Images and thoughts of today

What beautiful services today - and us British do pomp and ceremony like nobody else. I was up early to watch everything - although I did do a batch of laundry and hung it out, honestly never heard of it being disrespectful! Glad the royal family got their own private ceremony this evening - it must have been a nightmare trying to keep up a calm front when they have to grieve in front of both our nation and the world. Its possible that billions of people will have watched the funeral on tv internationally - just staggering!

I thought the flower throwing was rather nice, strewing flowers for a queen. I liked it that some were still on the hearse when it arrived at Windsor.

Did no-one notice the Queen's gun dog on the other side of the road from the Fell pony Mr Attenbrough? Shame the cameras didn't pick that up, too.

My son had to be in central London late this afternoon to meet a foreign delegation for his job - long preplanned, couldn’t be changed.

He said it was so odd, as it was very busy but also very quiet.

When I walked out to watch the funeral the only sound was a single robin tweeting in a little tree,no traffic at all and I’m in a town! Never known it so quiet.

Apparently it was rosemary and myrtle with roses and flowers taken from Highgrove and Buckingham Palace.

Very quiet here too........although I am more than a little disappointed that my neighbour has a line of washing pegged out! and no! he does have young children either so that can't be his excuse.

Why, the weather is good for drying. I don't think you should be disappointed. It's up to him.

Actually, it has. been damp and overcast here today so really not ideal for drying.
For as long as I can remember no one in our family has ever pegged out the washing when we knew there was going to be a funeral - we have always thought it to be disrespectful to do so. But each to their own, just a question of standards.

What an earth do you mean, just a question of standards??? A good drying day here today so I pegged out a line of washing..

I thought the flowers were lovely, so much nicer than the rather funereal white ones. The Lord Chamberlain breaking his staff and putting it on the coffin was a very final moment wasn't it? I was watching the procession and my phone pinged My immediate reaction was "DD's seen the pony" and she had!

DD took GS2 to Windsor to look at the flowers yesterday and said the atmosphere was wonderful.

The lone piper did it for me ? Did I hear correct that he was the piper who woke her up every morning?

My mum died 8 years ago today so I went to the memorial site at 8am where her ashes are scattered ! It was so quiet everywhere just like lockdown again ! As I arrived my brother rang me from Australia! I got home in time for the funeral ! A very poignant day for our family

Everything was done to perfection and they should all be so proud of making it such a momentous occasion for us all to remember the rest of our days. She will be missed.

This is Images and thoughts of Today

A brilliant day and a wonderful send off for the Queen. But now we must think about all the other elderly people in this country who cannot afford to feed or keep themselves warm this winter and the families who have to depend on food banks and whose children go to school without a breakfast. All those people who will not be able to lead a long and healthy life because of underfunding and staffing in the NHS. With such disparity between those who have and those who don’t we mustn’t get blinded by today’s show of wealth and populace,

A very quiet morning when I walked to my daughter’s house to watch the funeral of HM the Queen. A smartly dressed older gentleman was walking briskly towards me complete with beret and a row of many medals. I guess he was an ex serviceman on his way to some commemorative event. We exchanged a polite good morning. It set the tone for me for the rest of the day. Quietly watching the state funeral on TV, eating consoling goodies and trying to ignore the antics of various grandchildren and puppies!

I really liked the constant beat of the drum. It was quite a distance to march, keeping to the beat.

Great admiration for the coffin bearers. Like a lot of others, I was holding my breath!
