Prime Ministers that should have been.

I am not a very political animal but I read a lot and try and understand what I can.

I always felt John Smith would have been a strong leader and was hoping he would become PM.
Had he lived I don’t think Blair would ever have been PM.

Who do you think would have made a good Prime Minister?

I had a lot of time for Neil Kinnock, even before he was Labour leader, and was so disappointed in the road he and his wife took, but I must agree with John Smith.

Another John Smith vote here, definitely a thumbs down for Neil Kinnock

Pass me the smelling salts! (With the exception of John Smith.)

John Smith, Tony Benn, Michael Foot, Jeremy Corbyn with Jeremy we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now if he had been rightfully elected. The NHS wouldn't be sold off climate emergency would have been tackled with the Green New Deal Utilities nationalised. The right got their way what are they doing?

Going back into the mists of history Rab Butler was always said to have been the best Prime Minister we never had.
Agree about Alan Johnson, he grew up just down the road from me.

I have never voted Labour in my life, but if David Milliband stood for PM,he would have had my vote.

A few of you have mentioned Alan Johnson, he was a fabulous politician.
His wife’s infidelity prevented him from running for leadership.
How sad but what a gentleman for giving up the possibility of a top job to spare his wife the grief of further press intrusion.

John Smith and Yvette Cooper for me and possibly Ed Balls.

Well we would have been saved her performance on Strictly.
No PM would surely do that?! Ever!

That is an interesting list of people and I would not disagree with any of them - what a lot of talent in that list for any govt job and compare them to the recent bunch - well there is no comparison really. When I see Sarah Smith reporting for the BBC I often think how her life and that of her mother must have suddenly changed so much when she was a young girl.

Alan Johnson without a doubt.
