The plotting to get shut of Truss of is already underway.
But the good news is that it could lead to a General Election

Normandygirl I note your source was the French media. Hmmm. I think that's exactly the kind of thing they would say, don't you?

Don't you remember the total paddy the EU threw when they couldn't get the vaccinations as quickly as they liked, once they had finally stopped dithering about them?

The data that was used for the " league" table comes from the WHO, or do you think that they are against the UK as well?
If you believe that only the British media tells you the truth it's no wonder the UK is in the sorry state it's in.

Well said, Dickens.

Peri or menopausal no thanks

... good grief!

Women go through menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, motherhood, perimenopause and menopause.

Not much of a window of opportunity for them is there?

And anyway, not all menopausal women suffer either - some sail through.

Whatever I think of Truss (not a lot), I'm not going to hold that against her.

Where's the sisterhood, eh?

And, just to add a bit of 'whataboutery' - middle-aged men can also be a PITA as the ageing process catches up with them - especially when they set out to prove that they've still 'got it'!

The saddest thing about the whole sorry business is that we now have GOVERNMENT BY THE PRESS and the BBC is the worst. The listening and watching public must surely have realised that by now. They have interfered in UK relationships with other countries and may cause untold damage in many ways than our own politics. One day the world will turn it's back on the British Government because of the overwhelming interference by the BBC.

Every time I think of the Russians invading and taking the Crimea via a referendum I think of the comments made over the Scottish Referendum which was voted out. I have noticed they have had some of the reporting of the Ukrainian invasion by Russia shortened, and there is very little from the reporter in Russia now.

No matter who it is, the BBC think they have a right to rubbish them, and how you make them stop is something someone should do something about.

The worst they do is to interview their own journalists pretending they are independent people with a view. They are not. The only really independent interviewer is Stephen Sacker, and he is so good at his job that no one would dare try it on him.

^My DH is registered for healthcare in France where he lives and his vaccinations occurred a few months after mine, despite us being of similar age.^

Coincidentally, following my comment on this thread earlier today, DH (aged 73) just received a phone call offering him his fourth booster on the 16th September. I'm under the NHS and have heard nothing. I'm 72.

I turned down my 4th booster in August, I am 68

Priti Patel has just resigned and flounced off before she was sacked:

Useless anyway, so no loss. ?

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 05-Sept-22 18:32:25

That's unacceptable Suzey. Do you consider that all menopausable or peri-menopausable women are totally incapable? I certainly wasn't.

Casdon Mon 05-Sept-22 18:22:41

In her case surely she needs to keep her friends close and her enemies closer?

FannyCornforth Mon 05-Sept-22 18:21:14

Yes. That really is pathetic

Can't stand the woman and do not trust her - but this is just not fair and so mysoginist!

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 05-Sept-22 18:15:41

I imagine any PM would surround themselves with people whom they didn't consider a threat - as with all leaders in all walks of life. However in Liz Truss's case ... but I must keep an open mind.

Grannyheartache Mon 05-Sept-22 18:14:11

I’m loving Gransnet! So many non Tories or at least less extreme Tories. Let’s hope we don’t go through too much pain before there’s a landslide for Labour!

It is terrifying. Johnson surrounded himself with people who would never outshine him thus we have the most inept cabinet in history. So a lot of barrel scraping to come up with the the two finalists. The sad thing is that all they want (including Johnson) is to have the title of Prime Minister not interested in the good of the people of this country.

And all that money spent of refurbishing and redecorating the flat above...... Wasted.

I can't imagine it will be to Liz Truss's taste!

If Johnson did come back he would believe that his terrible behaviour was justified and would be even more insufferable.

This ^!

Breaking the law and getting paultry files when public got fined thousands is disgusting. He is a liar and a cheat. It speaks volumes that the tories still want him. I hope I never vote again in my life.

At least it wasn't public money. Lord Brownlow seemed perfectly happy to have his money wasted. Did he get some nice lucrative contracts out of it?

I expect they've taken the dreadful furniture with them.

I'm just wondering how long it will take to extract Johnson from Chequers...

Germanshepherds Mum,

I could describe myself as a middle ground Conservative and have been a party mrmber for a long time. Rather like my favourite radio presenter Iain Dale. On some issues i sympathise with people who work hard, obey the law and look after their families but do not get a fair crack of the whip and often get low wages. I am a scouser and grew up in a council house and none of my family ever voted Conservative either in UK or Australia. I went to a grammar school
In 1945 and vslue my education. There are lots of tories like me. However, i
Just love a political argument and in my later life most of my friends were labour voters. I have a friend on the left in this group and we get on well! I like your posts generally. And you obviously like dogs and i am passionately involved in saving their lives so we do have things in common! l

halfpint1 It was Boris's speed at getting the vaccination out and available that was his strong point. Don't you remember the EU being slated because they were very slow off the mark in introducing the vaccinations. I remember at the time being relieved at having left the EU as they were so slow.

And another thing Boris was good at was his dealings with Ukraine. Again, much better and firmer than the EU.

Except that wasn't true regarding the vaccinations being faster because of leaving the EU.

www.france24.com/en/tv-shows/fact-or-fake/20210717-did-the-uk-get-the-covid-19-vaccine-faster-thanks-to-brexit

In terms of fully vaccinated citizens the UK came in only 5th in Europe. Slower than Malta, Italy, Portugal and Denmark.

StoneofDestiny Mon 05-Sept-22 17:04:35

We are in a truly desperate situation in the UK if people think Boris Johnson is to be missed as a Prime Minister.

Dinahmo Mon 05-Sept-22 16:57:19

Prentice

I do not think we will have PR at any time soon.
the last General Election was overwhelming with Conservative votes, an 80 seat majority if I remember rightly.
it was different I know, as it involved Brexit and also the negative impact of Mr Corbyn on labour voters.
however it has to be said that they have won many elections now so there must be many supporting voters.
I have noticed that it is always 'misrule' used by people when the vote is not what they agree with after an election.
just an observation.

The Tories had a majority of seats but not a majority of the votes. So not an overwhelming win.
