First the PM avoided 5 significant Cobra meetings when COVID was gripping the nation. Now he has ‘missed’ the heatwave Cobra meeting. Who cares if a few more old people die - there was a party to plan!

"The Lebedev scandal isn’t even Profumo – it’s more serious. Profumo slept with an escort, he didn’t hotfoot it out of the country with a possible stash of Nato docs to the mountain lair of an ex-KGB officer whose son he later ennobled"

Fgs it’s not a cobra meeting about drinking water and staying in the shade as has been explained in this thread…..

I've given up.

If people really think that a COBRA meeting is about telling people to drink water in a heatwave, then the level of understanding is so low, that it's a pointless exercise even trying to discuss it...

Who did chair the Cobra meeting? Was even Dominic Raab, as deputy, there? I haven't been able to find that out.

I do know that he has said in public that "People should be resilient enough to enjoy the sunshine."
Before anyone says 'yes, of course!' I an 81 and at risk, and I am taking this declared emergency seriously.

Kit Malthouse chaired the meeting. It's his job.

Alie2Oxon Mon 18-Jul-22 16:13:35

Reality check?

We cannot deal with excessive heat (above body temperature) because our personal body cooling systems don't work.

This can kill.

Boris Johnson opened the Farnborough International air show today

vegansrock Mon 18-Jul-22 15:10:52

So people who take risks or who are just plain stupid end up in A and E or in the mortuary because it’s their own fault, well maybe, but someone will have to clean up and look after them or shall we just leave the bodies in the sea or lake and refuse to treat anyone with heatstroke or severe burns?

Britain is turning into a nanny state we will have 2 days of hot weather mostly in the south than it's going to rain on Wednesday for 7 days . Next week it's the annual summer holidays went thousands of people jet off to hot climates .Why are the media creating this hysteria it's crazy .I don't blame boris for not attending the cobra meeting

How many times….. it’s not just about the two days and people stay indoors….

Totally fed up with listening to the scaremongering of the hot weather. It’s summer, it’s hot. Do we really need to be told to drink water and stay in the shade. What is the matter with people. Use your common sense. Cobra has many people totally capable people without calling in Boris.

Whinge, whinge, whinge. Perhaps you will soon be blaming him for the heatwave. Who knows, people are stupid enough to do so, or are you not derogatory enough?

Enough said. Just carry on bleating.

Regards to all!

What a silly post.

coastalgran Mon 18-Jul-22 14:53:22

Would it really make any difference or not if Boris attended a meeting or not, people will die in the heat from a variety of causes, they will get into difficulty in cold water, swimming in strange places that is unfamiliar to them due to currents and depths. None of this is his fault. Responsibility lies with the individual, their family or those who care for them.

Doodledog - sadly, he's NOT been dragged out of Downing Street, he's still there!

Good point, well made ?

He was dragged out to make his non-resignation speech though.

Mincub Mon 18-Jul-22 14:31:51

Time reveals all in time …he should never have been in charge and the sooner the philandering big head is kicked out with a boot up his large lazy a#se the better. What a B#oody disgrace!

Yes, how stupid of them to react to conditions that might affect the whole country, they should just let everyone "get on with it" (that's the current phrase I believe - "we all just got on with it").

Strangely, that's exactly what people are doing now, just getting on with it. And the government are doing their job, which is to prepare for any crisis situation - I doubt they're making much "fuss" about it, just looking at it in practical terms.

Not sure why you think you're being 'nannied' - your trains might run a bit slower for a couple of days, or there might be a lorry in front of you on the road gritting some melting tarmac, but apart from that, how is their nannying impacting your life? And you are, of course, completely free to ignore any advice given by the Met Office.

If anyone is making a 'fuss; - it's the media with their melodramatic headlines, not the people, nor the government who are, in fact, just doing their job.

You wanted him out so he has done it ! And after last nights programme god help us!

Seriously? You are saying that Johnson left office because the public wanted him out?

He had to be virtually dragged out of Downing Street, for goodness' sake grin.

Agreed that the new contenders are a shower of drips though. Johnson got rid of anyone approaching a threat to his absolute power. God help us indeed ?

His party wanted him out, that’s why he has gone. We had no say in it.

MayBee70 Mon 18-Jul-22 14:11:19

Thanks to all of the warnings people do seem to be avoiding rail travel etc unless it’s absolutely necessary. If weather warnings hadn’t began a while ago people would not have been able to change their travel plans.

Really can't see what all the fuss is about. Most on here wanted Boris out. So he's going. Most wanted him to go immediately. So why do most want him to chair a meeting or be at any meetings?
Perhaps because they feel nobody is as competent as him?

Most wanted him to go immediately. So why do most want him to chair a meeting or be at any meetings?

... perhaps because he insisted on staying on as PM pro tem, and is therefore still being paid to do the job?

There's no "fuss" - people are commenting on a thread about him missing another COBRA meeting. That's what happens on social media...

The thousands of people who will jet off to hot climates are not those at risk. And in any case the countries with hot climates have much better infrastructure to deal with these temperature.

But hey-ho, people will die but that's much preferable to a "nanny state".

Yeah, it's only a couple of thousand predicted to die. What's all the fuss about?

Exactly vegansrock. The constant warnings about the heat are to minimise any further pressure on an already over-stretched health service. 13 years of Tory under-funding has finally left our NHS at breaking point. Any extra pressure might be the final straw.
