Seems Liz Truss means business - no sleaze on her watch.

From the Guardian:

“We have suspended the whip pending investigation into allegations of inappropriate behaviour earlier this week. We take all such allegations extremely seriously. The prime minister has been clear that the highest standards in public life must be upheld.

Burns was an extremely close ally of Boris Johnson, as one of his inner circle who helped him through the various scandals that beset his premiership.

He was formerly a Northern Ireland minister before Liz Truss made him trade minister in September.

Burns previously had to resign as a trade minister in 2020 after being found to have used his position to try to intimidate a member of the public.”

Good.

It won't save her. She is lightly browned bread with marmalade spread on it.

Urmstongran Fri 07-Oct-22 17:10:50

True, but this is heartening all the same I think.

Casdon Fri 07-Oct-22 17:12:55

Until we know what exactly the allegation is, it’s not possible to say whether she had any choice but to act though surely?

Good grief

Liz Truss blocks energy saving campaign ‘on ideological grounds’.’

Can this get any more ridiculous?

'Nanny state'. Wwmk2'

It's every person for themselves. Can't offer any help...

I’ll think this will go down as more sleaze. We know Johnson would have tried to brush it under the carpet and she’s trying to avoid that which is a good thing. But it shouldn’t be happening - why was this person appointed ? It won’t make her batshit policies anymore popular though.

Urmstongran Fri 07-Oct-22 18:10:52

Maybe not vegansrock (I’m not keen on her as PM) but this is a step in the right direction.

Petera Fri 07-Oct-22 18:12:49

Why did she appoint someone who was sacked only two years ago after investigation by the standards committee?

Ladyripple Fri 07-Oct-22 18:24:05

Well she has had at least one extra marital affair! Hardly a paragon of virtue herself.

HousePlantQueen Fri 07-Oct-22 18:25:59

I would think more of her if she sacked the Chancellor for gambling with my pension funds.

I do object to these comments on nearly every thread. Especially on one yesterday where Truss' teenage school children were alluded to in the same sentence.
Not a paragon of virtue for sure, but not a necessary swipe to take at the slightest opportunity.

Do we know what he's meant to have done? A consensual affair is not in the same ballpark as some of the things that ministers have survived doing. I'm not defending Truss' actions, but if everyone who'd had an affair got sacked, there would be a pretty slimmed down workforce.

I object to Liz Truss being the Prime Minister.I have zero interest whether you object to my comment or not.

I object to the conservatives being in power whoever their leader is.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 08-Oct-22 06:59:26

Oh, there will be sleaze - it is what the Tories do.

This was not the right kind of sleaze. Cronyism and backhanders are the right sort.

Sara1954 Sat 08-Oct-22 07:37:42

The one and only thing she’s said or done that I approve of.

MayBee70 Sat 08-Oct-22 09:57:59

So we’re now supposed to rejoice in the fact that an MP has been immediately suspended for inappropriate behaviour instead of having a PM that protects them regardless of what they do as long as they support their leadership? It just goes to show how low our expectation now are after 12 years of this government.

This was mentioned in the BBC news this morning, Mr Burns has had the party whip removed and been sacked from his job due to inappropriate behaviour at the Conservative Party Conference earlier this week

Good that the PM has acted so quickly,

As for Ms.Truss having an affair years ago, we are not party to why it happened nor do we need to know. As long as it doesn’t effect her ability to do her job it really is nobody’s business other than those involved.

Ladyripple wasn't, by any dictionary definition, being rude with her initial comment. It might have been tediously repetitive to some, but definitely not 'rude'. Neither was her second comment...
