A few photos and speeches from today’s protest in Edinburgh. Includes the wonderful Elaine Miller (@GussieGrips), Maya Forstater and Helen Joyce. I had planned to go but have had a hellish bad chest infection for a couple of weeks that has me exhausted.

No that was an error on my part as I meant the Scottish government would approve/ reject the laws in Scotland rather than relying on the decisions of one women. The same applies to governments in other parts of the UK.
Apart from my connection with Women won’t Wheesht, and what I read about trans matters decisions about Scotland are for Scotland.

paddyann54 Thu 06-Oct-22 20:55:10

Its not Scotlands job to police England,Wales or NI only to do whats right for Scotland .As they did today passing a bill to cap rents and stop evictions until at least March 2023 .I'm more than sure we are capable of making our own decisions despite what the MSM and folk like Aveline tell you !

the trans issues will be dealt with by the parliament not JUST Ms Sturgeon.Meantime she and they are doing more for children in poverty and families than any other part of this DIS united kingdom .
We are being denied democracy by Truss ...for now .It wont be for long

Mollygo Thu 06-Oct-22 20:39:13

Volver: My only comment would be that we don't live in a dictatorship up here and the Scottish Government will approve or dismiss this law, not one woman.
This is true.
Hopefully the Scottish Government will also look into the law in all parts of the UK that endorses the housing of TIM with females and supported by NS.

Prentice Thu 06-Oct-22 20:24:15

I hope the Scottish politicians will not agree Annie1 but why would Ms Sturgeon be supporting the militant trans lobby anyway?

Anniel Thu 06-Oct-22 20:18:38

So sorry the article is behind a Paywall, but I did not know about the Daily Mail. Quite frankly, I had no idea that Ms Sturgeon supported the more militant Trans lobby. Whatever her politics, I always had her down as a practical woman. So maybe she is comfortable that the Scottish politicians will not agree.

Aveline Thu 06-Oct-22 20:13:34

JK Rowling does a lot of good for a lot of people on the quiet. She puts her money where her mouth is. She's not a bundle of laughs and has had difficult times in her life. I think she well understands the need to support women's rights.

Prentice Thu 06-Oct-22 20:07:43

Aveline

JK's not looking sour - just rightly fed up.
Meanwhile in Iran. Such brave women. It's vital to protect women's hard won rights wherever they're under threat.

You are so right Aveline and I am surprised that not many are commenting on the Iran thread, the situation there is so appalling for young women, being murdered by the so called modesty police.I am hoping there will be a groundswell of support for them all over the world, particularly from here in the West.
I am a great fan of JKRowling , not the books, they are not my cup of tea, but for standing up for women's rights.

Aveline Thu 06-Oct-22 18:20:09

She's terrific. I wish there were more like her.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 06-Oct-22 17:48:59

Rowling not Riwing grrr

GrannyGravy13 Thu 06-Oct-22 17:48:21

Ms Rowing, one of her charitable trusts.

Definitely pro womens rights

Aveline Thu 06-Oct-22 17:40:49

volver Thu 06-Oct-22 17:25:46

Who's that looking sour again?

Oh yes....

Aveline Thu 06-Oct-22 17:24:54

JK Rowling doesn't mess about. Her t shirt calls Nicola Sturgeon 'destroyer of women's rights'!

Elegran Thu 06-Oct-22 17:17:47

Anniel You can send your opinio, whiatever it is, n direct to the horse's mouth, where it will have more effect than preaching to the converted on Gransnet.

If you live in Scotland and would like to help protect the rights of women and girls, you can find template questions to ask your MSPs at forwomen.scot/grr/ and you can find emails for each of your 8 MSPs at the link below.
www.writetothem.com/

If you are not in Scotland, you can still get in touch with the First Minister at [email protected] .

volver Thu 06-Oct-22 17:00:28

I've learnt never to get involved in trans threads. I value my sanity too much.

My only comment would be that we don't live in a dictatorship up here and the Scottish Government will approve or dismiss this law, not one woman. Sour or not.

MerylStreep Thu 06-Oct-22 16:59:09

The Mail article.

The Article is behind a paywall. The article is also in the Mail.

Esspee Thu 06-Oct-22 16:55:14

The article is behind a paywall Annie1.

Allsorts Thu 06-Oct-22 16:53:29

I don’t agree with anything she says, she always looks and sounds sour.

Anniel Thu 06-Oct-22 16:52:19

I was outraged when I read this article. As a woman I do not accept that you can change your gender without medical intervention. I would be interested in the views of GRANSNET members on Ms Sturgeon’s action. I realise we are all entitled to our opinions, but I am interested to learn what others think. Maybe you agree with Ms Sturgeon.
