Labour Party policy beginning to be formed

Very pleased to see Rupa Huq has been suspended for her vile comments

In a speech yesterday I think it was there was the promise to build more social housing. There was recognition that not everyone wants or can afford to buy their own home.

Good to hear about a national energy company, owned by us and for our benefit (I have nothing against French taxpayers, but I was rather it was us that benefit). I do hope that he sticks to that.

Not so sure about the emphasis on home ownership though, it is not for everyone and a secure tenancy with an affordable rent is the best choice for a great many people. Looking after a property when you live alone is hard, renting can give more peace of mind, if it is run fairly.

All in all though, a good speech.

Well, many of those claiming that labour no longer represents them helped get this Tory party into power, with all the catastrophic disasters associated with them.

So excuse me for feeling exasperated at them. We warned what would happen, but apparently they knew best.??

It is possible to agree broadly while having different views on the specifics. Sometimes party evangelists remind me of religious ones for whom it is not enough to believe in the same basic thing, you must believe in that thing in exactly the same way the evangelist does. Eventually people can give up on the overall view of those politics or that religion. Evangelists deter more than they win over.

I came out from under the duvet where I was escaping from ERGTory World, to watch Keir Starmer. Much good in the speech and very confidently given. You can feel the positive vibe and it's good for it not to be overwhelmed by infighting. That has been slow hard work for KS so very well done him.

I am not saying that Whitewave has insulted anyone, I think WW is a very sensible and pleasant poster, but I also know that people who supported the previous manifesto have been called "looney lefties* etc.
We need to come together and as the conference so far has not been disrupted by the more left wing members, they are behaving much more sensibly and with decency.

I know exactly where you are coming from.

But I am very much hoping that the tide in now turning. It won’t happen overnight, but listening to Starmer’s speech I can believe that it is going to happen.

He may allude to it, but it's foolish as a leader and as a leader who may not win an outright victory, to give it away completely in their manifesto.

It was former Labour voters who rejected Labour under Corbyn and its good manifesto. And who then constantly said that Labour didn't represent them...

Our red wall seat was lost, anyone canvassing then will confirm people told us they’d never vote corbyn as PM. I heard so often - he won’t keep us safe, does t care about defence and is friends with the wrong people.
People who don’t know what labour stands for could do worse than listen when shadow ministers or starmer speak
To say Starmer doesn’t understand working/ordinary people is simply not true as his working life demonstrates

Most of what was written about Corbyn was lies, made up by the right wing press to prevent Labour from winning the last GE. Labour had some very good policies which were costed but dismissed as being too expensive. The Tories are now borrowing huge amounts, in order to fund tax reductions for the wealthy and to support the energy companies, rather than have a windfall tax.

Despite all of this there will still be working, low paid voters who will vote Tory at the next election.

But the Tories have been in power for 12 years Whitewave the people who feel they are not being represented by Keir Starmer 's party are not responsible in any way for this Government. Those who didn't like the previous policies under the previous Labour leader are far more culpable.
That is why it would have been so much better to try and unite both camps instead of driving people away.

I don’t agree, I think the only chance of Labour being elected is to do what Keir Starmer has done. The left of the party have damaged its reputation with the public because they are ‘on a mission’, and are unwilling/unable to compromise, whereas he, and the majority of party members have realised that to be popular enough to govern, you have to listen to what the electorate is telling you. The future is moderate left politics, and if to achieve that the diehards on the left have no option but to form their own party that has to be.

Actually ladies, I do not need either a grip or a gripe.
Being contemptuous of previous Labour voters is partly why the last election was lost in the red wall areas.
I think Mr Starmer will prove to be a good PM but you need to understand why people think as they do.

You all need to get a gripe and listen to what is being said. I advise you listen to Starmer today, and then come back with your thoughts. Also did you not listen to Reeves speech yesterday?

I shall watch Starmers speech even though I am not normally a labour voter. I would like to hear what their plans are for the future.
But if labour are to win the next election it would be better if they could win it on merit not just because the Conservative party are doing badly.
They are obviously flying high in the polls at the moment that is no surprise.
We probably quite a long time until the next general election they are obviously hoping the tories risk on the economy is going to fail I personally hope it doesn't.

Disgusted with Liz Truss and that budget,it's an insult. Low paid workers should have had the tax threshold raised, not the super rich have there's lowered. She won't last long.
There is not a party for the ordinary working person now it's all woke and quotas not whose best, no one has the gumption to stand up when things are not right. Every thing is ticking boxes.
I am very disappointed . Labour isn't Labour.
