How long have we had a conservative government?

Fleurpepper Tue 06-Sept-22 16:16:19

A s*it load of time!

Caleo Tue 06-Sept-22 16:17:14

Let them eat sewage. Swim in sewage, Spoil their holidays with British sewage. Try to fish British sewerage rivers.

Didn’t Liz Truss have something to do with that as Secretary of State for the environment? I can only assume she will herald the onset of even more sh*t.

I’m with you on the government’s lack of management of the ‘s. . .t’. They’d never pass an OFSTED inspection.
I also think it’s time those knowingly depositing the stuff in our rivers etc should accept some responsibility! Name and shame and fine!

I agree name shame and fine. My Dh has given up trout and salmon fishing there are few fish in the rivers.
When we were small you knew where all the sewerage pipes were discharging into the sea or harbour and kept away, you don't expect it now and from the sewerage works themselves.
It will take a huge outbreak of campylobacter or dysentery for something to be done.
To think the poor people in Pakistan are living in it 24/7 is unbelievable.

Truss cut funds to the Environment Agency, so fewer Inspectors and less money to prosecute offenders with.

This is what Small State is about, minimal state spending. She is a huge fan of Small State. That's what the ERG group, who will control her, are all about.

This is why all these people who are saying 'Give her a chance' are peeing me off. We know exactly what she believes in before she even starts with her bonfire of regulations, clampdown on unions and sending asylum seekers to Rwanda. Just how those who were prepared to listen knew exactly what Johnson was like before ever he became PM. And look how that turned out. I'd rather she had no chance at all.

What bothers me is that our tory voters on here don't seem to be in the slightest bit concerned. They'll just go on voting for sh*t...

It’s very frightening Maizie, we are going ever backwards. It took years and years to clean up our rivers and it took one government to kill them again. This country is a laughing stock with this ‘small state’ government, and all so the Tories can continue to make their friends ever richer and the rest of us ever poorer. There has been standing sewage on the children’s play park near here, and in the adjacent nature reserve. I know where I’d like to dump it.

What puzzles me is how long it will take before Conservatives have no clean water left to enjoy. At present richer people can pay for nice areas for their recreation . Are Conservatives actually stupid?

nanna8 Wed 07-Sept-22 12:02:49

Aren’t there laws to stop people releasing pollutants? Don’t they prosecute people or is it a free for all ? Where are the police?

Caleo Wed 07-Sept-22 12:05:22

There's suppose to be an environment agency that polices release of storm overflows (legal) and optional overflows (illegal) but the agency has not enough money to police it all as it should.

Let's remember (again) that it was our new PM who slashed the Environment Agency's budget and put it in this toothless position.

She intends to do more slashing of public spending, so this isn't the worst by a long chalk...

I am afraid so Maisie.

Will there come a crisis of filth that makes everyone rebel with one voice?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 10-Sept-22 11:14:00

That crises of filth will also extend to our ground water.

Fracking uses vast, vast quantities of water to which that, add huge quantities of chemicals which is renders the water unusable, but will spill into our water table and have to be made usable by expensive methods, picked up of course by the tax payer.

Madness in this time of drought, which is a almost certainly a frequent occurrence.
