The plotting to get shut of Truss of is already underway.
But the good news is that it could lead to a General Election

Well let’s hope so, so that this whole sorry mess doesn’t carry on. She doesn’t have the backing of her party so is going to find it hard to get anything passed. Please let it be soon

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 04-Sept-22 13:05:40

I would rather have Johnson than Truss, from what I’ve seen of her so far.

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Sept-22 13:08:23

It’s horrendous isn’t it.
I think that people (normal Tory voters who wanted him out) are already regretting it all.
It’s like we’re shackled to him.
I pray that Labour get their act together

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Sept-22 13:09:06

Cross post - there speaks my ‘normal Tory voter’! ?

Casdon Sun 04-Sept-22 13:13:16

According to the latest YouGov poll, only 25% now think Johnson is doing a good job as PM, so I can’t see bringing him back being popular with the electorate. It’s more likely to be Sunak or another when she fails in my opinion. Another poll yesterday said that more voters apparently think the world is flat than that Truss will be a good PM - that did bring a wry smile.

What an absolute mess.
Did anyone see the ‘Have I got news for you’, tribute show to Boris on bbc1 on Friday night .
It wasn't so much a tribute show more a ‘tear him to shreds’ opportunity!
Was funny though, can catch up on iplayer if interested and at the end of it they intimated they now had Liz Truss
in their sights! grin

Blossoming Sun 04-Sept-22 13:20:26

I cannot tell you what I think. I would be banned from Gransnet.

growstuff Sun 04-Sept-22 13:28:43

So what happens to all the MPs who wrote letters of no confidence? They're all going to look like hypocritical idiots and nobody with any values could take any of them seriously.

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Sept-22 13:35:40

Growstuff if the cap fits!

MaizieD Sun 04-Sept-22 13:47:05

Does Johnson think that he's going to come up smelling of roses as a result of the investigations of the Privileges Committee?

Or does he think that the investigation isn't going to happen?

Truss did apparently say at one point that she would stop the investigation but a) I'm not sure how she could do that and b) as Johnson would be directly challenging her if she becomes PM I don't thin she's want to stop the investigation.

And if Sunak became PM, would he want to stop it?

Has the tory PLP turned from being on the point of ousting him through a vote of no confidence to being willing to enable his return?

growstuff Sun 04-Sept-22 13:47:22

I'm not sure, but I think over 100 either submitted letters and/or were publicly critical. So who's left?

growstuff Sun 04-Sept-22 13:48:40

Would we have to go through this farcical selection pantomime again?

MaizieD Sun 04-Sept-22 13:48:45

'I don't think she'd... '

Do proof read, woman...

BlueBelle Sun 04-Sept-22 13:58:58

Oh my flipping word people actually saying they want Johnson back I m going down Alice’s rabbit hole and stay there
Yea I think Johnson is expecting to come up smelling of roses and judging by some people even posting on Gn he probably will
I think Truss has been set up by those awful people just so
she ll fail and people will say oh Johnson (no they ll say Boris like he’s their cousin or brother) will sort it all out
I want to leave uk and if I was younger I would I m hating it soooooooooo much

FarNorth Sun 04-Sept-22 14:11:02

Surely Johnson isn't the only option if Truss is a failure?
Anyway, won't those 'normal Tories' vote Sunak to avoid that happening?

(The whole thing is a disaster, imo)

LizzieDrip Sun 04-Sept-22 14:31:31

I agree with Bluebelle. I think Truss is a puppet who is being used by the Tory members, many of whom absolutely, inexplicably idolise Johnson. They know Truss hasn’t got the intellectual capacity to deal with the current national / global crises. They expect her to implode, probably sooner rather than later, at which point she’ll be got rid of by the party, and Johnson will win the next rigged leadership election. He’ll ride back into No 10 like a knight on a white charger to ‘save us all’. The whole thing is sickening and worthy of the behaviour of some of the corrupt ‘so-called’ governments around the world the UK happily criticises. Once again the people of this country are being taken for fools by the Tories. God help us!

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Sept-22 14:34:21

I think the same as you BB and Lizzie
It’s the only thing that can explain Truss getting this far.
She’s utterly useless

Barmeyoldbat Sun 04-Sept-22 15:11:54

It is so depressing, nothing is getting done until the next PM is in office and then all the fighting will begin again. I have said exactly the same Bluebelle I just wish I was younger and could live somewhere else. I hate what this country has become because there are people who idolise Johnson and the Tory party. Also heard it said that Truss would be out of her depth in a bird bath

Iam64 Sun 04-Sept-22 15:58:37

‘Truss out of her depth in a bird bath’. - strangely accurate Barmeyoldbat.

The tories are imploding. The idea that Truss could be better for the country than Sunak makes me head spin.
The country feels rudderless, drifting in a sea of that stuff that’s being pumped into our seas and rivers

NanKate Sun 04-Sept-22 16:03:36

I must be the only person on GN who misses BJ ?

JenniferEccles Sun 04-Sept-22 16:12:12

I admit it, I was sorry to see Boris hounded out, so you are certainly not alone NanKate!
There are many more than two of us too, just probably not posting on GN !
Yes he made mistakes but he got the important stuff right.
Anyway we are where we are so let’s give Liz Truss a chance to prove herself.
I saw a bit of her interview with Laura Kuenssberg and I thought she conducted herself well.

Time will tell though won’t it.

Barmeyoldbat Sun 04-Sept-22 16:29:15

That made me laugh, Boris got stuff right, maybe you mean HE, managed to get us all vaccinated against covid, but that was more due to the NHS and others. Let hope not to many people think the same

Whitewavemark2 Sun 04-Sept-22 16:36:15

The spin by Johnson was that he got the big stuff right, but of course he didn’t.

He was a total failure on every issue.

As for him returning at Christmas!

I think that the Tory party have done sufficient damage to the U.K. by trashing our reputation abroad and trashing our economy and democracy at home. It is time they’re tired gracefully and we can all breath a sigh of relief.

Remember that in the U.K. most people do not vote Tory.

halfpint1 Sun 04-Sept-22 16:38:17

This vaccination achievement puzzles me. We all got vaccinated in Europe if we wanted it. It wasn't down to anyone
in particular but everyone
