Shall we have a thread about it?

It will be interesting (I hope)

MrsKen33 Wed 07-Sept-22 18:06:15

It’s the slightly manic Truss smile that gets to me.?

I’m wondering if Therese Coffey , who apparently likes a drink and a smoke and is overweight is the best person for health minister….

I will more interested in how well she can do the job
I am overweight smoke and used to drink was still pretty efficient I'm my career

Were you in charge of the Health system/NHS?

Obviously not but her physical characteristics and her personal habits make not a jot of difference to her ability to get the job done

Wasn’t Ken Clarke Health minister (1988-1990) I do not recall anyone objecting to his waistline, drinking or cigar smoking.

This health minister?

Fleurpepper Wed 07-Sept-22 17:10:09

Is everyone in the new Cabinet in the ERG.

Don't we deserve to know? We still haven't seen that list, have we?

I found she spoke quite well but then I am comparing her with Johnson

I have just listened to PMQs and I am pleasantly surprised because she sounded quite grown up. Still, she speaks as if her government is taking over from years of incompetency ....oh wait, it is. I hope she has a well developed sense of irony.

Although he may have been making allowances for the excitement of the new term and the new leader, I thought that The Speaker was very poor in controlling the noise, especially when anyone non Tory was speaking. There is always a fair bit of racket, but today Starmer sat down at least once, looked to Hoyle for guidance and had to stand up and continue during the baying. As for Cleverley, what an idiot he looked with his jeering and hand gestures. Truss did speak better than I expected, but that's all she did; speak. She didn't really say anything.

Yet again Speaker only came down heavy on the opposition even though the government benches were as noisy as ever. So nothing has changed there then. I must admit that I found Truss quite competent.

I’m picking up the dropped aitches…….

Zonne Wed 07-Sept-22 14:26:54

I think Hoyle is a dreadful Speaker, and always has been.

Ian Dunt of the Independent has just made a similar point about the gulf between how Truss talks (bland) and the policies she is talking about, which are anything but.

Callistemon21 Wed 07-Sept-22 14:05:39

I'm off out, what a shame ?

I look forward to catching up with this thread when I come home.

Starmer charismatic ??? Never!

I didn't say he was, charismatic. Just that she made him look it in comparison with her.

FannyCornforth Wed 07-Sept-22 14:03:42

And I agree with everything that you just said Farzanah
This is all going terribly well, isn’t it? smile

MaizieD Wed 07-Sept-22 14:03:08

I was a bit startled when she told the person from a modest background, who, through his own efforts, became a top barrister and Director of Public Prosecutions, that his party wasn't a party of 'aspiration.'

Nothing like trotting out a tired old cliche...

Farzanah Wed 07-Sept-22 13:42:33

I agree about The Speaker HPQ.

Farzanah Wed 07-Sept-22 13:41:24

I (as a left winger) thought she actually did rather well. Anything would have been a refreshing change from Johnson’s mumbling, avoiding answering the question, and turning round to supporters for laughs with his shirt hanging out.
She at least answered the questions and seemed direct and business like. I like the fact that she has a women as health minister. It seemed less like an old boys club atmosphere.

Having said all that it’s policies that count, and I don’t agree with her on her fiscal policies at all, similar have failed in the past. You can change the PM but you can’t change the party sad and we’re in for a very difficult time during the next few months.

twinnytwin Wed 07-Sept-22 13:33:08

I thought that she did remarkably better than expected tbh, especially as it'd been suggested on GN that Starmer would completely overwhelm her. Did you watch the programme following with Iain Duncan-smith and Emily Thornberry. Very interesting discussion between them both.

Nanna58 Wed 07-Sept-22 13:24:49

Poor woman , she has as much charisma as the item my grandad wore for his hernia that had the same name as her !

FannyCornforth Wed 07-Sept-22 13:21:49

I hope that dealings in the HoC will now be a bit more mature.
Johnson and Starmer didn’t bring out the best in each other.
I’d rather have wooden any day as opposed to the way Johnson carries on

JenniferEccles Wed 07-Sept-22 13:17:59

It won’t be a complete disaster, but that matters not one jot to those on here who will claim it was regardless.
