I don't think you are, NanKate. It's clear that there are many posters who agree with you and the "be careful what you wish for" scenario has proven to be true. As much as I miss Boris I do now think the best option is for a General Election so that we can vote in a Labour government for a few years to see how they will further mess up the country while the Conservatives reform and reunite in Opposition.

When pm is ousted for scurrilous reasons(aka bent as a nine Bob note!) It should trigger a snap election, or dissolution of parliament as the party in power is deemed to have been headed up by a corrupt leader! They MOSTLY bolstered him up and defended his filthy ways so gen election needed more than ever!

One of the many depressing aspects of this whole pantomime is that the new prime minister is not appointed democratically, but voted in by some smug Daily Mail readers, and the population accepts this whole sorry process as reasonable and normal.

He/she is appointed democratically. When you vote, you vote for YOUR MP, not the PM or the leader of the Party. The party with the most MP's (all fairly elected under the current rules) then puts its leader in the top role. You could equally argue that we don't vote for the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Foreign Secretary, etc, etc.
If you want to vote for a Prime Minister, join the Party so you are entitled to vote. If you did, you could also legitimately campaign for a change in the rules of how the Tory Leader is chosen.

If Johnson did come back he would believe that his terrible behaviour was justified and would be even more insufferable.

Yep I agree she's not the brightest bulb in the box a Thatcher wannabee but don't forget she wasn't expected to last love her or loathe her she did turn this "sick man of Europe" around as we were known then but we have a problem tories have lost their way Labour couldn't find their way they talk a good job but it's different once your in suppose all we can do is hope she gets it right because if Labour get in Kier Starmer won't be there long they will oust him and it will be Angela Rayner Corbyn in a dress in power and her and the unions will have a field day

Boris broke away from Europe to set up our own R & D for a vaccine and we started the vaccine programme a lot earlier no doubt saving lives. Keir wanted us to join the European effort. Vaccinated first, but one of the highest death tolls from Covid due to poor decision making. That’s nothing to be proud of.

Just heard her simpering, uninspiring, lacklustre acceptance speech ! Be afraid, ladies, be very afraid of what is to come ! I have never known this beloved country to get so despondent! I am 72 so have lived through many lean years and changes! This is dire!

Did anyone see the ‘Have I got news for you’, tribute show to Boris on bbc1 on Friday night .
It wasn't so much a tribute show more a ‘tear him to shreds’ opportunity!
Was funny though, can catch up on iplayer if interested and at the end of it they intimated they now had Liz Truss
in their sights!

Did you notice though that the show started with a comment that it was a tribute to Boris’ FIRST premiership?

I doubt Johnson will be back any time soon, if at all. There were only 654 spoiled ballots in the Tory election and if they were all write in votes for him that's very low. The result for Truss is decisive though Sunak made a very respectable showing, not far off Johnson's own previous percentage. Labour should attack Truss for having no mandate. She was elected by some 80,000 Tory party members, a mere 0.17% of the UK registered voting population.

Only in my worst nightmare... Zero integrity, serial liar, ego-maniac, and frankly, an absolute embarrassment on the world stage as our so-called leader. IMHO...

Wasn’t it the LibDems who said energy prices should be frozen, then copied by Starmer and finally the tories are considering it?

With all of the people in this country there must be one person somewhere who can lead us and help us get out of this sh*tshow.

The spin by Johnson was that he got the big stuff right, but of course he didn’t.

He was a total failure on every issue.

As for him returning at Christmas!

I think that the Tory party have done sufficient damage to the U.K. by trashing our reputation abroad and trashing our economy and democracy at home. It is time they’re tired gracefully and we can all breath a sigh of relief.

Remember that in the U.K. most people do not vote Tory.

I agree with you totally, on all three counts. Especially our reputation abroad. The world is laughing at the idiots and the mess they are making on this island! I now feel embarrassed to say I'm from the UK.

Our economy is down the tubes and an Indian friend told me that India is now doing better than the UK. Good for them, but what does it say about here? And democracy has gone and is slowly but surely being replaced by fascism.

I'm in Scotland. Here the tories are like a cancer that we can't get rid of... so far! We didn't vote for them! It doesn't matter who is leading their party, none of them is fit for purpose. But they will hang on because personal power is more important to them than the state of the country.

And like someone else earlier... if I really said what I think I'd get barred form the site!
