As my heading says. Personally, I think that common-sense should have been applied in the first place, and a woman appointed to the position.

Mr Grant had been expected to lead a regional campaign across schools, colleges and wider communities to raise awareness of the new law and ensure that Scottish government funding is allocated appropriately

Just send messages out on the social media forums which girls and young women use.
Put free sanitary products in machines all women's loos.

Did you apply for the job Call? Hope not. Because your proposals show a remarkable degree of not having a clue what they are trying to do. Just ridiculous, sorry.

No, why would I want to relocate to Scotland? ?

I did suggest you applied because you told us you could do the job as an experienced project manager and you told us you were not happy because you were made redundant. Ideal.

I'm not as young as you either, I'm pensionable age.

Volver it's not personal! No need to be so aggressive in your responses.
I've no idea what you're on about re 'Jon Snow' btw.

Yes, I agree, no need for such aggression.

volver Tue 06-Sept-22 21:44:36

The extent of your anger intrigues me volver.

See my post about jumping to conclusions. Also...

I live near Dundee.
It's not a medical appointment.
It's about implementing a governmental policy.
I have a remote connection to the organisation in question.
I am amazed that people can be so angry about something when they have no understanding of it at all.
People are discriminating based on ignorance.

Is that enough?

Victory for common sense.
Great news.

Nothing dignified in a young girl having to talk about her periods with a man.

What common sense? The whole program is now scrapped

This will hurt girls. Not help them.

But “yay! A man lost a job I think a woman should have had”.

??

Well it’s not often I find myself agreeing with volver but on this occasion, having looked at what the role involved, I think it could have been done by either male or female.

Ensuring that employers etc know about the new law, know what their responsibilities are and ensuring that the law is implemented is a strategic role, not necessarily involving direct personal input.

Periods aren’t just a women thing. Male employers especially need to be made to understand what’s involved in having a period. Would they be more willing to listen to a man? ??

Iam64 Tue 06-Sept-22 21:50:52

* would they be more willing to listen to a man?*

Well there we are then. ‘They’ may find a man more persuasive, more believable

Lathyrus Tue 06-Sept-22 21:52:07

However, I would suggest that women’s anger at this appointment is a backlash against other policies that have appointed males to what are c,early roles that only females should undertake.

Women in Scotland are rising to make their voices heard. If only those in power would listen☹️

Iam64 Tue 06-Sept-22 21:58:19

I suspect we are in agreement there Lathyrus

Glorianny Tue 06-Sept-22 21:58:57

So a man has been hounded out of a job which was meant to make things better for women. How can anyone justify that?

As for the teacher going to prison he ignored a court order, no matter what the reason for the order he broke the law.

Along the lines of

“That’s a very good suggestion Miss Jones. Perhaps one of the men would like to propose it.”

JaneJudge Tue 06-Sept-22 22:04:17

what do men know about period dignity apart from ignoring it or not understanding it? and tbh I count some women in this too

FarNorth Tue 06-Sept-22 22:16:20

If there was no intention for the man to speak with young girls, about periods, it was a bit silly to have publicity photos of him speaking with a young girl and 2 other people - along with a table-full of period supplies.

Why not photos of him with a newly-persuaded employer or two, if that's his actual job?

Callistemon21 Tue 06-Sept-22 22:16:25

Unfortunately I remember a lot of inconsequential rubbish.
It's more of a curse than a blessing.

happycatholicwife1 Tue 06-Sept-22 22:18:16

For the love... It's this kind of business that makes government an ever growing organism that can never be satisfied. The entire post seems ridiculous and unnecessary, much less to be headed by a man. The cost of common sense? I suspect just about the same amount they expended interviewing for this position and printing up all the materials and hiring this gent, then having to give him a nice separation package.

Yes, absolutely.
Not the best publicity photo, was it.

Because they have a not-very-effective PR company.

Making sanitary products available free in schools, leisure centres, other places eg shops is an excellent idea.

However, I really could do with someone who can explain to me exactly what is dignified about periods even if sanitary products are available.

I used to fervently wish they could be turned off and back on as necessary.

JaneJudge Tue 06-Sept-22 22:28:53

of course them being free is a brilliant idea but why can't you access products that are more absorbent if you have fibroids etc and why do people think it is is all made up if you can't make work/can't work as long or god forbid you are accused at work as using the toilet too often

Hold the front page. The Scottish approach to resolving period poverty has been praised around the world but hcw1 thinks it's ridiculous and unnecessary. We all stand corrected.

This "gent"? Really?

Lathyrus Tue 06-Sept-22 22:30:08

Hooray for the pill. It did just that -amongst other benefits?

not all women can take the pill or use hormonal contraception. Do you think more women know about that than men?

Because they have a not-very-effective PR company.

So the publicity gave completely the wrong idea, rather than people jumping to unreasonable conclusions?

Surely the 4 people in charge of this period dignity campaign had a say in the publicity? It can't have been left to the PR company to dream up what the job might be about?

JaneJudge Tue 06-Sept-22 22:33:39

I want to be in charge
