As my heading says. Personally, I think that common-sense should have been applied in the first place, and a woman appointed to the position.

I had thought that all Scottish local authorities were to appoint these officers so surely the rôle shouldn't be abandoned.

About bloody time…… sorry had to be done?

Iam64 Tue 06-Sept-22 18:41:46

What a waste of bl***y time and money.

Wonderful news but cancelled out by this hideous decision ?

I'm sure he will have been given a very nice pay off and a new job found for him asap.

Just a bloody disgrace. A role discontinued because some people don't like the person who got the job? Mob rule. The man was threatened. Disgraceful.

But never mind, Martina knows better than all those people who conceived the role and interviewed the man. I hope people are ashamed of themselves. But I don't suppose they are.

You know nothing, Jon Snow.

He was told to stay away from the school while the case was heard but turned up anyway and is in contempt of court. Not quite the headline the Daily Mail would like you to believe.

Mr Grant had been expected to lead a regional campaign across schools, colleges and wider communities to raise awareness of the new law and ensure that Scottish government funding is allocated appropriately

Just send messages out on the social media forums which girls and young women use.
Put free sanitary products in machines all women's loos.

Did you apply for the job Call? Hope not. Because your proposals show a remarkable degree of not having a clue what they are trying to do. Just ridiculous, sorry.

Why is the role discontinued? If it's thought to be a necessary role surely there's one woman in the whole area who could fulfil it? Or is it a case of if he can't have it then nobody can?
I'm sure the likes of Kathleen Stock can empathise with him having been on the receiving end of even worse.

I agree, he's been jailed for contempt of court, not what the headline is implying.

Well I don't know why you're asking me, but I imagine that since they had a perfectly good candidate, but mob rule means they have to get rid of him, then employment law doesn't allow you to just employ somebody else willy nilly for exactly the same role. You have to abandon the role and say it's no longer available.

The level of misunderstanding around this is astounding.

Aveline Tue 06-Sept-22 20:28:46

Volver it's not personal! No need to be so aggressive in your responses.
I've no idea what you're on about re 'Jon Snow' btw.

volver Tue 06-Sept-22 20:38:20

I am furious about this Aveline, it's disgraceful. It's antediluvian and people need to get into the 21st century. Some hope.

"We don't want a man so we won't have anybody", that's where we've ended up. Cut off their noses to spite their faces

The Jon Snow thing is from Game of Thrones.

happycatholicwife1 Tue 06-Sept-22 20:52:45

I think perhaps his point of returning to the school was so that his viewpoint, held by many others, didn't just get swept under the rug by his firing. He's doing what a lot of other people have done, protesting non-violently to support his beliefs. On the other topic, Period Dignity Officer sounds like some jokey woke position dreamed up by the far left. How much money was wasted on that kerfuffle? I think, as far as that goes, hiring a man was ridiculous. I think the post is ridiculous, but hiring a man for it is even more ridiculous. He could not even remotely possibly, by definition, be the most experienced, qualified person for the job.

volver Tue 06-Sept-22 21:05:42

I repeat...

You know nothing Jon Snow.

Do the whole Scottish Parliament count as far left jokey wokes in your world happycatholicwife? Including the Tory members?

Farmor15 Tue 06-Sept-22 21:14:06

There's a lot more background to the jailed teacher. He disrupted an end of term service last June and was harassing the school principal, which is really why the injunction was taken out against him. He belongs to a family who have been notorious for their behaviour in recent years. Some more information here:

Victory for common sense.
Great news.

Nothing dignified in a young girl having to talk about her periods with a man.

volver Tue 06-Sept-22 21:27:04

Just as well that wasn't the job then, eh?

volver Tue 06-Sept-22 21:33:03

I suppose the thing that bothers me so much about this, is that so many people have jumped to conclusions about what the job is. There is so much assumption, and indignation, and sometimes even dismissal of the need to implement this policy, which the Scottish Parliament voted for unanimously.

So what else do people think they know about, when they don't even know even part of the story? No wonder we're in a mess in this country.

Nanatoone Tue 06-Sept-22 21:33:54

I’m all for there being great support for young girls having periods. I couldn’t care less if the person in charge was a man. So many young girls today don’t have sanitary protection in the amounts they need and they suffer terribly. Honestly. peopel need to grow up about these issues. Men have daughters and wives/partners, they are not ignorant of what goes on. This seemed a sensible initiative to me. What a shame that it has been closed down by petty and somewhat ignorant (it seems to me) opinion.

kircubbin2000 Tue 06-Sept-22 21:36:10

Ridiculous idea, certainly not suited for a man.

Iam64 Tue 06-Sept-22 21:37:30

I’m definitely in the 21st century. That doesn’t mean I’d appoint a man to a post that imo, fits with legislation that allows the person appointed to be female.

The extent of your anger intrigues me volver. I’m all for equality of opportunity, I accept that in most areas of employment the best person can and should be appointed. Periods/young women particularly - women needed.

There’s increasing research that women are poorly served in male dominated medicine.
