We are fortunate to have Mohammed Yasin who is a good, active MP - and that has always been my main concern when choosing where to put my cross.
It just so happens that he is Labour, which suits me too!

Just that. I can only imagine that, if Truss carries out her promises to give tax cuts to the rich and ignore those struggling, the Labour party's lead would increase.

If she has been saying this to gain power, and we have another liar in office, I don't know how usually Tory voters will react. They seem to accept the most outrageous of lies so they may stick with her. There still seems to be a tranche of Trumpian style supporters sticking to Johnson; they may transfer allegiance (and all common sense) to Truss.

I am a Labour voter and hope the next Labour government will be a good one ( although I accept that it may not be, we shall not know until the event.)
I cannot agree with your assertion DaisyAnne about Tory voters 'they seem to accept the most outrageous of lies so they may stick with her'. There are millions of Tory voters and you cannot say this about them.Many have already been turned off by the many lies by Mr Johnson.

I usually vote LibDem, so they would get my vote. I live in a very rural part of the country which always has a huge Conservative majority. I know it's a wasted vote, but I live in hope.

Lib Dem, as sadly they are the only ones likely to get in this area.

I was never a supporter of Johnson but wasn’t ‘turned off’ (from voting Conservative) by his lack of acquaintance with the truth. Lord knows what Liz Truss will be like - she definitely wouldn’t have been my choice, but not being a party member I have no say in the matter.

I'm an SNP voter and also locally also voted Liberal Democrat.

The astonishing thing now is BJ seemed like an almost benign option when you see what it to come ,in the form of Liz Truss!

The tories have almost no presence at all in Scotland. The voting system needs to change but as long as they are in power it won't.

The tactical anti-Tory vote is the sensible vote.

We have got to work together to get rid of them.

What we should remember is that this is not a Tory country. The majority of people do not vote for a Tory government.

The trouble is that the vote is split, and to get rid of them we must unite and vote tactically. Then I think we should do everything to ensure PR of some sort.

I voted for labour under Tony Blair. Since the demise of Blair and Brown I have reverted to voting Conservative and expect to do so again as things currently stand, but we don’t yet know what any of the parties’ manifestos will look like, nor which personalities would be likely to form another government.

You are very brave saying this. And of course it has to be respected. But just do not get it, after 12 years of this debacle, and with the 2 candidates being just so bad.

They will spread the message. There were other things to do after the last disastrous election. Remember most people are not as interested in politics as those on these threads.

That kind of points scoring, where winning the argument is the most important thing doesn’t appeal. It doesn’t really seem to change anything and nobody is listening to each other.

Even if the ruling party was bringing in something really good the opposition would oppose it regardless. And even if the opposition was making a really good point about some proposed legislation the ruling party would try to put them down. Just to be top dog rather than genuinely exploring the issues.

Actually not true, because had you been watching you would know that on key decisions in Covid management and the Ukraine war, the opposition have been supportive of the government. However on other issues where the parties differ in approach I’m interested to know what do you think the alternative to opposing a motion is Lathyrus?

It will be Labour for me. We have had 4 full terms of Tory cuts and it is seen everywhere, especially in the NHS and in our schools.
The problem is that if Labour do win the next election people will expect miracles in reversing the last 22 years of Tory rule. This can't be done in one political term and when things don't happen fast enough people will say 'typical labour' and revert back to Tory again with more cuts. One term in office, with discontent raging over pay, energy price hikes and a massive recession isn't going to be enough to reverse the issues with an NHS on its knees ext.
I will vote Labour but for me there is a big problem with my choice. That is the Party's current stance on the Trans issue.

Yes Fleurpepper, GN isn’t the place to admit you’re a Conservative voter, but I’m always honest. I don’t agree that both candidates for leadership are ‘just so bad’. I would prefer to see Sunak win as I think he is the better candidate by far but that seems unlikely. I think Truss is weak and lacking in gravitas and her economic policies have been widely questioned. We shall see.
