pile lives.

But you have labelled them by saying because they are wealthier than the vast majority of people in the UK they have no understanding of what it's like.

I didn’t watch. Can anyone who did tell me what they said they’d do for ordinary people? For families who can’t afford to feed their children? For people who have to claim benefits even though they are working? For kids (and teachers) in underfunded schools? For sorting social care and NHS backlogs and understaffing? For tackling the cost of living crisis, and providing genuinely affordable housing of all tenures? Anything at all for most of us?

Because they haven’t to date.

Except that she didn't actually train as an engineer. She has a degree in software engineering, which presumably helped when she hacked Harriet Harman's website. She had a couple of middle-ranking computing jobs before going into consultancy and becoming one of the Spectator media clique.

But they are wealthier than the majority of people in the UK. I used "wealthy" as an adjective, not a label.

A poll taken from the audience immediately after the debate has Tugendhat at 35% and Truss last with 6%.

I think only 10 of the people in the audience would vote Conservative (question asked at the end).

Truss kept talking about her deliveries. Sunak kept talking about inflation. Badenoch waffled. Tugendhat spoke less than the others but I found him impressive, compared to the rest of them.

I channel hopped and watched bits. Rishi was domineering. Truss had a thatcher blouse on and talked about growth economy etc. didn’t get what Mordaunt said and Tom t thanked a woman (from nhs) in the audience fir giving him two children? but it was so irritating as none of them actually answered the question. “When are you going to pay …t the nhs”
Answer “ thank you for all your hard work”

I wasn't impressed by the actual questions in last night's debate - nothing about housing, and very vague on energy policy and dealing with the cost of living crisis. I hope the ITV debate on Sunday evening has better questions. I didn't find anything out about the candidates that I didn't already know.

Computer programmers and systems analysts are no more engineers than "solutions architects" are architects.

Real engineers and architects know that very well.

That's what she said on the programme, varian and I had no idea that she was embroidering the truth as I'd never heard of her until this week.

And my remark about washing machines was a joke .....

She's a software engineer.

Software engineers are not "computer programmers". People who don't think software engineers are "real" engineers are missing the point. Same as with systems architects - which are not the same as solutions architects.

I think Kemi's a total waste of space but I don't think that about software engineers in general. (DH is an engineer, cousin is an architect. I worked with dozens of software engineers. I know of what I speak.)

I have been told what kind of engineer she is.
