We can no longer afford the Tories

The BoE has had to step in again to prop up the U.K. economy, because the markets simply do not believe that Kwarteng or Truss know what they are doing. I suspect too, that the OBR report is showing an unfounded gap between spending and resources.

An damning article in Bloomsbury traces the UK’s decline from the time of Brexit to now and it makes for alarming reading.

We can no longer afford Brexit either.

Unless we have a competent government that stops this decline our future is looking bleak indeed.

No one has mentioned the £5 million + per day, that it's costing to accommodate asylum seekers in hotels.

Because it’s irrelevant.

Although we do know that the vast majority of these asylum seekers would be given leave to remain if their applications were processed. The unreasonable delay in considering their applications is thew cause of the excess cost, that and the fact that they are forbidden from working - nonsense when so many are keen to work and have many skills we need.

Officials in Downing Street are working on a U-turn on Liz Truss's tax plans, but no decisions will be made before Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng gets back from the IMF in Washington

I wonder where Kitty Donaldson gets her information from.

As this is identical to her Twitter post.

Behind these figures are countless human tragedies. In every corner of the country people are frightened, suffering and waiting in pain because our NHS can no longer cope.

This Conservative government has brought the NHS to its knees. It cannot go on.

Actually Bloomberg have done some excellent (if very depressing) articles lately.

Article in the Conservative Home suggesting that Mordant and Sunak could somehow be appointed, save having to go through another election. Whichever way you look at it, this cannot be allowed to continue. Truss et al have driven the country off a cliff all we can hope for is to somehow cushion the landing.

That is totally undemocratic. Maybe we should just let the deputy PM take over ( oh, hang on a minute confused)?

We're expecting to hear from Kwarteng in the next half hour or so.

As an aside

Insider trading?

According to last month's Private Eye
@KwasiKwarteng
has been working for Odey's hedge fund on the side as a paid 'political advisor' at £20k a month since he was elected as an MP in 2010.

It took 10 days to do a u-turn, plenty of time for tory friends and donors to make billions shorting the pound. Such patriotism.

She’s also trashed the environment and renewable energy, banning farmers from solar panels on their land! Giving licences for fracking (which even the fracking companies say is not viable) More drilling in the North Sea

The Conservative party cannot be got rid of until they choose to hold general election the latest date this can be is January 2025.
So let's just hope they manage to sort everything out little the average person can do about the facts.
I may be wrong but I don't think there is anyway they can be just removed regardless of public opinion.

They have no intention of sorting things out ~ and wouldn’t know how if they did!

Of course they can rosie. Whatever makes you think they can't?

Are you a paid up Conservate member by any chance?

DaisyAnne Thu 13-Oct-22 14:33:18

Sorry Conservative member

Dija Thu 13-Oct-22 15:42:24

Shocking bunch of total incompetents Trashing the U.K. and everyone’s livelihoods Will never vote Torie again

rosie1959 Thu 13-Oct-22 15:44:17

No DaisyAnne I am not I was just stating the obvious
If they don't sort things out one way or another we are probably in the sxxt and how deep is the bigger question
It was just an observation I am not so intently political as some I have a mild interest.
Yes I have always voted Conservative but would change my vote if another party offered a better alternative
Labour have overtaken the present government but is this because their policies will work or just because the tories are so bad at the moment

Katie59 Thu 13-Oct-22 15:48:25

The Tories can choose another leader every month if they wish only Tory MPs can force a GE by rebelling, turkeys don’t vote for Christmas nor will they.

Looked at pension statement today, got a shock, first time in ages it's gone down, money has gone out of it.This is so scary.

They are already rebelling Katie59, talking to Labour about voting the government down on various issues. I think there will come a point where some Tory MPs will join a vote of no confidence - it will protect their reputations in their own constituencies if they do so. They are going to lose the election now, so they have nothing to lose by doing that.

Daisymae Thu 13-Oct-22 16:52:54

They have been/are recklessly foolhardy. I really think that they should be brought to account. Not as if they were not warned about the consequences of their actions. I also think that the allegations in Private Eye about Kwarteng's £20K a month for political advice warrants further investigation.

People will complain whoever is in government....

Theodbird I have never complained about the SNP or Nicola Sturgeon. I'm not saying they are perfect.

marmajam Thu 13-Oct-22 17:59:22

OMG . Unbelievable that Mail and Express readers are still coming out with stupid right wing, anti Corbyn remarks. The poison put out at that time still oozes out against this gentle man.

I cashed one of mine end of August I didn’t fancy Trusses policies it hadn’t gained in the last year, probably spend it on the house, havn’t decided yet.

madeleine45 Thu 13-Oct-22 18:12:07

Couldnt you bash their heads together? To exchange a lying cheating pm for incompetent pm and chancellor. You didnt think it could get worse than Boris but here we are!! I am glad I never voted for them, not that that helps much at the moment. As for making jam or having an allotment , there will be a lot of people doing the same , and glad to do so.

Coco51 Thu 13-Oct-22 19:27:46

Egged on by the core of the Labour Party - he was sabotaged from within!

Lupin Thu 13-Oct-22 19:41:40

I can barely listen to the news. All this chaos has been predicted ahead of it happening. Brexit woes have been hidden under other events. Why! oh Why! did the majority go for it. Why! oh Why! did Liz Truss get voted in. I hold my head in my hands. If a fool like me can see it coming, then I despair. Rishi Sunak warned us. For God's sake Tories put him in charge.

MayBee70 Thu 13-Oct-22 19:48:13

I seem to recall several of us Labour voters saying that we would prefer to have a Labour government but, given that there was no chance of an election we would, for the sake of the country, want Sunak to be PM.
