Well am not surprised.. Are you? Feel dismayed by the Cons and the awful skullduggery that has gone on..need a glass or 2..hmm

Whitewavemark2 Thu 21-Jul-22 15:46:12

Truss has a trade deal with Australia.

I shall not be purchasing Australian meat

Doodledog Thu 21-Jul-22 15:46:45

Did they give more detail?

(I'll share your sweet and you share my salty?)

Doodledog Thu 21-Jul-22 15:47:56

Oh, that's awful. Mr Dog is veggie, so I don't eat a lot of meat anyway, but I will seriously consider joining him in vegetarianism.

There were two commentators

One a labour supporter the other a Tory supporter. They had both been around the block, so had heard it all, but they were absolutely astounded at what they were hearing, but couldn’t say of course, because it was so bad??
They were
Luciana Berger
Ian Dale

Vetrep. Well said!! Couldn’t agree more either

It will be a very small portion of the meat in the markets here. No-one has to buy it.

Not all Australian meat is produced like that and the meat imported into the UK will be subject to our regulations.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 21-Jul-22 16:45:43

But because of their regulations you cannot be sure the meat that you are eating has not been raised in abject cruelty.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 21-Jul-22 16:47:05

Anyway, with this shower in charge, how long until it becomes expedient to change our regulations? I put nothing past them.

I'm afraid being produced in the UK or the EU with all their regulations does not mean that you know for sure either.

But can Rishi become Prime Minister?

Surely he cannot retain his American citizenship and be Prime Minister of Britain? Does he have Indian citizenship as well? Does anyone know where his loyalties really lie?

Is there any real reason to prefer him to Truss?

IMO neither are in any way suitable, but obviously the Parliamentary group of the Conservative Party feels both are suitable.

Are these the regulations that are being re regulated or removed?

He was born in the UK.
Southampton Hospital.
He is British

Having permanent residency does not make him an American citizen.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 21-Jul-22 16:55:18

It would be better if Truss had allowed a debate on it in parliament, as undoubtedly this would have been explored.

But she has refused.

I'm sure it will be labelled. ??

Easy to avoid if you don't wish to buy it.

^Although I want to keep the role of PM for an ethnic Brit, I would vote for Patel if a Remainer was the other candidate^

Jeez!!! What an appalling comment - discriminatory on so many levels. So, these are the sort of people who will choose the next PM of this country?

And if they choose Sunak every racist in the country will have a field day, won't they?

It won't matter if his politics are good, bad or indifferent, the fact that he and ten generations of his forefathers were not born and bred in the British Isles will really suit the racists They won't stop to consider his politics.

And anyone who does try to soberly criticise his politics, his Cabinet or anything else while he is PM will be yelled at for
being a racist too.

So he can't win, and the general public cannot either.

Farzanah Thu 21-Jul-22 17:05:57

If you eat out in restaurants you can’t be sure where meat is sourced. Better to stick to veggie I think.

Callistemon21 Thu 21-Jul-22 17:08:40

the fact that he and ten generations of his forefathers were not born and bred in the British Isles

Obviously you missed my post

He was born in the UK
He was bred in the UK
He is British.

His parents mostly probably have British citizenship too.

Petera Thu 21-Jul-22 17:11:21

...and besides which BJ actually was a US citizen while Mayor and Foreign Secretary.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 21-Jul-22 17:19:37

By refusing debate on the Australian deal, they are closing down a democratic decision on a deal that undermines U.K. farmers and animal welfare.

The EU would never operate in this way.

suzikyoo Thu 21-Jul-22 17:20:24

Brilliantly put, Vetrep, but I think you may be arousing the trolls once again!

Brilliantly put, maybe, but completely untrue or inaccurate

As for comments about politicians with no 'class'. Well, you may enjoy doffing your hats to your 'betters' but we do actually live in a society where integrity and honesty matter more than the colour of your blood. Not many lickspittles left, fortunately...grin

Anybody remember BJ and Co's trade deal for, amongst other things, chlorinated chicken from the US...

BTW, is it just me or do most modern day politicians appear to just want the bragging rights/to go down in history as MP, PM etc rather than do the job they were elected for?

I used to live in a country where I didn’t have to protect my life by reading the small print….

Did you listen to the James O'Brien interview with Keir Starmer that was posted a few days ago?

At one point he says '*I just want to see the country run properly'.* In our present state of chaos and monstrous egos that seems to me to be a sentiment that a lot of people could get behind. And a far better ambition than to be King of the World.

(I don't have the link on my lap top, but I could post it later)
