Well, I like Angela Rayner

Apologies if this is being discussed elsewhere - I couldn’t find it, but think it deserved its own thread. On local radio she said
“Through the energy price guarantee, the maximum will be £2,500” (Radio Leeds)
and also said
“no family, no household will pay over £2,500” (CNN)
This is wrong and could lull some into a false state of security. This is just the average household use. The total bill is not capped, if you leave your heating on full blast day and night you will pay more than £2,500. If you consume less, you will pay less. Is she deliberately misleading or does she not understand her own policies? Why did no sharp interviewer pull her up on this one?
Well, I like Angela Rayner
With what she has, Angela Rayner became the first woman MP in the 180-year history of her Ashton-under-Lyne constituency.
She was promoted to the shadow whip’s office, then went on to hold the position of Shadow Pensions Minister, before becoming a member of the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Secretary of State for Education.
In March 2020, Angela was elected as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. She is also Shadow First Secretary of State, Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Shadow Secretary of State for the Future of Work.
I do wonder how many of us can claim such a meteoric rise with or without the education you seem to feel she ought to have. I wonder what your education is that make you feel you can put down others?
I am not a Labour Party member nor a supporter, but I do support those who make a success of their lives despite a difficult start. You ask if Angela Rayner, to whom you apply the one of the most prejudiced descriptions I have seen on GN, would make a good Deputy Prime Minister. My answer would be yes, with that CV, she would.
Now do tell us what you have done with your life that makes you an expert on these things. Or can you only show intolerance and discrimination?
representing the UK on the world stage she might look OK but once she open her mouth doesn't bare thinking about
Serves me right for not reading all the posts first.
I thought whoever posted that meant Liz Truss.
It's not how you speak, it's what you say that matters.
Sorry I lost the quote attached to my last post. It was in reply to Maudi Sat 01-Oct-22 09:13:37
vegansrock the interviewer probably didn't understand the price cap either so couldn't ask the right questions. Are Liz and Kwasi the new Harry and Meghan
So next week her speech is going to be pretty vital. She has to talk to her MPs - who are in utter despair - the voting public - who has rated her public standing as the lowest ever and the markets who have already voiced their opinion. On top of which she is a very poor communicator - look at her radio broadcast this week.
Whitewave I do wish that Sunak, Davis, Javid and Stride would not boycott the conference and do go in order to challenge her.
Althugh I suppose if Sunak did that, it would be put down as sour grapes by some.
It's always stupid to ignore the experts and act as if you know better.
If I recall correctly, the Tory party conference is scripted to within an inch of its life and there is no challenging or questions from the floor, so those 4 being there would require them to stand in the front row and clap enthusiastically. Much better not to be there at all and make their point that way.

Maudi has repeated the note story time and time again and has been told time and time again the correct version. There is absolutely no convincing a completely closed mind.
In the meantime I'm a bit surprised at minimal reaction to the story I labouriously c&p'd last night. ☹️MaizieD - when the 'phone shuts up and people stop knocking at my door (etc!), I'm going to read your C&P again. I skimmed through it, and despair started to descend over me...
No pressure, Dickens ?
Worth following the link and reading the rest, for a 'slight' bit of cheer...

And no-one outside the UK would even know that she had a regional accent. We all sound the same to them...

When I worked in Norway, it took me years before I could distinguish one regional accent from another, though I was assured they were very different. But not to my foreign ears.
The only way I could detect where a person originated was by a particular phrase or word that would be used traditionally in one region but not another.
My parner who is Swedish though fluent in English has been here 40 years and can only now detect accents - sometimes.
I believe it's true - we do all sound the same to a foreign ear. No-one on the 'world stage' is going to say "Oh goodness, listen to her accent..."
Maudithe national debt was @ £800 MILLION when the tories came to power , a manageable amount .
Now its @ £3 Trillion with nothong to show for the increase and leaders who believe its fine to throw cash at their mates.
The famous NOTE was a joke .what has followed is not even remotely funny!!

I am unclear why an accent should make you unfit as an MP!
What accent does make you fit? Most MPs have an accent. It is all such ignorant nonsense, and sheer snobbery.

I think it is organised in a way that doesn't allow people to do that - other than in interviews to the press.
I think Truss will have an easy ride next week compared to her return to parliament.
Many MPs who didn’t vote for her have stayed away, and of those, some are looking to vote down aspects of the budget.
We are being told by Truss’s team to prepare for austerity.
We’ve had 12 years of this nonsense and where has it got us?
Make no mistake, this is ideological and deliberate economic policy to continue with reducing the state.
Not deliberately lying - simply out of her depth and lacking experience. The Tories have scraped the barrel. What can one expect?
She was referred to somewhere in the news as ‘ The Malfunctioning Robot’ best description so far !
Most of the welfare budget goes on
Pensions
In-work benefits
Housing support
Anywhere the axe falls will mean hardship for the poor.
Oops sorry volver has already said this.
Just spoken to my NDN who is a sort of high-earner and asked him jokingly when he was going to contribute to the 'trickle-down'.
He made a gesture of one hand-giving and the other taking-back.
Apparently he'll use his tax cut to service the increase in his monthly mortgage...
Austerity saw a huge rise in food banks, and child poverty.
What will this next round do to our poor?

She's been a minister of some sort or another for nearly 12 years, including the supposedly senior, responsible, and prestigious Foreign Secretary post.
I think 'lacking experience' is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
I think Liz Truss is very bright. Maybe not so politically savvy but I think she would buy and sell most of us in the brain department. Love her or loathe her.
