I think views are different even in your part of Scotland Aveline ,I have many friends and some family in and around Edinburgh and they are ALL without exception supporters of Independence and Nicola Sturgeon.
Its very sad that someone born and bred here believes that the english parliament ( For thats what it is and always has been ,with less than 10% of seats Scottish) is better able to run a country they know begger all about and care even less .
I'm heartened by the number of new Scots and unionists
online today saying Truss has lost their Tory vote and Nicola has won their vote for Indy as its clear the Tory clique has no respect for Scotland and considers themselves superior.
Sadly there will always be those brainwashed from birth who believe the myth that England is a superior nation.Even though the evidence through the centuries has proven otherwise .Look at India ,robbed of £45 Trillion during "British " rule while all the time the world was told India was too poor and unable to rule themsleves and thats not forgetting the genocide visited on the people by "Britnat hero" Churchill .He who abandoned Scottish regiments on the beaches of France and said they were of "no great loss"
Oh dear, paddyanne54. You really don't like Churchill, don't you? In a previous thread, I have already had to point out the many lies made up by socialists and Scot Nats (and swallowed whole and repeated unquestioned by their gullible fans) about Churchill's role in "sending English Tanks to Kill Scottish Strikers in George Square" . Now you are repeating the myth about Churchill "abandoning Scottish regiments on the beaches of France", and saying they were "of no great value". My uncle - still a teenager - was taken prisoner with 2nd Bn Seaforth Highlanders at St Valery, and never recovered from his years in captivity, so I have a certain amount of "skin in the game". First of all, if any British soldiers of the 51st were "abandoned" at St Valery, they certainly weren't all Scots soldiers. What about the large number of non-Scots in the attached Royal Artillery regiments, Royal Engineer companies, Field Ambulance units, Royal Signals, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, Royal Army Service Corps etc, not to mention the other attached English units from the Kensington Regiment, the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, and the Norfolk Regiment? They suffered the same fate as their Scots colleagues , but that's of no interest to the Scot Nats grievance narrative, of course. And to blame Churchill for the tragedy of St Valery is simply wrong: it was a case of 'wrong place; wrong time', and it could have been any of the other Divisions in the BEF at the time. To suggest that less effort was put into evacuating them because they were Scots is complete nonsense. And to end up by accusing Churchill of saying they were "no great loss" perfectly illustrates the depths to which Scot Nat false propaganda sinks. These words (actually "no great mischief") were actually written by General Wolfe in 1751, in a letter recommending Highland troops for service in North America: "I should imagine that two or three independent Highland companies might be of use," he wrote. "They are hardy, intrepid, accustomed to a rough country, and no great mischief if they fall." Hardly surprising sentiments, considering that he had fought them only 5 years previously at Culloden (and by the time of his death at the Battle of Quebec 8 years later, he and his Highland troops had huge respect for one another). But the SNP and their adherents never let historical accuracy get in the way of concocting a good anti-English folk tale...
Oh, and by the way, I seem to recall learning at my Highland school about the great Scottish explorers, soldiers, sailors merchants and industrialists who did so much to expand and run the British Empire.
