It sounds worrying, doesn’t it?

Queen Elizabeth II: A day-by-day guide from now to the funeral www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62861617

is very informative about the next few days.

You may be able to make a more exact estimate by working backwards from the Westminster lying-in-state, as reported in ITV news online -

"The Queen will also lie in state at Westminster Hall in central London.

Traditionally, lying in state begins five days after the day of death - known operationally as D+5.

The Queen died on Thursday, September 8, but because the announcement came relatively late - around 6.30pm - plans have moved by a day to allow time for the complex arrangements to be made.

The Queen's lying in state at Westminster Hall will therefore begin on Wednesday, September 14.

There will first be a ceremonial procession through London, taking in The Mall, Horse Guards, Whitehall, Parliament Square, and New Palace Yard.

After the coffin's arrival at Westminster Hall, the Archbishop of Canterbury will conduct a short service, which will be attended by members of the royal family.

Once that service ends, there will be the opportunity for politicians and dignitaries to pay their respects to the Queen.

Shortly afterwards, Westminster Hall will be opened to the public. Hundreds of thousands of people will file past the coffin on its catafalque and pay their respects, as they did for the Queen Mother's lying in state in 2002.

Senior royals are also expected to pay their own tribute, standing guard at some stage around the coffin in a tradition known as the Vigil of the Princes.

The Queen will lie in state for four clear days, until the morning of her funeral.

So, there will be a procession taking her from Holyrood to St Giles at at 14:35BST in the afternoon of Monday 12th Sept. She will be lying in state in St Giles for 24 hours starting from that afternoon.

Lots of detail about the next few days - the route from Balmorea to Edinburgh and the road closures in Edinburgh centre for the journey and the procession etc. at www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-62862148

I through William and Catherine lived at Anglesey when they were first married? Perhaps I'm wrong, but I know they lived away from the limelight for a while and William was an air ambulance pilot.

paddyann54 Sat 10-Sept-22 22:26:41

My cousin who was born and lives in South wales says theres a massive petition doing the rounds to stop the title Prince of Wales being used again.
She says the Welsh ,herself included believe an Englih prince ha no right to use it as it was taken(stolen) illegally and that there has been a lot of interest in the petition with signature numbers rising fast .
Will we see a rise in the Welsh Independence movement?

Callistemon21 Sat 10-Sept-22 22:34:04

Massive?

No sign of it here yet.
Ah yes, change.org, struggling to reach 10,000 signatures.

Callistemon21 Sat 10-Sept-22 22:37:37

Will we see a rise in the Welsh Independence movement?

Oh goodness, will we see the signposts turned round again?
Never mind, believe the satnav for once.

You are correct and Catherine used to be seen regularly in the local shops.

William was an RAF Search and Rescue pilot when they lived in Anglesey. He became a pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service when he left the RAF.

Without Wallis Simpson we wouldn’t have had the Queen

Well, unless Edward V111 had married someone else and gone on to have a family, she would still have ended up as Queen surely? We shall never know how things may have turned out.

The walkabout at Windsor looked somewhat forced. Harry with his hand across his tummy as he walks always looks like he is suffering from indigestion, and Meghan looked awkward and out of her depth. Did Catherine ever say anything to her?

Don’t think so.

I read that Charles rang William and asked him to hold out the olive branch to H&M.

If it were me, I wouldn't trust H&M an inch unless H cancelled his book deal for a start.

tickingbird Sun 11-Sept-22 08:11:40

According to Lady Colin Campbell all is not well behind the scenes and Meghan has pulled some kind of stunt. She wouldn’t say what but that woman (LCC) does come across as slightly unhinged!

Aveline Sun 11-Sept-22 08:12:43

William just swallowing his understandable resentment and just doing the right thing. A horrible time for them all.

Anniebach Sun 11-Sept-22 08:19:07

William ,Andrew, Edward and Sophie flew together to Scotland, Harry went later on his own, Harry left on his own at 8.00am the following morning,

Volver, first of all anyone that wrongly accuses another person(s) of things that have been found to be untrue and to promote sympathy for themselves at any cost to the other party, could be taken to court. Megan was welcomed with open arms into the Royal family. The British public couldn't have made her more welcome. She knew what the role would entail when she married, she wasn’t a naive young thing. Her actions caused so much hurt and Harry supported her. From the start she made it clear, we were not allowed to see a picture of babies, the sudden announcement they were moving to America leaving the family reeling, the lies about Charles cutting them off. You might well think this is acceptable moral behaviour but most if us do not. Our Queen, calmly doing her duty with all the worry of that and Andrew, at an age when many had been retired 30 years. So if that is others moral compass it certainly isn’t mine.
Kate and William will be excellent in their roles as Princess and Prince of Wales, their duties are many as you will see if you read up on it.

Allsorts Sun 11-Sept-22 08:48:56

I do think ITV have done a good job, usually I watch BBC, I do have a break from it though. The footage last night that the Queen herself had filmed was lovely, that very close bond with her family and with her grandmother Mary and their connection with Balmoral was enlightening. So I am flitting between those two when I do catch up on it.

volver Sun 11-Sept-22 09:36:28

Well Allsorts I'm not sure why you felt the need to launch into a detailed description of what you consider to be the Duchess of Sussex's faults on this thread about the passing of the Queen, but it rather reinforces what I said on a completely different thread. To paraphrase, some people can't help showing themselves for what they really are.

I'm quite interested in the whole Prince of Wales thing, but I might start a new thread to avoid plunging this one into personal animosity.

People put a negative spin on everything she does; things which could be interpreted in an entirely different way.

Not allowed to see pictures of her babies - would you want pics of your newborns in all the papers, while struggling with being a new Mum? Why should she not make this decision? What is wrong with it?

Why should they not choose to go and live in America? Anyone else could do that without approbation falling on their heads.

Lies about Charles cutting them off? We do not know what went on behind the scenes, so cannot make a judgement on this. Clearly there was a disagreement about Charles' decision/s. I do not know what goes on behind the scenes in your family; and the royal family quite understandably plat their cards close to their chests.

What I think is immoral is vilifying someone in the press in the absence of facts.

I have no axe to grind on behalf of H&M - I just think fairness is important. Some people seem to be personally hurt that their idea of a fairy tale princess and happy ending has not happened - it was never going to. One woman cannot live out the fantasies of millions - she just has her life to lead.

Jaberwok Sun 11-Sept-22 09:58:50

Totally agree with Allsorts, the walkabout was clearly a damage control exercise that William and Catherine had undertaken. Who knows what the Sussex's have planned, lets hope Harry cancels his memoirs, and the funeral doesn't end up on Netflix. I won't be holding my breath!!

tickingbird Sun 11-Sept-22 10:02:48

He won’t cancel his memoirs. Too much money at stake and he’d have to pay back the large advance.

Anniebach Sun 11-Sept-22 10:03:52

I too agree with Allsorts And yes I think they will make money from this .

Aveline Sun 11-Sept-22 10:06:09

How big is "massive"? It often means "me and my friends on Twitter".

In this "all about me" technology-fed world, individuals often feel they can, or should have, a great deal more say than is possible or right for the nation. Sometimes, decisions need to be at a higher level for the optimum, not the individual outcome.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 11-Sept-22 10:11:04

The book will still be published, maybe delayed, and they will make money from the Queen’s death and funeral. It’s distasteful.
