Seems Liz Truss means business - no sleaze on her watch.

From the Guardian:

“We have suspended the whip pending investigation into allegations of inappropriate behaviour earlier this week. We take all such allegations extremely seriously. The prime minister has been clear that the highest standards in public life must be upheld.

Burns was an extremely close ally of Boris Johnson, as one of his inner circle who helped him through the various scandals that beset his premiership.

He was formerly a Northern Ireland minister before Liz Truss made him trade minister in September.

Burns previously had to resign as a trade minister in 2020 after being found to have used his position to try to intimidate a member of the public.”

Good.

well i'd never heard of him, nor seen his picture, and knew nothing about him.
when this was announced last night i correctly guessed what it was all about.
so predictable.
feeling only moderately smug.

I prefer Oxford or Cambridge dictionaries to the Merriam Webster dictionary, simply because meanings of words may differ slightly in different English-speaking countries.

Rumours are that he was drunk and offensive around the fringe LBTQ+ conservatives meeting. Involving calling men fa&&ots . Nice. Allegedly.

That's odd. Conor Burns is gay.

curiouser and curiouser. Mind you, being heterosexual didn't stop other sex offenders.

I agree, but it's strange for a gay man to call another gay man a fa&&ot.

Ladyripple wasn't, by any dictionary definition, being rude

It depends which dictionary.
Definitions may vary.

rude adjective (NOT POLITE)
dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/rude

The poster made a comment about Truss's extra marital affair. There was nothing even impolite about mentioning it, let alone rude.

If anyone was rude it was Joseanne for telling her off about it.

Excuse me. When was using the verb "to object to" a rude comment please?
I have copied from my Oxford Dictionary .... tovexpress disapproval or opposition.

More sleaze

Exc: No10 lobbying up to 8 MPs nominated for peerages in Boris Johnson’s upcoming resignation honours list to defer them to 2024 to spare Truss by-election humiliation

But plan is constitutionally unprecedented and risks showdown with King, experts warn

There seems to be some doubt (see today's Times) as to whether the alleged act complained of by a 'witness' (but not the 'victim') was consensual. But Truss is clearly anxious to be seen as having a government whiter than white. Given Kwarteng's monumental mess up of a mini-budget I think she should sack him.

Apparently, he was a bit handsy with another bloke. He said it was consensual. He should be allowed his say before being sacked.

Petera

Why did she appoint someone who was sacked only two years ago after investigation by the standards committee?

This is more to the point.

He wasn't "clean" to appoint in the first place.

In the absence of guidance from the government, people are sharing their tips on how to deal with the energy crises.

The top tip.

Don’t vote conservative

Joseanne, I agree with your sentiments, but they will be ignored by the small group of posters from the Miranda Hughes-I care- SO -passionately -about- my- beliefs -that -it- entitles -me- to-be -as- rude- as- I -like- to -anyone -who- doesn't- share -them School of Political Thought.

Ladyripple wasn't, by any dictionary definition, being rude with her initial comment. It might have been tediously repetitive to some, but definitely not 'rude'. Neither was her second comment...

This was mentioned in the BBC news this morning, Mr Burns has had the party whip removed and been sacked from his job due to inappropriate behaviour at the Conservative Party Conference earlier this week

Good that the PM has acted so quickly,

As for Ms.Truss having an affair years ago, we are not party to why it happened nor do we need to know. As long as it doesn’t effect her ability to do her job it really is nobody’s business other than those involved.
